This video shows a rendering of the successful landing sequence of the Mars InSight lander on November 26th, 2018. Everything, with the exception of the precise landing location inside the landing ellipse, shown in this video is accurate data, including the features of the Martian surface in the landing area. The movement of the spacecraft is based on a projected descent and the preprogrammed event schedule prior to the landing event, the surface terrain is based on a combination of the Viking Image Mosaic (astrogeology.u...) and the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter's CTX and HiRISE cameras (mars.nasa.gov/..., mars.nasa.gov/.... All data was used to render this visualization using the open-source software OpenSpace.
The content is rendered using the open-source Astrovisualization framework OpenSpace (openspaceprojec... , github.com/Ope...) which is a collaboration between Linköping University, the American Museum of Natural History, Goddard's Community Coordinated Modeling Center, New York University, and the University of Utah.

This is one of the best videos about the arrival of InSight on Mars for the visual chronometric precision given in the video. Congratulations very very good staff for the composition second after second of landing. Congratulation I think it's the best RU-vid video on the InSight landing Thanks and see you soon. Again a sincere friend from Italy. 218

Thank you received your kind and affectionate answer. Now "guys" you have to prepare for the next mission scheduled on 03 December 2018 with the JPL Arizona team of Dr. D. Lauretta with Osiris Rex for the approach to the asteroid Bennu. I recommend you have to do as for InSight for Mars. minute by minute a beautiful full video on approaching the spacecraft. I'm sure it will be the best RU-vid video and will mark a new real-time video reporting system for a space mission. Come on guys and good work I'm here and I look forward to a great job. From Italy always present for the great USA adventure in the conquest of space. 218

Thanks for the kind thought (heart) sent to me in relation to the message sent on the Osiris-Rex and InSight mission. I hope you continue on this line for the next videos in relation to future and interesting human and non-US missions to conquer space. I am from 1951 and I have followed since 1964 the Ranger missions, Apollo, Surveyor, and for my great passion I presented in USA 1988 (published by ASCE) New Your January 1994 a work on "Recover system in space of External Tank program Space Shuttle ". I continued in my projects and I write to you as I think passionate about the space USA program for my idea to eventually present to you and your team about the technical possibility of a vehicle derived from the shttle with passengers (48 + 2 crew) to launch from the Earth (Florida) and bring the vehicle into lunar low orbit and then return the vehicle (helped) to Earth orbit and then to Earth with its load. If you wish to examine everything (vehicle - help system - return) and then if appropriate, document it at a conference by you I am in Italy), I am happy to receive your judgment and thought. It would be interesting for a US company to bring passengers from the Earth to the Moon and back. It would be a nice interesting and above all exciting trip. Sorry for the trouble with this long message and see you soon. Greetings from Italy and a friend of his.

Does anyone know of another space sim, not combat or NPC types. Just for exploration... I cannot get my openspace to look like in the videos on here. I have a GTX 3060 12 gig and think that is enough GPU power, i7, 32 ram. When I load earth there are no textures...it's a blue ball. I downloaded the HIRES texture packs for the moon, mercury and mar. I don't know where to put them. When I try to load bastileday2000 it says something about a gl error. For what it is now...it is amazing to sail through the universe!!!

Watched live yesterday and after touchdown, within minutes they had a picture send back by Insight. The lens was pretty dirty but you immediately say this beautiful blue sky on the horizon then all of sudden the image was changed to this reddish color. Seem a bit strange that the picture changed like that - seemed almost intentional by NASA.
@abock03
@abock03 5 лет назад
I guess you mean this one (i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media/image/upload/s--MA72FYXt--/c_scale,f_auto,fl_progressive,q_80,w_800/vmrndbvdmyrugvgvhnaj.png)? It's the dust cover that is dirty (which explains the cleaner pictures later). I see where you are coming from with the blue sky, but I would attribute that (and I'm guessing) to either an optical illusion with the blue desktop background, color calibration, or depending on the way the image is transmitted, different color channels being received sequentially.
@xlostlovex

Mars is a 8bit planet
@abock03
@abock03 5 лет назад
Technically; it's a 3 color background texture based on the Viking mosaic (astrogeology.usgs.gov/search/details/Mars/Viking/MDIM21/Mars_Viking_MDIM21_ClrMosaic_global_232m/cub) + a greyscale high-resolution overlay from the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter's Context camera and HiRISE camera. Combining all of them together is 3 color @ 8 bit each + CTX @ 8 bit + HiRISE @ 8 bit, making this mars a 40 bit planet ;)

Why using CGI? Is there any real picture from landing to see?
@abock03
@abock03 5 лет назад
We created this video before the landing took place based on a projected descent and the preprogrammed event schedule. Hopefully, there will be a picture from the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter showing the landing, similar to the landing of Curiosity (www.nasa.gov/sites/default/files/styles/full_width_feature/public/images/673727main_PIA15980-full_full.jpg), but we won't get any more. The first image they received was on the surface (cosmos-images2.imgix.net/file/spina/photo/17382/181128-insight-full.jpg?ixlib=rails-2.1.4&auto=format&ch=Width%2CDPR&fit=max&w=3800)
