I was casually searching around for acoustic songs to play along with my bass guitar. The moment Knopfler started signing I was left speechless and unable to move by the subtlety, sensitivity and sincere simplicity of this song. Timeless.
Well, I have just fallen in love with 'Ragpicker's Dream'. I've ordered that and 'Live at the BBC' from Amazon. I'm working my way through MK's body of work. I'm a total fool. I only discovered him eight or nine months ago. Mea culpa, Mark. You're the best.
Superb song. Another example of MK the master songwriter creating the perfect mood and haunting music for the lyrics. I think we can all relate to the passing of time and reflecting on changes or loss from an earlier phase of ones life. For me personally about a girl I loved deeply that needed to spread her wings and fly somewhere else. Took decisions there for reasons other than love and ended up marrying someone for the wrong reasons. Finally made peace with the fact - accept you cant legislate for other peoples decisions and what will influence them and just do the best you can and accept destiny.
Even the titles he comes up with for his songs are amazing. Can't wait to see my musical idol Mark Knopfler for the first time in my life this coming September.
