@@SUBTUBESCENT That is your opinion.personally i pissing loved it. A truly great film that did not let me down. The sense of dread stayed with me for a couple of days. One of the most unsettling and anxiety inducing films I have seen.
@@Frellyouall I’d probably go a mark or two lower for each section. But your score trajectory is spot on. Even although I didn’t love the ending, it made sense who the killer was.
Oh, I remember the Satanic panic very well as an 80's kid. Also included for censorship by the religious right: Dungeons & Dragons, video games, and the A-Team (so much violence, think of the children!!). I am looking forward to seeing MaXXXine 😈
This would double feature very well with Censor. That was one of the first things I thought of. (the actual first was how much it reminded me of the look and feel of Body Double)
Maybe for the first time, I have to disagree with the good mister Kermode here. This was the weakest of the three by quite a margin for me. Very flat characters, wasted setup and a cartoonish final act that had me rolling my eyes. Mia Goth was barely utilised in this either, save for that opening scene where she proves her acting ability. A real disappointment for me, which is a shame.
The tongue-in-cheekness of the Psycho scene, with the allussions to one person dressing up as an old lady and killing people was brilliant. I really liked X (a lot more than I thought I would), adored Pearl, amd I really liked Maxxxine. It's the weakest of the trilogy, but the trilogy really works well as a comment on Hollywood, on morality, sexuality and religion, and on how far people are willing to go to get out of their humdrum (and sometimes abusive) lives. The nod to the fate of Pearl's abusive mother was a nice little mirror image as well. I really think this is the perfect horror trilogy!
Loved Goth and the set up of MaXXXine. I thought the ending was slightly lackluster however. But overall enjoyed it, I'd give it somewhere between 7-8/10.
Loved it. Not perfect. I feel it could have been 90 mins, and a nice homage to 80's slashers and their length. But what a fantastic trilogy from Goth and West. Great stuff.
This film was so close to being perfect but unfortunately fell flat in the third act. For me it was so obvious who the killer was from the start, a missed opportunity. I wish they had more fun and ran with the idea that Maxxine knew who the killer was. The third act could have been her, the agent and the bodyguard on the hunt for the killer. Still fun though and a good time!
I’ve just got back from seeing this and thought it was fantastic, great 80’s aesthetic and soundtrack, some good sick laughs and Mia Goth owned it, I’m an 80’s kid and if you are too you’ll love it, highly recommended 👍🏻
I've been having weird Mandela effect issues around this film. I don't know whether I dreamed it, or am just going mad, but I could swear I saw a bunch of reviews for it some time last year. Not PRE-views, RE-views. Been a while since I looked forward to a sequel after watching the prequel of the original... .
I just saw Maxxine, not seen the other two but know the storyline. But there are small flashbacks in Maxxxine which explains what previously happened to her and I really enjoyed it! I plan to watch the other two.
An uninvolving but good looking film.Could of done without the cardboard villain of Kevin Bacon. Bits of it reminded me of the giallo movies of the 70s. 7/10.
I’m so happy to hear you enjoyed the movie! I trust your opinion over many others on here. Seeing it today and was worried but now I’m very excited again!
Just out. I felt it was really rushed and amateurish, silly and fairly bland compared to the others in the series. Goth I felt really phoned it in and went from badass to doe eyed bit part player in a movie named after her role. Wore its inspirations on its sleeve far too heavily, psycho as mentioned but manhunt computer games, Tracy Lorde, video nasties, blah blah blah. The Satanist Christian terror alliance came off as totally out of left field and society needs Chrisian nutballs being taken down a peg or two. I also nearly fell asleep, and pearl I thought was really good.
Great cinematography, poor film. Psycho II was an excellent sequel and this film just made me wish I was watching something as good. This whole trilogy has been mediocre
@@LookatmeimSandraDee It is suberb fun indeed, but it's also an interesting character study and a scathing parody of the world of entertainment. In fact it's as brutal and politicaly acute as Starship Trooper and Robocop.
