First there was anticipation from seeing the Mic. Thought video might've been shot when he lived but then I realized that's not gonna happen. So yeah, emotional.
@Jacob Joyett-Mackie but linkin park is not the band who can replace the guy who was more than their brother with any idiot if they really want to continue then it might be under new name with same guys and they can carry on with new vocalist in the new band with new name which will help in preserving chester legacy
Thanks to this band for giving Chester a final recording like this. He went out with a bang with this. I'm honestly relieved that Chester was able to get this out before he left. We miss and love him. Thanks again guys.
Ashok Singh Chauhan as most of the Musical greats Hendrix became music Cornell became music and so did Chester and many of the other greats we have lost
@Ø Coming from someone that has TDWP's logo as a profile pic and Underoath's logo as a profile name, both bands whose lyrics often lean towards depression and what it does to you, that was one of the dumbest comments I have ever read
@Ø You're one of the people who think that depression is not really that harmful, that it can be easily driven away just by thinking positively and doing some happy shit. But no. Mental illnesses can be as bad as some serious physical wounds. I personally never suffered with depression, but I realise that it is not something that can be easily dealt with.
@@jespertin691 right they are half this song. People need to give credit. Trivium doesn't suck at all. I personally don't say I'm a fan but I respect them hella for the work they've done and this song especially.
@sonderweg I am fully aware it's an American calendar. The first visual we get of the calendar is at 2:00 which is in fact showing a black x on a Thursday when the rest are marked in red. However, when the calendar appears again at 2:30 we see the 20th is also in black, along with other days. Why are some red and others black?
On Howard Stern, Mike Shenoda said Chester always preferred the heavier sound.. Imagine the absolute majesty that would’ve come from his own mind!! It keeps me up at night sometimes!! 💔
@@hayden2384 but why he didn't a side solo project then? with Morton. or someone else? or a band? i know that grey was his old band but othe other one band ( dead by sunrise) i do not know if he could put his ideas musically
@@juncodelrio15 I can tell English isn’t your first language.. That’s okay. You did a decent job.. Chester was aggressively bound by contractual agreements.. His life wasn’t his, nor ours. It was theirs… Big money has a way of speaking, you and I and the rest of us will never understand.. I don’t like it anymore than you do..
I know everyone's here for Chester but Alex Bent of Trivium on drums deserves some recognition. He probably one-taked the song in studio like he does with a lot of Trivium songs.
The mic stand, the calendar, there’s a lot message in this video. That guy, seems like fighting with mysterious/invisible guy. The truth? He’s fighting himself and lost, but in the end, he’s finally free. RIP Chester. Thanks Mark Morton for releasing this masterpiece.
@@osiah0949 This is not true. The only unforgivable sin is blaspheming the Holy Spirit. Suicide isn't innocent by any means, but absolutely nowhere in scripture does it say that it's an automatic sentence to hell.
@@jaxxchaos4779 I can do without Chester to be honest. Alex and Paolo are already in a supergroup with Matt Heafy who makes for a better vocalist then Chester for this kind of music. I just don't see Chester being a better fit for bands like Trivium or Lamb of God

When I read "Became the end for both of us" I think of Chester and Chris. I don't know if this was written by Chester after Chris' suicide but if it was that's even more sad
@@ElegantJames, if you ever look deep into songs you can see the pain and depression of the writer and within is the possible coming of their passing. There's always a connection to their fate pretold, but no one really pays attention to the songs and realize that they have been writing their suicide notes or just throwing caution that their death is coming.
It took me a year to find the courage to listen Chester's voice, and watch "Linkin Park & Friends Celebrate Life in Honor of Chester Bennington" But it took me another year to find the courage to listen the songs released after his death. This one, the Dray Daze ones... And it still feels painful (and God thoses videos don"t help with the mic, the text "Are you still there ? Of course"). I am a grown man but when I hear his voice, I'm this angry, sad teen. Linkin Park saved my life when I was younger. I wish we could saved him in return. (PS: Hope my English wasn't so poor)
the first time i heard this song, when this video was released, at the beginning, at the "cross of the days gone" i was like awwwww chester, but then when he screamed the "gone by", i started crying and couldnt stop until the song was over. I had already accepted i would never listen to his voice in anything that i hadnt heard before, because, thats whats left for us. This song brought him back to life for 4 mins and 37 seconds to me. And it was the best thing ever
i still have yet to watch "Linkin Park & Friends Celebrate Life in Honor of Chester Bennington". i still cant bring myself to watch the official video for "One More Light" again. i watched it after he passed, but i just cant bring myself to do it again... i want to so badly...
I don't know if someone actually catches the whole symbolism in this thing. The guy fighting alone it's kinda a reference to Fight Club. You know, Jack fighting with Tyler Durden, his other personality. The security guy can represent the people that surrounds you but doesn't actually see what's going on with you. Towards the end of the song, our hero gets destroyed but still we don't know what it is, until his "inner demon" comes out of the car trunk gloryfing himself with his victory. At the very final you see the "bad guy", pointing him at the security guy like "you should have seen this, you're the one to blame here, you could have helped him." When you realize that this is exactly what happened to Chester then you figure out, that's why the mic is standing alone. They could have use live footage, hell, even a hologram. Instead of that, this video teachs you a lesson: If someone needs help, don't be a dick and go talk to him. We're not alone.
That's exactly what I was thinking. He's fighting this seemingly invisible force but the security guy isn't even looking. The protagonist clearly sees it and is putting up a fight but we see nothing until it's too late.
Then who is the security guard... probable some of the management team on LP? You know... those who now are so full of words and emotions but they were too much busy filling their bank accounts?
I love all three grew up with linkin park at 5 then lamb of god at 7 trivium at 14 saw the live 2016 then slayer lamb of god athrax behemoth testAmen Chester's voice with live on forever no matter what this was an amazing collaboration with all three
I like the empty mic stand, kinda tasteful way of addressing Chester. He's sure as hell present in this song, but you ain't gonna see him in the video. RIP Dude :(
I was fanboying so hard when I saw the both of them jamming right next to Mark, it sure took me a while to recognize them lol! Personally speaking their appearances in the video made it that much more memorable for me just because I know their backgrounds as musicians :))
My interpretation of this video: The protagonist fighting against something he does not see and is stronger than him = Chester struggling against depression and his inner demons. The security manager, totally distracted, does not realize what is happening in the parking lot. = All the people near Chester who did not realize what he was going through. The microphone = As a sign of respect to Chester, remembering his absence and honoring his memory. The calendar, in the month of July, and the security marking the day 23 = Three days after the death of Chester. Finally, the death of the protagonist after fighting and falling defeated against that invisible enemy, but leaving the trunk again, as having risen or as having been reborn, is seen renewed. = I think this part, tries to give to understand that Chester somehow could be reborn and be at peace, not in this physical world, but his essence, his spirit, leaving behind the pain. Brutal song and video. I loved it, great work by Mark, Chester and the rest of the band.
Who ever wrote the lyrics to this song knew exactly about the struggle with addiction. I couldn't understand why a man who had everything would commit suicide. But these lyrics and going through my own addiction witnessing death of friends from overdose. This battle is real.
It was likely Mark. He has been clean for a couple years now. Hopefully it continues. I'm not much of a lamb of God fan but addiction is a c*nt and nobody deserves to go through it.
Think about it this way. Maybe we helped him live longer than if he never made it big with Linkin Park and was left alone and unsupported more. It's thanks to his friends and family and fans that he made it as long as he did. If it weren't for all that, maybe he'd have left sooner.
"The track, featuring Bennington's lead vocals, debuts on Hard Rock Digital Song Sales. Longtime Lamb of God and Burn the Priest guitarist Mark Morton strikes out on his own with "Cross Off," which becomes his first Billboard-charting song as a solo artist, bowing at No. 18 on the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart dated Jan. 19. "Cross Off" debuts with the assistance of a high-profile guest: late Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington, who recorded his vocals for the track in April 2017, three months before his July 20, 2017, death." There you have it :) @@seanwilson531
It's bad enough someone pointed out the calendar was on July (which I didn't notice the first time I watched this,) but now you're pointing out that it symbolizes the actual day he committed suicide?? That's even more emotional. RIP, Chester. :(
It's been 4 years when I was listening this song upon release and man, Chester should had done a looooot of Metalcore, he just fits. Trivium + Lamb Of God + Linkin Park, quite the dream team.

@@rodrigoc1820 sorry if I responded too stupid. Yes chester is a legend and has lot of good music, I listen to him . And yes depression sucks. Just dieing to suicide is not that ,,legendary". Not his death made him a legend, the music did. I know he has to do it because he has lot of pains, . Sorry for being too absurd. Peace✌️
Chester would have been 43 today. We lost a brilliant vocalist and lyricist the day he was taken from us. So glad to hear some of his posthumous work. This is incredible!
Thanks for not being cowards and releasing this. So much music has been denied to fans because of passing of an artist (prince comes to mind. Apparently he left this world with literally albums worth of material). Glad to see him being celebrated instead of shelved.
Sometimes it just comes down to who owns the royalties of the artist or their work upon their passing. Most artists will have a large amount of unrealeased music that was shelved for business or personal reasons. Sometimes it's too raw or unstructured and whoever has the controlling stake makes that decision. So even if there is music that they've recorded with the intention of seeing the light of day the legal process to attain them could take years depending on the parties involved
@@patrickrussell6558 apparently in his house. Someone once said there was a wall of discs, spine out, just labelled with dates. When they asked what was on them, songs or ideas, they were told they were albums.
Lloyd Pittonet this could come across as Mark Morton profiting off Chester’s death. He could also have not gotten a blessing from Linkin Park or Chester’s family,or he could’ve released it without knowing for sure whether Chester wanted it released or not. I can understand why people would be hesitant to release music postmortem. Hell,Mike Shinoda has faced that criticism about it and Post Traumatic doesn’t even feature anything Chester worked on. It’s not an easy decision to make. In most cases I think it’s “I’d rather be safe than sorry” than being a coward about it. In this case, since Mark Morton was in the studio with Chester and knew he was serious about the song and loved it (paraphrasing his words),I think he made a well thought out and good choice here.
Chester didn't save anyone's life. Every song he wrote with Linkin Park was his attempt to keep from taking his own life. And sadly, it wasn't enough. Songs of depression aren't life savers; they're a cry for help.
@@paulunknown3149 wtf are you smoking ? are every LP song's depressing?you haven't really listened linkin park songs mate .. LP's songs have helped me get through some very hard times..
Are you fucking kidding me.......? Metal has ALWAYS been emotional and tear jerking. I suggest digging into it sir. Beyond the nostalgia of Chesters voice. Metal IS emotion personified
Idk if you have ever listened to Dead by Sunrise, if not you should. I never knew Chester had another band until after he was gone. It's like mix of LP and Depeche Mode. His singing is beautiful on that album
The genuinely shocking part about the entire video clip [aside from the empty microphone stand which serves as a tribute to the late singer] is the battle the main character is having with his inner demons or his handlers when not even the security guards are taking any notice of his struggle. The character's last resort is to crash his head against the car window, with which he succumbs to his injuries. The "stunt double" in white is the victory of his inner demons. Honestly, that was a shocking tribute to the always remembered singer Chester Bennington.
@@Nindroidgamer110 What do you mean? Do you have proof that heaven exists? Because no one has been able to prove any religion so far and there are over 3000 of them so good luck with that.
I agree. There's a song by PRO ERA called Like Water which has a scene where Capital STEEZ(who died before the video was shot) is rapping and it shows an empty microphone with his friends looking at it as if he was standing infront of it while rapping his part. You should give it a listen.
@@sirdorkster Homie did you even read the article? To quote it: He added that the potential line-up change wouldn’t be “for the sake of replacing” Bennington, as he “wouldn’t wanna ever feel like we were replacing Chester”.
Ditto :'( No one will EVER be able to replace Chester, just like no one could ever replace Beethoven. Chester is a legend. What a great way to honor him to allow that empty mic. RESPECT
Linkin Park is one of my favorite bands and Chester one of my favorite vocalists, but this song makes me wonder what kind of amazing music he could've been a part of in a metal band like Lamb of God
LP did this type of music, not enough though, QWERTY is a good example. There should not be nu, heavy or speed metal - just metal and Chester singing it, he was a label&genre himself.
Haven't heard this track for a few years. It's much better than I remembered it being, exceptional really. This is a collaboration that shouldn't work on paper, but it sounds incredible in practice. Would have loved to hear them make more music together, but it wasn't meant to be. Chester's powerful voice always complemented the heavier guitar tone so well.
I never met him but I can read his energy and it was very kind and selfless. Even though his soul was in torment most of his life, he seemed like he was one of the purist of human beings to walk this earth.
I miss you Chester.. I'm fighting the same battle rn and am also losing. But til the end, whenever that is, I will always hold a sacred place in my heart for Chester. He helped so, so many people, but everyone assumed that because he was rich and famous he wasnt hurting inside too. And thus, although he had so many fans, in truth he died alone. Love you Chester. I hope with all my heart, whether there is an afterlife or not, that you are finally at peace. And if there is an afterlife, I hope when I go there too I can give you a hug.
I remember the first time I heard this on the radio, it blew my mind how well he could flow his voice with not only LP music but metal music as well. Been in love with this song ever since, RIP Chester, a true talent gone to soon.
How incredible is the lineup for this song! Chester Bennington- one of the greatest vocalist's of all time Mark Morton- an all time guitarist Alex Bent- probably the best drummer in metal right now Paulo Greggoletto- an incredible bassist Representing Linkin Park, Lamb of God and Trivium Three incredible bands
I think now on days we have a lot of good drummers in the metal scene as Elliot Hoffman, Steve Judd, Navine Koperweis, Jay Postones... All of them with their own and particular style.
I know everyone is saying nice thoughtful things about Chester, I agree he's still with us in music but DAMNNN it truly sucks seeing that mic with no Chester. Much respect to Mark Morton and all the others that made this video in a way it showcases talent and respect .
