Mark Waugh century and Dean Jones 79 in partnership for Australia against South Africa in the 2nd Final of the 1993-94 World Series Cup at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). As good as Jones played it was the passing of the baton as Waugh from this moment on became the premier top order ODI batsman for Australia until his retirement.

Dean Jones average of 45 back in the early 90's equates to an average of 60 in today's cricket. He was a sensational ODI cricketer

Dean Jones was a brilliant one day cricketer and cricketer full stop. His mouth got him trouble for what reasons I can't remember now but he is a bit of a forgotten player to many. He was however one of the best we ever produced and was one of the best ODI batsman in the world in his day.

Easily one of the best limited overs cricketers ever Dean Jones, could have easily played the 96 World Cup but still a magnificent career.

Yeah I agree he was probably the best runner between wickets in ODI history his strike rate of mid 70s seems low now but it was considered great back in the day but as great a one day batsmen as Jones was It scares me to think what Vic Richards would average and what strike rate he would have I think he averaged 45 at 90 be 60 to 65 and 115 in today's game

This was Mark Waugh's only one day century (of 18) scored at No 4. 2 of the other 3 of his first 4 were at no 3, his very first while opening, as were his final 14.

The progressive scoreboard at 6.55: Jones made 32 off his next 29 before getting out and Mark Waugh made 58 off his next 48 before getting out. They really lifted the tempo from that point.

The David Boon dismissal was identical to one in an Australia v West Indies match at the MCG during the previous season. On both occasions the ball lollipopped to the fieldsman at backward point, who took a dolly of a catch.

Jones was the best cricketer in the country in 96. Highest av in domestic. He was given one chance before cup list was finalised, selected to play world XI AGAINST Aus @ MCG. Jones hit Waugh(!) for 6 into the southern stand off the penultimate ball of the game to win it and score his 102*! easily better than all the other world bats at the time including his fellow Aussies!. Remember watching while listening to stackpole commentate on radio. He claimed Waugh didnt dart it in but looped it up giving Jones a chance. So Jones made 102 against Aus and still couldnt get picked! Aus lost the world cup. Its odd watching Waugh and Jones bat together, I think they both were constantly trying to kick the other out of the Aus side.

Don't be a fool Brendon. Jones was shite at chasing above par targets, and almost all his hundreds were on flat pitches in big team totals. Mark Waugh made 7 of his 18 ODI tons chasing big targets and was the first to four world cup tons from any country - Jones scored no world cup tons at all in two tournaments when four were scored by his team mates. When Mark made his four world cup tons in two tournaments there were only two others from team mates. Jones's average is bloated by the multitude of not outs in the 50-80 range mopping up targets of 15% or more below par i.e. no genuine pressure.

Why in God's name did people care, or still do care, what Mark Waugh's average was and still is when he constantly did stuff like this when it mattered in the big matches at decisive points in series, both in test and one day cricket? Mark Waugh, like Victor Trumper, proves that raw mean number of runs per dismissal is absolutely meaningless in rating a batsman.
@ucantseeme7477
@ucantseeme7477 Год назад
People bring that in Test matches coz seeing his quality they expected him to have the stats as well an avg of late 40s nobody says that in odis though to my knowledge. In odis he was rated as good as Sachin Lara Anwar
