MARSHALL STABILITY TEST WITH FORMAT FILLING PROCEDURE

Marshal test is extensively used in routine test programs for the paving jobs. The stability of the mix is defined as a maximum load carried by a compacted specimen at a standard test temperature of 60 °C. The flow is measured as the deformation in units of 0.25 mm between no load and maximum load carried by the specimen during stability test (flow value may also be measured by deformation units of 0.1 mm). This test attempts to get the optimum binder content for the aggregate mix type and traffic intensity. This is the test which helps us to draw Marshall Stability vs. % bitumen.

Sir, No. of division * correction factor * calibration factor = Marshall Stability. In which unit does it give the marshall stability value ? Is it Kg or KN ? And in which unit of Marshall stability should we plot the bitumen vs stability graph ?

Sir for dia 100 mm it will be in bath for 30 mins & if the dia is 150 mm it will be bath for 45 to 60 mins...? as per ASTM standard or simply follow the one... pls suggest me it may be very helpful to me...

We are testing for deformation , not for compression .If we keep vertical it will be compression test and really if you want to test for compression use CTM machine .

For fully submerged object , as per Archimedes' law: Apparent immersed weight= weight of object - weight of displaced fluid(Weight of mould in water) So suppose weight mold in air (SSD Condition) is 1197 gm & weight in water 707 gram Apparent Immersed weight will be = 1197 - 707 = 490 gram Now volume of immersed object = Apparent immersed weight/ density of fluid =( 490 gram)/( 1 gram /cc) = 490 cc
