Geoff Butcher has Parkinson's disease. Here we hear him interview a scientist who uses Marmosets as an animal model to investigate Parkinson's disease. The scientist does this by using a chemical called MPTP to destroy the substantia nigra in the Marmosets. This is the part of the brain that is associated with the fine control of movement. It is damage to the substantia nigra that caused the symptoms of Parkinson's disease.
The discovery of MPTP was an accident. Drug-users took contaminated material and developed Parkinsonian-like symptoms. This led to the unravelling of a medical mystery described in The Case of The Frozen Addicts reviewed here:

Animal traffic is the third traffic in the world after weapons & drugs. Dirty money.

I get that you want a better treatment that will make these frightening symptoms go away, but inflicting them upon others isn't the right way to go about it. Regardless of what this research might uncover in the future, can't you see what you're making them go through right now? Understanding Animal Research (UAR) themselves have classified this particular procedure as "severe" in terms of how large the risk of death and suffering in the animals is. You don't want this experience, and neither do they.

Physiology is very different from one species to another. A drug can be effective on one species & have no effect or be nocive on another species. _Translation from: "Animaux cobayes & victimes humaines"_ By Hélène Sarraseca

If that were true, vets wouldn't be able to use human drugs on other animals. Except they can and regularly do, including TV's Supervet www.humanimaltrust.org.uk/. It's called Onehealth and you should look it up.

Except it isn’t. Mammals are so extremely similar, that a drug used in one mammal will indeed work on another mammal very well. We still require the step between ideas and creation of medicines and testing in humans. Please, by all means, you can be the first volunteer to try the live vaccine for Ebola. Me, I’d rather have all my medicines properly vetted and tested.

Excellent video! It's important to get the word out about the continuing benefits of animal research.

It's fabricated lies and propaganda. Look up the failure rates, it's embarrassing.

If U wish to know more about the subject of animal experimentation, read books ➕ type _cats in animal testing_ on google.

Cats & birds are also used in the labs.

Yes, lots of birds. Very few cats.

A few compared to mouses. But a lot in itself as millions of animals are in the hands of cruel scientists. Abuse, pain & even death _more often than not_ is their reality!

@@karinebuinier8351 71 cats used for 198 procedures (table 2) www.gov.uk/government/statistics/statistics-of-scientific-procedures-on-living-animals-great-britain-2017. One procedure was severe (what it sounds like), 6 were moderate (like surgery under general anaesthetic), 191 were mild (like a blood test) (table 3).
