I believe black and white cookies originated in upstate NY, specifically the Binghamton area. They were traditionally chocolate and the white frosting was actually a butter cream, they were also known as half moon cookies. Also from the area, city chicken...a way of making a chicken leg from pork when chicken was difficult to get during WWII. Also claiming fame from the same area, the addictive Spiedie.
She made the Maryland peach cake incorrectly. They are actually supposed to be peeled and the sugar is supposed to be confectionera sugar. I grew up in Maryland near the bakery that started it.
@@christineblaszczyk1602 Nobody is doubting that the lemon juice trick works in chemical terms. But it is not buttermilk in anyway. In terms of flavour and texture of the final product, it's like night and day.
Cute but severely inaccurate opening, Martha. Those early “settlers” did not farm the land themselves, and the land that they stole from Natives did not belong to them; they enslaved innocent African people who were forced to farm the land against their will so that Thomas Jefferson and his buddies could enjoy the fruits and economic benefits of SLAVE LABOR. I understand that you’re trying to sell your recipes, but perpetuating false and inaccurate information maintains the status quo of inequality within our society. If you’re going to tell a story, then tell the WHOLE truth instead of a mythical fairytale.
