If you have watched the Markha Valley Part-1, here is a Part-2. I did it 1.5 days but how you can plan.
The trek from Markha to Nimaling to Chogdo is a popular route in the Ladakh region of India, known for its stunning landscapes, high passes, and remote villages. Here's a detailed overview of the trek:
Day 1: Markha to Hankar
- Distance: Approximately 10 km
- Duration: 2-3 hours (depending on your pace)
- Elevation Gain: Moderate
- Highlights: This section of the trek follows the Markha River and passes through beautiful villages like Umlung and Hankar. You'll get your first glimpses of the towering Kang Yatse peak.
Day 2: Hankar to Nimaling
- Distance: Approximately 10 km
- Duration: 6-7 hours
- Elevation Gain: Significant (Hankar is at around 4,000 meters, and Nimaling is at 4,800 meters)
- Highlights: The trek becomes more challenging as you climb towards Nimaling. The landscape opens up, and you'll traverse grassy meadows with panoramic views of the surrounding peaks, including Kang Yatse.
Day 3: Nimaling to Chogdo via Kongmaru La Pass
- Distance: Approximately 14 km
- Duration: 8-9 hours
- Elevation Gain: Ascend to Kongmaru La Pass at 5,200 meters, then descend to Chogdo (4,000 meters)
- Highlights: The day starts with a steep climb to Kongmaru La, the highest point of the trek, offering breathtaking views of the Ladakh and Zanskar ranges. The descent to Chogdo is steep and can be challenging, but the scenery is spectacular, with varied terrain including rocky sections, river crossings, and lush valleys.
Key Points:
- Preparation: This trek is challenging due to the high altitude and long distances. Proper acclimatization is essential. Ensure you are physically fit and well-prepared for the conditions.
- Permits: Foreign trekkers need permits to enter certain areas of Ladakh. Check with local authorities or your trekking agency for the latest requirements.
- Best Time to Trek: The best time for this trek is from mid-June to September when the weather is relatively stable, and the trails are accessible.
- Accommodation: Options include homestays in villages, trekking tents, and organized campsites. Carry a warm sleeping bag and other camping essentials if you're camping.
- Gear: Essential gear includes sturdy trekking boots, warm clothing, a good quality backpack, trekking poles, a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and sufficient water and snacks. A first aid kit and any necessary medications are also crucial.
- Guides and Porters: Hiring a local guide can enhance your experience of you don't know digital navigation and ensure safety. Porters can help carry your gear, especially given the altitude and terrain.
This trek offers a unique blend of cultural experiences and natural beauty, making it a memorable adventure for trekkers.
