Showing simple ways of drawing curves and circles without a compass. Also shows a simple method of drawing an elliptical arch. Two other videos available, covering Marking Out ANGLES and basic Tools & Techniques for marking out woodwork
I have more than once thought about how to create an ellipse, though never sought the answer cause I really didn't have to. But then I stumble across your video and get this really simple solution which is now stored in grey matter for the day I need it! Every day you learn something new and useful is a good day! Thanks a lot Mike! 😀
The very best of all the sites (videos) that I passed over until I found this gentleman with his tips and explanations applying to varius woodworking techniques that are clear, make sense to a beginning woodworker. All are explained in a calm manner that makes sense from the first step to the successful completion of the topic he is teaching. He has a way of explaining so that a person feels like they are right there with him been given an individualized lesson. By far the best instructional video I have ever watched and learned from no matter the subject I was seeking help with!!
This is fantastic!!! Thank you so much!!! I was so very much hoping for a simple but effective way to draw an ellipse. Love it!!! Helps me a lot. Thank you!
Brilliant! You’re the first clip I’ve watched that actually explains every step needed to make a successful ellipse. Plus the tip about the upside drawing pin is genius! Thank you.
This ellipse hack I was trying to think up for the longest time. The one thing you did which I could not think of was using the relationship between the half distance of center to end point of major axis and the high point to find the focal points! It was almost too simple. Looking at plans and knowing the overall length and height are generally all in given and it’s all I need now!
Thanks for your comment, Tony. It is very much appreciated. Often solutions to problems can be worked out in a simple way just by taking the extra time to think. This also applies when you haven't quite got the right tool. Improvisation can often get you out of difficulty and allow you to get on with the job. Good luck with all your DIY work. Sincerely, Mike
Thank you for your kind comment. In DIY work it is often [possible to get round a problem with some thought on how to improvise without all the tools. Good luck with your DIY projects.
Thank you! I need to cut out a very large oval from a sheet of plywood and your explanation was excellent!! I wasn't sure how I was going to do it but now I'm confident that I can. Again many thanks!
Hi Bailey Seven, thanks for your comment. It is so pleasing to know that my videos are really helping people. I used the same marking out technique to cut an oval flower bed in the garden. Good luck with all your DIY projects. Sincerely, Mike
Simplest ellipse trick I've found. I will use this right now for a harp guitar's sound hole. Aiming to shape the surface like the air intake off a Lamborghini.
Thank you so much for such a useful and clear demonstration of how to do this. I'm looking to draw an oval on paper for artwork, and your tip for placing an upwards-facing pin under cardboard is exactly the non-destructive answer I was hoping to find. Hugely appreciated.
i guess im asking the wrong place but does anybody know a method to log back into an instagram account?? I somehow lost my login password. I love any tips you can offer me
@Kameron Arian i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and im trying it out now. Seems to take quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Nice job finally some one who knows how to do the eclipse properly ....but i do recommend using aircraft wire when drawning out large ones ive done then as big as 60 feet by 45feet ....string will give u a wavy line cause it will stretch ...aircraft wire wont .....
Thanks Joel for your nice comment. Improvising and managing with a limited tool kit can be part of the enjoyment on DIY projects. Good luck with all of your work

@@American-Plague "Conspiracy theories" are only theories until a person makes the effort to investigate the matter, evaluate the evidence on both sides, and decide whether its true or false. Then it's no longer a theory. Too many people label an idea as a CT immediately because it makes them uncomfortable, so its easier to label and dismiss than to look into it. What they should be looking into is why it makes them uncomfortable.
