Sad thing is those "younger" people don't care for the history or even podcasts in general, let alone about F1. They only care about F1 being trending since Netflix's DTS... When another thing comes along, they're all gone.
@@ReBeLhIpI no michael was not on pole in monaco. it's called pole "position" for a reason. he set the fastest lap, but got demoted with a penalty from a previous race he well deserved.
btw Schumacher outqualified Rosberg often in the last season, so Rosberg could outqualify Hamilton, meaning Schumacher could outqualify Hamilton as a 40+ year old
Your best interview to date.... Fantastic how Mark keeps it real and can honestly reflect on how it was to be a racer back when.... Keep up the great work.
I've always admired the non-BS attitude of Mark - he is a class act and deserves a senior role in F1 management to level an honest dose of reality it needs.
@@krishnansen1301 I imagine he refers to before they came to F1 perhaps. Since they were in Renault junior team, they raced together and he kicked Fernando's ass. Same equipment, unlike F1, so more legit
@@indianajons5847 not necessarily more legit. Driving comes down to a lot more than just equipment because it is such a top level sport. It's important that the handling of the car fits the driving style. Just look at Gasly and Albon, do you really think that they became bad drivers when switching to RB and as soon as Gasly is back in the alpha tauri he suddenly gets a podium simply by luck? Both didn't trust their car at RB and it's visible in the lap time. If you are stuck in a spec series then it's quite difficult to change the car to suit your driving style because you can't redesign the car. Also: I don't think both were at their peak in the Renault junior team. It's possible that Alonso just needed longer to mature and develop his driving style. Unfortunately it is impossible to rank drivers consistently because there are way too many factors we can't see. And this doesn't answer the most important question: How important is driving fast compared to being a complete racing driver? Schumacher won 7 titles by working hard and setting new standards. He was also gifted but was he always the best driver during his championship winning seasons? Possibly not, but his work ethic was beyond what anyone else in the grid could do. A similar thing goes for Vettel as Webber points out in this podcast who wasn't necessarily the fastest driver but he was working harder than Webber. So if you are the fastest drivers, are you atuomatically the best driver? For me that's a clear no. Racing drivers have to do more than just drive.
How can you complain about background noise lol race cars firing up, sounds like food is being brought to em. Paints a picture in your head! Love these podcasts without a doubt we want more of these. Also it would’ve been insane to see Webber at Ferrari, he could have done some great things with them I think.
Such a fucking legend I got really emotional in his last race seeing him with his helmet off not giving a fuck! One of the realist drivers that will ever be respect mark
Two drivers I wish had won a world championship, David Coulthard and Mark Webber. Both really nice blokes but they both done ok out of it and they both came out in one piece and doing a good job on the commentary especially David.
I think this is an excellent format for a podcast - using an in-depth long-form interview. Some really great insights you don't get to hear otherwise. Thanks TC!
Well there are such things as omnidirectional microphones. They pick up sound from a broad surrounding area. A cardoid microphone picks up sound mostly from in front. So a directional microphone, pointed away from external noise would be a big improvement.
You sound a bit of a bitch too man. You know there is such thing as constructive criticism? I'm sure the content creator appreciates feedback that can help the channel improve. It was a really good interview, this whole series is coming out great! but there were times i had to rewind a couple times to hear what was said. Nothing wrong with giving that feedback.
I really find difficulty in following Mark's words in many parts of the podcast. The sound at the background really ruins the experience and all the interesting stuff this man has to say. Plz do the rest of them in a closed room or something...
CptGiorgis don’t you think the sounds of goodwood are the perfect backdrop to an interview with a racer? Closed room would remove the atmosphere. Just an opinion
P Moore I agree, but unless you're a native speaker of English or something, there's no way you understand some parts of the video. Of course it's a nice combination, but when I'm listening to such a podcast I want it clear since everything that is said has its meaning. It's not just a quick pitlane interview about tires or strategy that will be forgotten in matter of minutes.
I agree, I have problems relating to my autism that make it difficult for me to hear a voice over that level of background noise. I love the sounds of engines, but I'm trying to listen to Mark. I can hear engines other times.
He's kind of the exception that proves the rule, no? Maybe not the best example from Mark, but schumi got clobbered by Nico in qualifying that year. Michael fucking Schumacher. That's father time.
I also find it strange that he used Monaco as an example. It is the place where Kimi (the oldest guy in the grid) got his only pole during the last years :D
Please try to to the same with Massa, Mika, dc, Rubens, Rosberg, Prost and Villeneuve. Hell you could get any Grand Prix Winner (at least the ones who are still alive) and do that format. And maybe even some of the more important engineers. One day I'd love to hear a bit from the ones like Rory Byrne or Adrian.
I love how much detail Mark goes into about what different drivers bring to the table and how he compares them all as sportspeople first before just focusing in on F1. Great big picture perspective
"I needed some pain relief ... she gave me these tablets called Endone ... I thought to myself 'shit I'm going to keep some of these for when I gotta get back in the car' ... it was a magic medication ... it's a bloody serious potion" - 37:50
He did preface this with saying they were at Goodwood, which...isn't the quietest of places this time of the year, but really, there's only so much you can expect.
I could hear everything pretty well. I heard people having dinner and having coversations around TC and Webber, and I could actually hear some very fucking loud cars, like that F1 V10 for example. So still, great mic's, even for all the excess audio in the background.
It kinda hurts hearing your hero let it all go and not be interested in it all or racing anymore. I’m sure he hasn’t lost all his skills with age like he suggests.
would love a Mark Webber catch up - brutally honest and interesting guy. Also the recording isn't great for listening to on headphones with the background noise
He crashed his way out of the title tbh with Korea, Australia, Valencia etc. Vettel however was unlucky all season with Bahrain, Australia and Korea mechanical problems as was Hamilton in Spain and Australia (Webber crashed into him). If Vettel wasn't the deserving champion that he was, then it was Hamilton who was the next real champion
I see alot of people saying Webber is wrong about pole at 43 because Michael did it. Well it's wrong isn't it, Michael qualified 6th due to 5 place drop from rear ending Bruno Senna, from a total schoolboy error. It totally showed his flaws and his slower reactions due to not being what he was, he'd never have had that crash at his peak. So for me, webber is right. It was a stunner of a lap at Monaco don't get me wrong, but a 2001 Schumacher would have taken pole, and kept pole! So the fact it was taken because of his a mishap at the race before, is highly relevant!! We can't hold back the clock, and Michael was no different.
Hey F1! Can u plx add subtitles? My english is worse and ur audience can not only english. So please add subtitels. I like ur Stuff, and I also want to enjoy this podcast. please please please
This is a brilliant series and am looking forward to more. There was no need to do this one with that level of background noise. It detracted from it - not sure if it was meant to add to it!
Can anybody tell me what happened with that pit lane story at around 40.00? I'm not sure why the light didn't go green or why the team were furious, was it something Webber did? Can't make it out. Thanks.
He has both german and finnish citizenships. My understanding is that during his racing years, Keke was quite harshly ridiculed on the media. He got so annoyed that he decided to make his son german instead.
Yeah Keke Finnish and his mother German but he grew up in Monaco and his father being the stronger parent. Definitely more Finnish but F1 wanted to make him German for political reasons
Yeah, too much background noise, it's almost as loud as your voices if not louder sometimes, trying to set the mic up to reduce the background noises would've been nice.
