A section of the railway journey between Hastings in East Sussex and Ashford in Kent. Having passed through Ore, Three Oaks and Doleham, this point in the journey marks the transition from the Sussex hills to flatter terrain. The line enters the Brede Valley here, before reaching Winchelsea, a small but historic town with three stone arches that was laid out in a grid pattern to replace the earlier fishing town. From here until Ham Street there are no significant gradients on the line.
