I vote Marshall. The Bogner has less clarity in mids. Both are nice amps!

Rob Miller That tightness in the Marshall is nice

Blake Mansfield I am considering getting this amp. I love my 2203x. I think I like this better than the PT-20 I just got. There's just something about a Marshall that cuts. I wish they had the Friedman effects loop Great job on this video

Rob Miller thanks man. I know what you mean about the Friedman stuff. It’s a great voice but it’s removed from that classic Marshall thing

I love the grunt of the Bog , but you hear how much better the Marshall would sound in a mix. My vote is Marshall

All these reviews featuring the Ch2 gains are great but the best part of the 20th Shiva in my opinion is THAT GLORIOUS CLEAN CHANNEL! I would have sold my 20th Shiva if it wasn't for the Clean Channel.
@blakemansfield2356
@blakemansfield2356 4 года назад
Adam Barker Hard to disagree with you there- that clean channel is ridiculous. I have a video of just the 20th that has a couple clean clips, but it’s hard to capture how awesome it is.

Marshall all the way!!! Bogners are great, but the JCM circuit just slays!

The Shiva definitely has more harmonic content and saturation, but is a little smeared in the mids. The SC20H has that classic Marshall bark and sounds like it’s ready to fit perfectly in a mix.

Great comparison. I had a Bogner Shiva 20th with KT88s. Loved the cleans, but loved my Marshalls more (JCM 800 2210 & JVM 410HJS). Just something about that Marshall crunch. Nowhere near the Shiva's clean channel though. I did think the Shiva really nailed the XYZ Inside Out at the end.

Bogner sound similar to my Peavey 6505+ crunch channel. I suggest to up some mids. JCM800 studio sounds like a legendary 80's holy grail. I'm in love with Dokken, EVH, etc. tones and Marshall deal with it.

The Bogner sounds too HI-FI and scooped. I love how gritty and "present" Marshalls sound. I used to think they were buzzy and harsh but I've come to really prefer that over other HI-FI sounding distortion.
@mrnorbotron3308
@mrnorbotron3308 2 года назад
That's because the mids are way more dailed in on the Marshall and the highs are low. I don't know why in the video the settings are nearly the opposite. It seems he wanted to be the Bogner sound weird. Look at the knobs. This video is so useless.

EQ's being set drastically different between amps makes this a less than apples to apples comparison. I love both of these amps; hard to go wrong with either one of them. It would have been nice to see more of a symmetrical head-to-head, but I dug the video all the same. Thanks.
@blakemansfield2356
@blakemansfield2356 5 лет назад
- B Thanks for watching. Not sure setting the EQ knobs identically would be very fair to either amp. The 800 has a ridiculous amount of treble and the Shiva is quite dark with treble at noon. They’re just very different amps

The Marshall sounds great and better on this clip than the Bogner. Of course I'm a little biased, I have an old 2203 that is my "practice amp."

Not one word about the little switches the Bogner has. Is there any switch engaged? Huge difference when you engage the shift switch for example or the mode... What about the excursion knob on the back? No info about that so the comparison makes no sense for me. Sorry to much information missing here.

I’m a huge Bogner fan but after owning 3 shivas over the years (silver and green chassis and the 20th anniversary EL34 and KT88) I never like them. Too stiff, muddy and bloaty, even the 20th. With that said, I’ve heard some people get great tones from them but even Cantrell had to have Reinhold mod his back in the day.
@blakemansfield2356
@blakemansfield2356 5 лет назад
Hey Brent we talked about your power station via text a while back. And yea- I’m kind of over the Bogner/Friedman thing these days. Not raw enough. This is still one of my favorite amps though and I could see owning one again further on down the line for the hard rock thing- just so many other amps to try
@Bognerman14
@Bognerman14 3 года назад
Why do you have the treble so high on the Bogner? In person I find the Shiva sounds tighter and clearer, and darker. In this demo the Marshall is darker. It comes down to EQ.

Does this Shiva have the KT88s in it? Maybe the regular Shiva with EL34's might be more similar? I did like the Shiva but for the money that little JCM800 is a no brainer. Can you compare this studio JCM 800 to the studio plexi version?

I think its the way the is dialed in. The Marshall is brighter...but the Bogner is creamier...dont like the way Bogner has been EQ...I have that amp and mine sounds better
@blakemansfield2356
@blakemansfield2356 4 года назад
Well the mini 800 is significantly brighter than the Shiva by nature. The Treble on the 800 is way down low if you look at the amp in the clips. The Bogner, by nature, is on the darker side, but I like to push the treble up on it to bring in some more brightness, which is what I have done in this video.

I had the 800 and sold it i have the shiva and its never going anywhere there is a massive difference between these amps the 800 in my opinion is overrated the Shiva is one of the best amps ever its a beast, kills the 800 in every way.

What in the heck is a studio classic. Just ad an EQ into the Bogner loop and it will do the Marshall thing.

Marshall For the win. Bogner is darker, and 3 times the money. Throw an SD-1 in front of the marshall and the bogner is left behind. Low end comes from the PA system so it's pretty irrelevant. I just sold my last 100 watt amp, and My amps now consist of the SC20 combo, the SC20, and SV20 heads, and 2x12 cab. it's more than enough for gigging.

Nice collection of amps! I'm envious. Did you have a 100W JCM800? I just ordered the SC20H and matching 2x12 cab - my first 'real' Marshall. Are you using the studio 2x12?

I've watched all your Marshall vs Bogner videos and I have concluded that you do not understand the EQ Bogner amplifier nor how it should set the sound. Personally, I own Shiva and I often test with my friends Marshalls who have a dozen and generally is Bogner > Marshall. It was watching your Origin Vs Shiva video and if you open volumen little bit Bogner will blow Origin and JCM 800 from the ground. Bogner is not for everyone and you should always know how to set the tone you obviously do not know, the pity because the amplifier is great!
@blakemansfield2356
@blakemansfield2356 5 лет назад
Domagoj Zagorac Not sure what you mean about the EQ. I ran it with bass and mid around noon and treble pushed a bit to get cut some top end cut- which is how Jerry Cantrell ran his- great sound. The volume was ungodly loud. Channel at noon and master above noon. That is incredibly loud. Thanks for watching

Маршалл покайфовее будет, в рамках классик-рока. Богнер более густой, и он совсем не альтернатива 800-му.
