Too few jokes? Whether you found the gags funny or not you cannot possibly say that there are not enough of them. I have a feeling most of the jokes flew over your head.
One of the few times that I entirely disagree with Kermode. I was bored out of my skull and literally, literally feel asleep for a good ten minutes. There's always been a certain naivety and naffness to the Aardman animated comedies but the stop-motion style and fantastic one-liners generally win me over. Not so here. Pathetic story, too few jokes, uninspired characters and generally weak everything If "style over substance" is to mean anything, it has to apply to every movie, including this one
Yes, sorry, let me clarify: Too few FUNNY jokes. And that was probably due to the inexhaustible lameness of the plot. A weak story isn't going to burst forth a fountain of witty jokes, because there's very little to work with. (Oh, and stick your insulting "I have a feeling most of the jokes flew over your head" up your jacksie, you dirty midden.) Again, ultimately, I think my "style over substance" observation is very apt in describing this film. You and Kermode are of course free to disagree.
