A Marsh Link train bound for Ashford arrives at Ham Street on a cold January day. The one-word spelling of Hamstreet is generally used these days and maps of the village appeared on a set of postage stamps to mark 200 years of the Ordnance Survey in the 1990s. The railway climbs a gradient of 1 in 100, climbing the clay hills that surround Romney Marsh.
