Marshall JVM205H - Direct Out Metal

Happy New Amp Day. Last week I bought a very special version of Marshall JVM205H. It's a limited 'Stealth' but with custom black and white tolex. Seller said that refinish was don by Zillacabs. Yeah!
I'm Matt Trojak and welcome to my RU-vid channel. My channel is all about to guitars, amps, effects, plugins everything related to guitar gear in Metal context.

For now, I'm loving versatility of this amp, even though it's half of JVM410. 2 channels, 6 modes, 2 fx loops, MIDI control.
Marshall takes pedals very good, and even it's not modded (yet), It sounds great!

Do you have to have it plugged into a cabinet or can you just use the head on standby?

JBEE 85 From JVM205 Manual: „STANDBY Switch & Silent recording (2) As stated above the STANDBY Switch is used in conjunction with the POWER Switch to wʻ arm upʼthe amplifier before use and to prolong the life of the output valves. When the amplifier is in standby mode the whole preamplifier section continues running at its nominal voltages whilst the power amplifier remains in a standby status. This allows the amplifier to be used for silent recording or preamplification purposes. NOTE: Only when the STANDBY is off can the amplifier be used without a load for silent recording. Always ensure a load is connected when leaving the silent recording mode, i.e. when switching the STANDBY switch ON.”

asr 01 I don’t know which speaker are in combo version, but as you can hear from my video amp can play modern metal quite good :)

Sure! It's at bedroom volume. It sounds as you hear on recording. Very good!

AFAIK previous owner send it to Zilla Cabs so they did custom tolex for him.

First of all that's a big 🤘 on your playing man!! I'm looking at purchasing one of these amp ( that color would be awesome ) but I'm a little confused on 2 things. 1, does the head need to be connected to cab when recording direct out? 2, say I have a pedal rack and I want to record the cab via mic and also a clean out via the direct out ( for reamping later on) will the direct out send a clean channel or send out what's coming out the cab. Or will I still need a DI Box to do this? If anyone has knowledge please share . Thanks,,

Hello. I believe you shouldn’t use valve amp without load ever, but the thing is that poweramp does not require load until amp is in standby, so theoretically you could play without cab. TBH I never tried it and I don’t recommend it. Also DI is giving you the same signal as heard from the speakers except power amp section. DI is after preamp and FX loop right before poweramp. So for your scenario you would need at least ABY switch connected to the audio interface Hi-Z input and second to the amp. From my experience I love to record amp as it it’s, rather than tweaking amp sims in DAW for days :)

How did you get that awesome finish on the jvm? Was it a limited production at some point or did you have it custom refinished?

Mateusz Trojak wow, it seriously might be the best looking head I've ever seen and awesone demo by the way. The store I work at just started stocking vintage and they're insane for the money so its cool to see one out in the wild.
