Marseille - FREEDOM (Official Video) 

We’re going to have to go get the music, sounds & vibe we want from places other than radio. I know that record companies, advertisers and the Tavistock no longer want to see all male, guitar bands and more. Old lags, sure. Not new talent. They like soy boys who wear dresses, deprioritise analogue music, especially guitars, amp up lyrics that are close to Satanism and certain deviance in a bad way & they don’t like young men who look like they could look after themselves, women and move their own equipment around. If Oasis or the Verve were coming up now instead of 30 years ago, it’s absolutely possible we’d never even have heard of them. Contrary to the origins stories we let ourselves be told, which are usually “improved in the telling” & sometimes outright fibs, neither band was an overnight success. The ploughed lovely furloughs for quite a while until they were pretty darned tight. Even then, and there are plenty of opinions here, they just weren’t that good right out of the box, despite the heavy weapons they had in talented songwriters and stunning, unique sounding frontmen. I don’t know enough about Verve’s origins myths v reality, but on Oasis, had they not encountered The Real People and then the boss of Creation Records and last but definitely not least, tripped over Owen Morris near the peak of his magic, I still think we’d find them hard to remember now. It was “everything” that made them enormous. Songwriting, music, melody, lyrics, arrangements, the cocky Gallagher brothers, completely lacking f***s, Liam’s voice etc etc that boosted them. I think the glib tale of luck at King Tuts in Glasgow is a tease story. It doesn’t happen like that. It could have, but it just didn’t. It was a much longer journey than that and I’ve always credited Noel’s genius, ambition and willingness to be “a bit of a bastard” (his own words) that was the steel that held it all together. There’s a reason he’s called The Chief!

It never died, but the record companies & the social engineers at the Tavistock don’t want to promote guitar based all male bands any longer.

Looks like it might be a different band, these guys are a lot younger than the other Marseille band, might not know they share the same name as the original Marseille unless it's the same band with a totally different line up. Their music still isn't bad though

We are a totally different band to the Marseille that was formed in 1976 in Liverpool by Neil, but thanks for checking us out!

Influences actually go back all the way to the 60's to now, we're reimagining them into a modern way, The Beatles, The Stones, Love, The Doors and a hint of 90's Madchester but so what? We're making music we enjoy, because no one else is...
