In her book Monroe says she lowered her natural speaking voice for movies in imitation of Dietrich. They also both worked with the photographer Milton Greene and were friends of the columnist Sidney Skolsky. This dress, and all Dietrich's show dresses, were designed by Jean Louis who designed Monroe's "Happy Birthday" dress.
Hmm I don't really know how to explain... She just pronounces everything very expressive: very long, defined vowels and a trilling r. Not many people do the trilled r in Germany today, at least were I live. So when someone just says"geburtstag"casually it sound way less drawn out and defined, she really savours every sound of every word or something, I dunno. :D
