This is what I think most people want to see when they watch a review. Most reviews are just people blabbering for 80% of the video about the features of the amp. A quick google search can get you all this information. What people want is to hear the damn thing.

Thanks @Michael Bell, actually I've been thinking about buying a cabinet for the head, like a 60's Marshall or something different, what I'm not sure about is if perhaps I should go for a very "general purpose" cabinet to get out the most of it in combination with the Head. And I wonder if activating the cabinets function in the Head combined with a real cabinet will sound fine or just terrible. I wish there was a demo like this on the Internet.

I've been getting some great Plexi, JTM45, and JCM800-like sounds recently with my Code 100H. I am convinced... sometimes it is better to step away from an amp for a while and then return with fresh ears to continue adjusting and tweaking. I thought I had some good tones with it at first but, for some reason, began using my DSL100 Head again for about a 2 month stretch. After coming to the conclusion the DSL was just too loud for band practices in a private residence, I turned to the Code head again and, this time, began to make deeper adjustments. I discovered that having the Presence and Resonance controls optimally adjusted makes a huge difference in getting more authentic tones. Also, to lengthen sustain, the "Gate" feature (as in noise gate) needs to be dialed WAY back in most presets - even if this means getting a little bit of noise, like from your single coil pickups. Think of it as just being the true nature of single coil pickups through any tube amp. I try to set my Gate to no more than "2" for most pre-sets and go even less than that when I'm using humbucker pickups. However, some presets may need the Gate set anywhere from 4 to 6 in order to keep the "tightness" in the preset - like for playing tight metal rhythms. Otherwise, the articulation will get saggy and loose. Experimenting with the different "Power" amp settings makes significant changes to the tone and feel of the selected amp as well. My favorite 3 settings in this video are the: "JTM45" at 00:01, the "Plexi" at 0:34 and 0:46 (same Plexi preset but with guitar volume rolled up, or maybe a tube screamer punched in), and the "Compressor - CL American Model - Chorus - Delay - Reverb" at 2:35 pre-sets. These are highly usable sounds. Hard to find fault in an amp that can produce these tones! IMHO... Guitar Bonedo showed a lot of "ear talent" in creating these 3 examples. Overall, I am really pleased and glad I invested in this amp and its matching cabinet. It is SO versatile and keeps me constantly motivated to find even better tones in it!
@PaulChoate-s4v
@PaulChoate-s4v Год назад
Couldn't agree more. I've had the amp for a couple of weeks and at least three times I packed it back in the box to return it only to set it back up and tweak it more. I was determined to get it sounding good. Glad I persevered as I'm really liking it. And yes, the Gate, Presence and Resonance settings have a significant impact on the tone. Also, turning off the CAB when playing through a cabinet is important (for some odd reason the CAB default is set to be on in all of the presets). I'd like to see the settings used on this video for the tones. They sound great.

This amp is alot better than I expected. I bought it primarily as a headphone practice amp but it is great. It does have a learning curve, you just have to poke around for a while, then it starts to make sense and you can get very good sounds in no time. Took me a few hours to get comfortable with it, but now it's a joy to use. Actually, the "fender" amp model is VERY close to a real fender tube amp. I know because there's a real Fender tubeamp head on top of my Marshall, that I switch over on the same cab. You can get it virtually identical after some tweaking, pretty impressive!

I found this so helpful because ot did not include a whole mass of distorted, shred and rock tones which many amps can produce but also previewed some great clean tones.....no talking also meant we did not waste time and saw exactly what was happening.....thank you...great review!!!

Fine Playing Brother Man .. Very Good Demo .. no Jabber, just toggling through everything and doing nice, classic riffs that gives the listener the best representation of what the amp can do .. so many of these a** clowns on YT, are doing nothing to further the evolution of our species .. being one of those lifelong guitarists with thousands of hours recording experience, I personally have found that with attention to Volume and Preset levels, one can get SO CLOSE to the real thing, that lugging heavy English and German Tube heads around to every venue, is both cumbersome and impractical .. my opinion changed one night when I walked into a Club and the Guitar players was getting ASS KICKIN' TONE .. I looked around for a TUBE HALF STACK .. didn't see one .. looked for a Rack, did not see one of those either .. then to my shock, I glanced down at the Guitar players feet and there was a Mustang V3 on the floor, miked .. they were bleeding a little out the mains and the guys TONE was f****** excellent .. I was literally blown away .. I had pre-ordered the Katana but after about 2 hours with it, it was pretty damned good up to a certain volume, but I almost hated that fucker .. I then demoed the Mustang V3 and then demoed the Marshall CODE and was "on the fence" about the Code or the Mustang V3 .. but your Demo brought that decision to a new place .. Sounded really good Man .. THX

The best part is the price. Too many ( major majority) of guitarists and bands focus on spending money and being technical rather than producing original music. The fact is the majority of guitarists SUCK ASS. A talented guitarist creative musician can play on anything. This amp is perfect for lice or recording. FOCUS on creating and writing original songs , gigging and pursuing the dream. Rock on

Is the sound any different from the Code 100 combo amp?
@SlimeyGuitarStrings
@SlimeyGuitarStrings 3 года назад
Yes and no. Speakers matter a lot so you can change the sound by changing speaker cabs with the head. On traditional amps, combos have to be open back speakers to allow for the heat to vent. Open vs Closed back speakers affect the bass response. Open back will give you a more lush and loose low end whereas a closed back cabinet will give you a tighter but less pronounced bass response. The cabinet and combo are both closed back so they should sound very very close.

This is the best demo of a Code I’ve heard. Kudos to the playing and the lack of talking. Having said that, I’m still puzzled at why anyone would want a Marshall modeling amp. If versatility is what you want, there are so many workhorse amps out there, many of them tube and affordable. And they retain their resale value because they aren’t gimmicky. Get one of these amps plus a few MIAB pedals to cover whatever eras you like, and boom, instant versatility, plus that elusive “kicks like a mule” thing that any decent tube amp will do. The Codes are going to reach “can’t give these away” status when their sales cycle is done.
@MisterAbrahamSir
@MisterAbrahamSir 5 лет назад
Maybe they can't crank a tube amp in their house so a digital model is a more logical option? Maybe they can't afford all those different amps and this one amp serves their purpose? Or possibly hauling one amp to a gig is easier than hauling 3-6 amps? You're kind of missing the entire point of this amp. Anyone knows you can buy the actual amps, obviously.
@charleslivingston803
@charleslivingston803 5 лет назад
Abraham Valle no. I didn’t miss the point. They’re versatile and cheap. Got it. But they’re old news when the lustre of a new purchase wears off. They sound ok, but not great. Why not just save a little more money and get something you’ll love for years and years? PPIMVs sound great these days, or you could get a 1 watt or 5 watt amp if low volume is important. If silent practice is essential, there are tons of great apps and software that do that for next to no $, why spend so much on hardware that is doomed to be outdated? And I never advocated hauling multiple amps to a gig. I did mention miab pedals with 1 amp for versatility. I think it is you who missed my point.
@MisterAbrahamSir
@MisterAbrahamSir 5 лет назад
@@charleslivingston803 No, you're still not making a point. If someone can't afford more than one amp, you have no point. A JCM 800 alone might be too expensive for some, for them this is a good alternative. You're completely missing why most people buy these kinds of amps: they're affordable. Most players understand it's the fingers and not the price of the amp. A good player will sound good on an amp like this. THAT'S the real point.
@MisterAbrahamSir
@MisterAbrahamSir 5 лет назад
@@charleslivingston803 Yet again, you're missing the point entirely. They buy an affordable amp because it's AFFORDABLE. As in, they cannot afford a real tube amp which do have their advantages but as I said before if you know how to play it doesn't matter except to to tone snobs who believe tubes are a must. You do realize this is a Marshall modeling amp that models Marshall amps don't you? That is precisely why I'm comparing it to other Marshall amps that the average user is trying to emulate because why? Because this modeling amp (that models Marshalls, like the JCM 800 for instance) is affordable. We're flattered by your insistence on playing "better" tube amps but you're stating the blatantly obvious. Those who buy these amps know just as much, if not more than, as you do about the differences in amps. No shit dude. We all know what you're trying to enlighten us with. This is about the amp itself, not why you wouldn't buy one, as honestly no one really cares as they shouldn't. Die on the hill? No, I just hate seeing inexperienced guitar players trying to flex their internet knowledge when in fact they're entirely missing the point and contribute nothing of merit. It's a MARSHALL modeling amp, therefore it models MARSHALL amps and that's its appeal. That's why people buy it.

So this amp just has a bunch of built in effects is that why you like it? I personally like super hi gain so most of that I wouldn't even use. I was looking for a new half stack and the price is super cheap on this I dont even know how they can sell the cab for $250 is it made in China junk or what? I use the Metal Muff pedal and the MXR fullboar metal and so far it seems like most amps sound the same but the speakers is what makes a difference. I'd love to get peoples thoughts on this. Does the amp you use really matter much when using hi gain pedals?
@Jason-zv1df
@Jason-zv1df 6 лет назад
Well that would bring me to another question sorry lol. What's the big deal with tube amps? From what I gather it's just about that 70's overdrive sound and harmonic feedback or some bs. I personally don't care to sound classic at all but even if i did you don't think a overdrive pedal into a cranked 100watt solid state 412 rig wouldn't be pretty dang close?

If it’s too bassy in the Resonance, crank the Presence almost all the way up & start playing with it there.

Eric M I assume that maybe this was meant to be a joke, but... the Spider amps aren’t as bad as people claim. All of these different amps have pros and cons. Haha

@@xXEmbracetheMetalXx The Spider amps are worse than people claim. The only Line 6 product in my house now is the aquarium I made out of the case after that POS burned out on me again. There are no logos on it just so it doesn't kill the fish or make them stupider. I'd rather play through a Fender Mustang v2 than anything Line 6 makes.

Young Frankenstein Sorry to hear about your amp trouble. I know people who have had good experiences with the newer Spider amps. They really like them, and the amps have some good clean channels, so they run effects pedals through them and all that. I have read about MANY complaints about Spider amps going out. Which amp model line was yours from? Which Spider amp version?

@@xXEmbracetheMetalXx (1) Bought the V60 combo with the pedal and wireless transmitter, died in two months. (2) Warranty exchanged the V60, died in three months and blacked out the house when it popped and sparked. (3) Got a refund on the second one and a discount on a V120, lasted three months and powered on but wouldn't produce sound. (4) Gutted the V120 and turned it into an aquarium, hasn't caught fire yet. (5) Bought a Marshall Code 100 2x12 and haven't had a problem, plus it sounds a lot better. The emulation is unbelievable.

What ruins this type of amp is that the company can't stick to modelling their own historical amps and have to do everyone else's too. This ensures that they always miss a good number of their own historical amps to make room for other manufacturers amps. I would feel like a mug standing there playing a fender sound through a Marshall branded product.

No it doesn't, it doesn't sound like it's through a computer, even though that is what it is, if you are able to use this amp right you can get some insane tones, to the point where it sounds like a tube amp, and yes, he was probably using a fender, which isn't the greatest thing to test amps with, since they aren't made for high gain. I've watched many videos of this thing up against the real thing, and wow, it performed great

Cleans tones are usable. Distorted ones are not. You can just tell it's not the real thing. I wouldn't buy one.

This is not what we want. We want to see a demo with 5 seconds of a lead line and 5 seconds of chords for all factory preset's on the amp (arpeggio and a sweep). You can speak for each preset....this is Jimi, this is plexi 1

I'm gonna pair this with a Blackstar iD 60TVP-H for studio use, Both sound so great but I do prefer the BS-ID60TVP. It's gonna be a long time but as soon as I have everything set up I'll post a video showing the results, Should be EPIC. @@stankfanger1366 No, most people can but that's not the problem, most people can afford expensive tube amps, this sounds pretty fucking close even though the presets suck, if you go on Marshall's website you'll find user created Presets that you can import, the code 100 and the 100H are amazing amps that fix the cabinet issues the smaller ones have and they sound pretty fucking good for 250-300$, I got mine used for just 180$(Code 100 combo) and it's surprisingly close how similar it sounds to my teacher's JVM Marshall.
