Mark Rylance: „80-90% Of Actors Are Poor!“ 

Well he is a good enough actor to convey the "unaffected" part and fool people and to that extent he must have some talent as an actor to fool people so regularly

Mark Rylance is forcing my body to produce goosebumps. He is the absolute height of ''Bridge of Spies'' movie, movie itself is not so remarkable but Mark's work here is an absolute masterpiece in acting. The film looses a lot in the second part when he is not present on the screen, but the moments and seconds he appears his immense talent completely turns a solid scene to a great one. Just watch his bodily minimalism in the plane scenes and at the bridge, he, as a master at his craft, needs just a little space to make wonders. Spielberg you are a moron if you do not let this master work with you again. He is like a muse for film directors, just as Daniel Day-Lewis is.

No he does not. He is a ham and deliberately portrays himself as diffident. Don't be fooled. At heart, he is very pleased with himself

I remember very well watching him for many years at the globe theatre years ago when he was an actor and the artistic director there. His Shakespeare productions were absolutely spellbinding as were his performances. The actors always mingled with the audience in the intermission no matter how famous they were. He was always so friendly, down to earth, obliging and extremely funny indeed!

All that stuff about him being difficult to work with are rumours. From what I've seen and read, he is perhaps the most down to earth, genuine and kind person ever!

The comedy Rylance got out of Richard 2 is not 'easy' to do. I do not know much of his work, but his R2 struck me as very human. If this is a 'trick' of Rylance's, it's a damned good one. Shakespeare becomes personable in his mouth. He never declaims. He let's us in, doesn't knock us out. So it seems to me.

@@barryschwarz i entirely disagree. I have twice seen people work comedy out of Richard II It is easy to do for the following reason. In the original play, which seems to include Shakspeare's wish to outshine Marlowe's Edward II, which he does in trumps by the way, the homossexuality of the King is discreetly implied but is in the charges levelled by Harry Hereford against the king's advisors nevertheles clear. Since Kenneth Williams and Noel Coward and Quinto Crisp, and Sebastian's friend in Bridehead Revisited and Oscar Wilde and so on, the camp figure has been a standard figure of fun and raiser of laughs in English comedy. Richard II which tentatively deals with the problems of kingship even VERY discreetly a questiioning of the role of monarchy itsself, there is the potential for a modern performance of camping it all up and making fun of the entire play. It is a facile solution to the problem of satsifying punters who are in London for a large part made up of tourists often not native speakers with a relatively low ability so far as the subtleties of a Sahksepeare history play are concerned. Making the King into a bit of a Frankie howard character plus pathos is easy, you just have to put on a n effeminite voice and stress certain lines, separate them a little from the rest so that focus is upon them and you can be sure that a modern audience, generally very challenged by the complexities of for example the political philosophy or metaphysics of the play, can understand and laugh. They are reassured that they "understand" Shakspeapeare.

He is a bit eccentric but does a lot for charities in the UK and abroad. He is Selfless not Selfish in that regard. I would never describe him as being full of his self worth... What has he done that makes you think this?

@@Badtastemamma I cannot forgive him for the amount of unwarranted praise heaped upon him for his perfomance of Richard II which distressed me because as I perceive it, he traduced one of my favourite plays. I love Shakespeare's Richard !! with heart and soul and his dumbing down of that play to get American toruist punters to chortle "let us tell sad stories of the death of kings" chrotle chrotle giggle laugh..For me his persiflage of that paly is as though he had mocked a good friend or family member. So far as what he has done to show he ahs a huge sense of self worth, he has not "done "anything, it is an impression heconveys, a very strong impression. I often observe in apparent modesty in people the greatest arrogance of all. The painter who says "oh its nothign, just a few daubs, haw haw" and behind that self deprecation is a massive self-conceit. This is the impression I gain from listening to Mark Rylance. I also find it more than irritating in a country where millions really are struggling and living in dire conditions of crime squallor and ill health, that he claims that actors are underpaid, without bothering to state how much actors are in fact paid. While we are on the subject, what are Mark Rylance's earnings? It is a pity he wasn't challenged on this. How can he claim that actors are underpaid without stating what they in fact earn? What would one think of a Union leader saying "my members are underpaid" but not revealing how much said Union members are in fact paid?

@@MrYorickJenkins I can vouch for actors not always earning lots especially in the early years of their careers. My daughter in law went to Liverpool Uni with The now very famous Clare Foy. studied Drama/Theatre. Clare made it a lot of the other students struggle and eventually even not working in the industry at all. A lot of actors do other jobs to keep a roof over their heads! I know them so this much is true! Actors very often seem to be full of themselves but inside they are often insecure. Even shy. My granddaughter is training to be an actor and she has a introspective personality. Like I said about Mark Rylance you either love him or hate him. Unfortunately for you he seems to be very favoured by the 'luvvies' and the movie world too. They must see something in him that's unique!
