This dude needs to narrate books. Imagine him doing a Stephen King novel, or some crime noir.

I turned some friends at work on to Mad season. One of my favorite albums of all time. If I had to narrow down and name my favorite on the album it would probably be Above but, they are all stellar songs

This, to me, is one of the most fascinating insights into the minds of two musical geniuses, two of the greatest losses to the musical world at large, EVER. To just be able to create a hit song off the top of your head--one with fascinating, deep, meaningful lyrics, is something I'll never be able to grasp. But that's part of what made Layne...Layne. 💓❤️‍🔥💘💔

Great story about great music. Congrats to all for the Mad Season material. It is altruistic, real, and eternal. An impulsive, non industry, heartfelt gift from some heavies. Sing your heart out with Layne up there, Mark. Can't wait to hear it.

I always thought mad season’s Above summed up the grunge era. Yet Grunge bands didn’t fizzle in the mid to late 90s. They kept on putting out meaningful music. Had Cobain not died Grunge could have gone the distance in the 90s.

Good stuff. As you can imagine, there's lots of details we can explore. I consider the grunge evolved, and it can be fair and accurate for either- the description that grunge died or that the style is still happening. But if it is still happening or "not" mostly obscure, then I'd consider the evolution still maintains enough of the essence and heart of the style. This can be tricky because we can understand some evolutions just lead to something different, where it could make sense to describe the style as something new or whatever, but not grunge. There's a bunch of bands we could mention that may fit the category of evolved grunge, even if other elements of style are involved or became the primary part. Either way, we sure were fortunate to have so many amazing musicians, bands and music.

In some ways it did. At the tail end you had Staind and Audioslave. It’s just people lost interest in it. It wasn’t new and exciting anymore.

Layne didn't have the gumption that it took to survive. Mark did. Simple as that. Layne was a great guy, and super talented, but deep down, he was weak. That weakness eventually undid him.
