I can't believe how long it's been since watching this channel.....Jesus, talk about sobering. I remember when you demo'd that Egnater Renegade! (making you feel old aren't I!). Btw....I went out and bought one of those after that demo...lol. But, I digress... Man, you and I have the exact same ear for tone. That SLO clone, the Splawn, and the Silver Jubilee, which sounds absolutely spectacular (very few videos of a well-dialed in Silver Jubilee) are THE perfect amps for that uber-crunch classic hard-rock/metal tone. Anyone would be proud to own any one of those amps.
It's wild man. I've had that Nitro for the longest time but it's kind of a bear on stage and the SLO just is pedal to the metal ALL the time. The Jubilee is just such a perfect rock, blues amp and it sits absolutely flawlessly in a stage mix. I'm glad Marshall dropped the price on their products here lately but I still think that the Ceriatone Jubilee is the way to go, especially if you can find used. I kinda miss the old Renegade. I never got to try those Tweaker amps. They always looked cool and I feel like the Egnaters were the best premium chinese tube amps being made back then. Our singer had a Bogner Alchemist and we never could get a decent sound out of it and while the Jet City amps are great, they were a notch lower on the tone quality vs the Egnaters.
@@FastRedPonyCar I agree 100%. If I could only have one for all styles, it would be that Jubilee. Sitting down and playing my personal favorite music I'd go with the SLO. Btw...I thought that was a Quickrod (which I personally prefer....it reminds me a lot of the SLO). I'm surprised to hear you went with the Nitro. Btw...Something I recently learned. If you're going to buy a Ceriatone....play it first. I waited 11mo to have a Yeti 50 show up DOA, with tube issues among other things. To say it put a bad taste in my mouth was a massive understatement. And, Nik at Ceriatone stands by his products, but he only communicates via e-mail, and is in Malaysia. So, you're stuck figuring out problems on your own with nothing more than e-mail instructions. It turned into a sh!t-fest. And, I was SO excited to get that amp. But, I digress....your Jubilee copy sounds more refined than most of the Marshalls I've heard. Not sure what you're doing, but you've got a GREAT ear for dialing in tone. For what it's worth, I had the mini, and loved it. Anyway, I'm rambling.... It's great to still see you still active on your channel.👍
@@phillamoore157 So my Jubilee, while techincally a Ceriatone kit, was built by Ryan Prentice (down further in this video's comments actually) and I believe he used some better bits and pieces inside the amp and rather than the Cieratone transformers, it has a Drake output transformer and a ClassicTone power transformer. Other than that, no secrets to getting it sounding good. Just turn all the knobs to 10 HAHAH
Honestly I think it depends on your budget, your use case and if you value more choice or a more finely curated but less choice. The captor X is an awesome unit and all the 3rd party virtual cabs they sell are really cool and you can use your own 3rd party IR’s also. If you are wanting something l to use with a tube amp, you have to either buy the UA OX box or the captor X or some other reactive load/IR loader. You have you use some type of load box before the OX Stomp. The OX box is really expensive but it’s the best sounding option if you want a load box and the best sounding/feeling cab sim on the market but you can get a used captor X and ox stomp for cheaper than an OX box and the benefit of using the ox stomp with modelers, preamp rack units, preamp pedals and other gear that doesn’t need a load box. I would say if you ARE using a normal guitar amp, get the captor first and try out (it’s free) the Friedman and big hairy guitar cabs to see what you think. They’re impressive. If you want a better sounding/feeling cab sim and are ok with having that limited selection, give the ox stomp a try using the captor bypassing the cab sim like how I’ve done here.
@@phillamoore157 Howdy. I really haven't built an amp for sale for quite a while. I used to do it for supplemental income and just because frankly it's super fun. I've got a couple of Marshall type amps I've built for various guys who still gig them quite a bit a decade later but it's been years. Although I've been wanting to build myself a JTM-45ish kind of thing. Honestly, Ceriatone will do it for about what my parts cost and for the most part their stuff is beautifully executed and there's nothing wrong with their components.

I'd love to build one, but it from all the research I've done, the painful truth is that it requires MUCH more than just being good with a soldering iron....that's for sure, or I would've tried myself. It's funny you mention that JTM. I've got a Little Sister based on that circuit, that I'm in love with. I'm pulling tones out of it that I had no idea you could get from an EL84 tube set. And, I just recently added a Hot Mod EVO V2 to it that makes it even better. But, I digress. I had a miserable experience with Ceriatone. It took them 12mo to send me a Yeti 50 that showed up DOA, due to bad tubes (among other things), so it put a REAL bad taste in my mouth. Come to find out, that's not all that uncommon with them. That said, the amps that are made well, by the competent builders there, sound amazing. There's not a bad video, that I'm aware of on RU-vid. It's what inspired my original purchase. So, I'm a bit snake bit on ordering one directly through them again. But, I may reach out to Nic and see if the company has bounced back from the Covid crap-storm, given I think that was a big part of the problem. Anyway, the channel dropped your name, so I thought I'd reach out. His amp sounds spectacular, so if the day gig ever falls through, I'm sure you could pay the bills building killer amps!
