Oscar-nominated actor Mark Ruffalo, who stars in the film "Foxcatcher," talks to Anthony Mason about his career, his childhood, and the loss of his brother. Anthony Mason reports.
Nope, he wasn't working steadily until he landed a role in You Can Count on Me (2000). Before that, he was bartending to support his theatre career while going for auditions of which he got rejected countless times, except for a few small roles in movies nobody had ever heard of. Even after the success of You Can Count on Me at Sundance, he still went back bartending for a short time. (Huge Ruffalo fan, btw)
Damn, at the end when he says "Say thank you to him" I almost teared up. You can tell by his face and the nervous scratching head tick that he was really holding the tears back.
That's what I think makes Ruffalo the perfect Hulk. He's been though the struggles of becoming ill and losing his brother and I think he channels this pain and anger into his role as the Hulk.
Ever since I saw him in 13 going 30 and nagged my mom about it every time it was on TV, I knew we'd see a lot more of him. Such an inspirational story. One of our generation's greatest talents.
Great interview. It moved me to tears. I have always admire him. He's a very talented, gifted actor who knows how to choose his roles. He seems to be a very noble guy, down to earth with a fanfastic sense of humor. I just love him.
noticed him the first time in "the kids were alright" and instantly hooked. one of those actors you immediately checking on google after watching a movie
Thelegend27 No Losers here! My guess here is , you are responding to my story about meeting Mark and finding out his got testicles the size of peas. My opinion hasn't changed about this guy! He's got no backbone, like a lot of his fellow contemporaries!
Or they r just not a fan of that actor sad how people want everyone to like the same thing i mean wow I'm sure their r actors out their you guys don't like Jesus sounds so damn stupid they have no soul just because they don't like that actor wow what's wrong with people like you just wow
From a guy who survived Brain Cancer and who was left heartbroken when his brother got murdered back in 2008. His such a great actor. Loved him since 13 Going On 30.
There are actors who announce they're retiring and then there are people like Mark Ruffalo. I'm thankful that he decided to stick with acting despite everything, especially because of films like The Normal Heart and Spotlight. This reminds me, I haven't seen Infinitely Polar Bear yet.
i grew up on him in 13 going on 30 and had no idea he was struggling so bad both personally and professionally, breaks my heart. who would have figured only now he will get the recognition he deserves, back than i thought he was as big as jennifer garner.. i seriously wish him the best, he seems so nice.
Loved Mark Ruffalo since 2004. 13 Going On 30 was the one to introduce me to Mark. His such a versatile actor. He can play the romantic lead, the laidback dude, thrillers I could go on. His a fantastic actor.
As an actor he was truly blessed to get that many auditions. Especially if he was SAG early on. Most actors are lucky to get a few auditions a month. You have to have a really good agent to get you out that much. Actors that audition that much are going to 2-3 auditions a day. Those are generally the working actors already in the game. He must have have a good agent. LOL
Man... now i'm an even bigger fan than before. Onward brother! Keep us entertained. Oh and thanks again for doing such a good job as Dave Schultz in "Foxcatcher".
God bless Mr. Ruffalo for having the courage to be part of a story that is so raw for him. He set a beautiful example for his kids. I like thinking he and Mark Schultz had each other to talk to
I'm so glad he's overcome so much but has stuck to his guns. Such a talented and versatile actor. His role in Zodiac was my personal favourite. Mostly because he played a detective and he sort of reminds me of a young Columbo. Haha it was somehow very fitting.
I had hear about his back story. I am so glad that he has recovered to the best of his ability and is doing well. It is so sad about his brother. From G-d we all come and to G-d we all must return.
I'm only here cuz I'm started watching and binging MCU movies, and I admired his acting prowess as Dr. Bruce Banner (and can also relate to his character being a dork😅) . Didn't know he had it rough. He's such a genuine and kind person. I'm happy for him. Such an inspiration.
He played the Hulk because actors need money so he can continue working in great indie films like You can count on me, Eternal Sunshine, The kids are alright and so on.
when i watch mr ruffalo i have a hard time remembering that the character is not real how fabulous for another handsome and hardworking craftsman to shine
That's where I first discovered him too. He was compared to a young Marlon Brando. He's such a lovely guy and a genuine human being! If I could find someone like him, I'd bloody marry him in a heartbeat!! Lol.
Did mark ruffalo ever play a really bad guy ? would be interesting to see such a mellow guy play a evil character. p.s. fascinating actor can't wait to see what roles he's going to play next
Pram De Rooy I've heard he's going to do the Columbo reboot. Which would be great, because as much as I dislike remakes and reboots, he is PERFECT for that role. No one else has the same distracted, rumpled charm as Peter Falk. I hope it's happening, because it will be awesome.
Pram De Rooy The closest he's come to evil is playing guys who were not fundamentally bad, but who did bad things--guy who sleeps with his best friend's wife ("We Don't Live Here Anymore"), guy who doesn't come forward after a hit-and-run ("Reservation Road"), guy who goes way overboard getting revenge on people who wronged his family ("Now You See Me"). But I agree that seeing him play a truly dark, evil character would be fascinating. And, I am big enough to admit this, also really hot.
there's this thing about him that draws me to him.I'm so attracted to him but for some reason idek. yeah he's handsome and all but i think it's not just that
Wow I had no idea he had a tumor and his brother got shot....that's so sad, he seems really cool and I love him in 13 going on 30. Think we all fell in love a little bit with him in that movie (:
I want to write something for him. I LOVE THIS GUY. Love Actors Studio. What a great platform to really see who is in the physical body, beneath the skin. THANK YOU JAMES LIPTON. The best interviewer I know. May you be doing your magic work in heaven.
Great actor. Enjoyed his performance in "13 Going On 30" & "Just Like Heaven". Best part is I never thought that one day that he become The Incredible Hulk....but guess what, he did! :D
Mark Ruffalo's role in "Foxcatcher" is absolutely fenomenal. Seing a little part in the movie were he comes in, was the thing that actually move me to watch the movie faster. Great actor :)
I probably have been watching too many interviews with him, but I noticed he smiles when he talks about something sad, but I laugh when I talk about something sad so I have no room to talk lol
