mr. mark knopfler is a guitar god....really hats off to him....i just wish wid my whole of heart that may he always shine like that n live a long...all hail to mark
great great, i can't get enough of it. I think we don;t get such great guitarplayer anymore. Nowadays the show and look counts, but music.. Mark is one of the best examples of great music without show.
Bought their first album in 78.....Saw them live in Melbourne in 82 and the Brothers in Arms Tour of 86 Which i attended a few times... Saw MK receive a standing ovation at the Melbourne Tennis Centre in 2004........ His fingers defied gravity and his music from "Local Hero" was beautiful.
Absolutely amazing!!! I saw it in Poland in May 2005 and I still cannot forget it. That red Fender in his magic hands. Real masterpiece. Thanks for posting it, my favourite guitarist ever
The man is amazing. I believe he was still recovering from a motorcycle accident when he performed in '05. One of the best guitar players ever. Top 10 for sure.
I love the look on his face as he listens through the headphones and hears something he liked or a mistake everyone missed at 4:35. How awesome this is as he just keeps getting better.
I agree, Mark may look his age (60 this year!) but he plays better each year and with each tour. Going to be a sad time when he does finally call it a day, but he will leave a huge legacy of timeless music. He is one of the finest, if not the finest guitarists of our generation.
This man, his music, and that dam fine guitar style, are effectivly the soundtrack to the best monets of my life so far. Cannot wait to see him next year in London. I only wish the younger generation that im in, would appreciate the genius of his songwriting and skill, and not just call it 'old dads music'

Geeze people....58 is hardly OLD. You all are aware that we can easily live to be a century? When I was younger, that age "looked" old. Not so now. I look and feel great, thank you very much, and I'm 56. If anything, Mark is more mellow and beautiful than ever. Much comfort comes with time...a wonderful thing!
Time will bring down everything ultimately...But even though a little of spring still clings (somehow desperately) to these golden fingers..This will be remembered in our frozen hearts when everything else is forgotten...sigh
Its amazing that a song about SULTANS OF SWING.. who are some cool cats, WHO JUST DIG ROCK AND ROLL, have to take hits from someone who cant even imagine writing a song with this depth and longevity. WHO cares if Mark does not do visuals! THIS SONG is all about being COOL, which does not require dancing for others to see.
Mark will play in Atlanta, GA on July 29, 2008. What a thrill. I hope he makes it through his tour, he'll play EVERYWHERE! Russia, Australia, North Carolina, just to name a few. Turkey, some Asia, his official site has the schedule so far confirmed.

So what if he's old what an ignorant! that has nothing to do , he's a legend he's got great songs and the most important this great solo that will aways be a classic
still goin strong!!!!! I'd like to see a rapper try n do a concert in his 70s or whatever. LOL Fail The 70s and 80s were the greatest for rock, the 90s for dance and today for trance. Mark will be my fav and this song is on my top 10 favs list
True - i think they perform it out of duty sometimes, but other times if you`re feeling the vibe, old worn songs are cool. And they don`t get cooler than Sultans! Mark looks disinterested at times, but then the playing is exceptional.
guys, MK is great. This is a relaxed version of Sultans, showing MK not taking himself too seriously. He accepts being older, is nevertheless still unique with his finger picking and, most of all, he has no need for demonstrating anything to anybody
Great of course, but I think he just still play this song for us, he doesn't get anything out from this at all. The energy is gone if you compare this with the Straits era. And I think he really needed a break from this song during the Emmylou Harris tour, because he looked a bit happier during this tour, even if the solos are far better here. :) :)
This is a perfect example of how rock is not about pretending, modeling or trying to act "cool". It's about great music, and THIS is a great song performed bya one of my favorite artist. If you wanna see a performer screaming jumping and fooling around and pretending, go listen to Camp Rock or Hanna Motana, don't wase your time here.
