And it LITERALLY costs her nothing, nothing that will EVER make ANY difference to her. I heard a story once that made me smile. It was about the Koch brothers. The guy telling it was the doorman/odd jobs guy at the building they lived in. Keep in mind, these guys are billionaires, and the way they got some of it was beyond inhumane. He said he loaded more than one box for them, sometimes large ones, almost every day. For Christmas, for the ENTIRE YEAR'S work he'd done for them, they wrote a CHECK for $50. Beyond reprehensible. Oh, and the doorman said they were almost CONSTANTLY crabbing and yelling at somebody or each other. It is often true that you get what you give. Money, meh, as long as you have enough for normal expenses and a bit (if you don't it is definitely not a meh, my daughter's word), then being reasonably CONTENT and healthy is what really matters. Money really cannot buy that. Go look at the suicide statistics compared to income if you don't believe it. Oh yeah, they are big pharma (one aspect), the kind of folks that modify insulin in a way that improves it in no way at all to end run patent expiration, and then raise the price DRAMATICALLY, to the point where diabetics on fixed incomes were actually dying trying to ration that life giving substance. And the guys that actually DEVELOPED the way insulin is made...they sold the method to mankind, for ONE DOLLAR. There you go, the two totally opposite sides of the spectrum. I'm not perfect, not remotely, but at least I put some effort into trying.

Have you tried simply writing the owner a letter? I would bet 5 cents (after a casino ... never mind) the new management simply pocketed your salary as extra profit. The owner might at least be interested in knowing.

@@Tugela60 Wrong. I was hired directly by the owner. She knew me from a previous refit and wanted me back for another one. She called me directly and she signed my checks.

@@philipmackin1025 I appreciate your polite response. There was an accusation of a drunk captain leaving a lone watchman on at the helm. Was this person completely untrained? Were any of the appropriate systems on and functioning? Even if the captain was drunk was the other watchman also drunk/incompetent or was the equipment not even on or working? With a the hardware available today how did the other ship not see the yacht? This must be a series of incompetent/unfortunate events.

Not enough people know about maritime law. Utopia's Owner and lawyers have said: They have paid ALL known outstanding bills. The ONLY people saying they have NOT been paid are the crew. Just like employees (which they are) there are rules and laws and regulations. You cannot for example got to the doctor 10 days after a car accident and claim whiplash from your insurance - WHO knows what you have been up to since the car accident ? Same with the crew. They are claiming bills. WHAT bills ? Salary ? That's black on white in their contracts OR defined by maritime law. For the time being it's THEIR word against a woman who has inherited a bad situation and lost her husband at the same time. Give her a break, and let's trust her before screaming to high hell.

Well it's not looking that way so far. The yacht is arrested because of a court case and every member of the crew has filed a lawsuit against her. Hopefully she will do what is right.

US Navy, especially the Pacific Fleet, crash into other vessels shockingly often. That's with professional crew and watch at their stations and not under the influence of drugs or alcohol. It's not unimaginable that a civilian vessel could end up running into another vessel. I'm not saying it's not preventable or that it's acceptable in any way. I'm just saying it's inevitable.

It gets complicated fast because its US law Varies by State, and some federal law as it happened outside of the US. Once the boat was in dock and they are not working on it, they are technically laid off. That should give them at least two weeks pay depending on the contracts they signed it could be more. Medical insurance in this case would be the same as any work place injury and would have to be claimed under workman's comp. This is insurance that every company uses and to put it mildly it sucks. You have to only use their doctors, get their permissions, blah, blah, blah. I hate to say it but it would be best to say it happened at home, as the boat was home, and use their own doctor.

Insurance is always there!.except when you need it!
