Thanks for the tour. Brooklyn, Australia, never would have guessed. I can see why you like the open air market. I can see why others don't. The mall close to me is a shadow of what it was. A lot of places seem to have gone downhill since COVID.

I like all the open air markets around. There are never any posh people there. It's good, working class capitalism with a great ethnic variety of food and products.

Definitely enjoy seeing you out and about -- that would be a 'flea market' in this area -- and before the last abandoned drive-in movie locations were bulldozed and turned into housing/offices, weekend flea markets would set up shop in the parking areas. Ahhhh -- those were the days. And I think that you left some very sad Cabbage Patch kids behind....

@jackfriend4u
@jackfriend4u 10 месяцев назад
@@terrytalksmovies i was quite "off" in mentioning Chucky as he was a horror icon from the get go! i'm always very curious about how Public Domain works and thought that if there was an estate attached (be it family or otherwise) as long as they filled out the right paperwork, they could maintain control of their "intellectual property". is it a case where even if a thing is an ongoing money maker, that even after a hundred years a property can still be tightly controlled by the owner at the time? and is it different for films than it is for books? My favorite satire of all things Disney (while it never once shows Mickey and Co) is "Escape from Tomorrow".

We don't "unfortunately" have any markets like this here anymore. I use to love wandering through them. Have you ever seen a movie called "The Reincarnation Of Peter Proud" - starring Michael Sarrazin, Margot Kidder and Jennifer O'Neill from 1975? I saw it at a drive-in when it first came out and haven't seen it since and it isn't talked about and it has a really creepy concept.

Yuma was a made for TV movie. Pilot for a series that not picked up. A good little film. Great haul of bluray and dvd. We call these places 'flea markets' in Canada. Just because they are small but I have been to a few that looks like one could get fleas.

Pretty good prices for your haul, well done. The equivalent market near here is probably Caribbean Gardens (if it's still going), might have to look into a trip. Stiff and The Brushoff are really, really good films. We got the DVDs on their original release (I recorded the price at $10.65 each) in whatever year that was. Always good for a great laugh/squirm. As is the Jack Irish series with Guy Pierce, also local to Melbourne. And the original Underbelly (which I had to buy in Canberra due to the court case being held in Melbourne at that time). And yet, we call Sydney "Sin City". On another note (maybe for science-fiction Saturday sometime) I watched Carnifex the other night and was fairly impressed with it. Looks great, set in the Victorian bush,with a very different beast after them. I'd be interested in your thoughts. Cheers!

When I buy used copies at a thrift store or on Ebay, I always worry about the quality. Was it scratched, will it get stuck in my player. I got a Dracula set with all the Universal Dracula films and disc 2 (double sided) was unplayable so no Dracula's Daughter or House of Dracula. Bummer. They did refund which was nice. Still have both 31 versions.

I've still never done this...and i'm scared of what would happen to my budget if i ever did! delicious lookin' pho! ive got about a 1,000 dvd-blu-rays to unload, and they're just gathering dust and have wondered how much effort and value there is to selling in these kinds of marketplaces. part of what has put me off, in places such as Cash Converters (Australia's premier pawn franchise, if non-Aussies don't know) is how rarely anyone bothers to either categorize the films or even alphabetized. i like to browse and peruse as much as the next errant film maniac with some loose change. but damn! spending a couple of hours to only spend up to a couple of bucks can be tiresome! the weird and wonderful is what i'm usually after especially things that can't even be found on amazon or are way over my budget limit- but a dollar a piece is great value! as someone who still appreciates physical media (-i want to be able to hold in my hand after paying actual cash - no doubt Bad for the environment but anyone wants to take up that particular issue with me better demonstrate how far they take that themselves, hehe!). kinda glad i'm not a gamer as much as i appreciate the form- cos i 'm looking at an electronic screen too much as it is. never heard of Stiff/The Brush off! good haul, good value!
@terrytalksmovies
@terrytalksmovies 10 месяцев назад
For me, the market trips are a bit of cardio, an excuse to get some great food cheaply and see what's around as well as the movie-hunting. Cash Converters occasionally has some good movies but the vibe there isn't as enjoyable as markets are. Yep, the market stall is cash only (I think) so it feels a little old fashioned in a good way.

Terry, love your channel, also a member of the Australian Science Fiction Club, and have a large amount of (Mainly SciFi) dvd's. What do you intend on doing with your collection (After you pass, not being impolite, I'm a similar age) It's just that I'm looking to pas these along, rather than lose them to posterity, and hope you may have either a suggestion, or willing to take them yourself. I have hundreds, most I assume you already have, but what do you do with the excess? I would rather have the ones you don't have go to somehwere later. Perhaps you have a list of what you have, so I can send you what you don't have? I'm even willing to send others later (I'm in the midst of moving atm, so things are in a muddle, some in storage). Anyway, best wishes, and I hope to see many more of your vids :)

I’ve been recently finding a lot of essays on the Mary Sue phenomenon .... where a lot of males have seen so many movies with perfect female protagonist .... and it gets under their skin enough for them to do a essay about the trope. I find that a weird reaction. In that in the history of Film comics and other adventure genres. There are tons of picture perfect hero types that never makes mistakes. In fact when I was a kid. I started rooting for villains because I was tired of so many picture perfect male hero characters. I believe those essays show a lack of understanding For representation. Since they’ve been getting representation Since the beginning of film and adventure genres.
