Martha Wash didn't play NOT one game with this one. Aretha was her favorite singer. The RU-vidr Delissa Hunter summed it up when she said " a lot of singers can sing with power, but few have power & a beautiful tone" & I definitely agree. Not a lot of powerful singers also have a pleasant tone. For me, Martha, Jennifer Holiday & of course Whitney sit at that table.
One of the greatest vocalist of our time! I remember when this album came out, it was during the disco era and this was a huge standout track!! The rises and falls in her voice plus the Clarity in her voice made her the superstar in dance music that she still is today! Get into it!
Martha Wash is definitely, one of the greatest singers on the planet!! Powerful, distinctive, melodious, is Martha’s voice! Aretha Franklin is her favorite singer, and in my opinion, Ms. Wash should be among vocal icons like Aretha, Patti, Whitney, to name a few!! 🥰🎵🎶
She sings her entire face off. Martha Wash is not to be played with. Her voice is amazing, and they was ghostwriting her voice for a reason. This is my favorite ballad by her. She is 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
Actually Martha's voice mirrors that of Lynette Hawkins Stephens. This song is one of my all time favorites. When Martha, Izora and Sylvester sang together it was pure magical bliss. Absolute ear candy. Martha is truly the voice of the 80s and early 90s dance music genre. Legendary
She was one of Whitneys fave singers... she worked with her a number of times and advocated for her when the music industry was using her voice n not her face...
I was so happy when I saw the title, one of my favorite songs and singers of all time, 5 minute of pure slayage, ending careers and singing all them girls down, good sanging. This is martha at the peak of her power serving amazing vocals with her brilliant dramatic soprano voice. The world misses baddass singers like her that were able to belt out a song Long live to Martha Wash
I think you mean Jennifer Holliday lol because Martha was not in Dream Girls. But Whitney did love Martha's voice & did a few of the same head voice runs.
@@JaySmith-mz7vg I meant Dreamland.. Two tons of fun… black box .. Jabara .. Whitney worked with Martha’s producer doing background before Arista.. she loved Martha.
This IS my favourite song of all time, Sylvester and Fuqa wrote this for Martha specially. She sings it with such beauty and makes us feel it with our souls. I truly love Martha's voice, it is fabulous.
Martha is one of the worlds best singers the power and clarity is out of this world and i have to tell you she is not even going for it .... thanks for doing the video so glad you loved Martha because she is rather special X
..... and her perfect, PERFECT pitching. She hits every single note in the centre of the bullseye and she DRILLS the notes home. Only one Martha. I had the great pleasure and privilege of singing with her back in the 1980's in London.
@@soulfulvoices2341 @Soulful Voices I was performing with the great pianist/vocalist Eric Robinson in a club called Heaven in Central London back in about 1988 when Martha and Izora unexpectedly walked it. Eric was the pianist and singer who played/performed on Sylvester's live album "Living Proof" (1979). His is the stunningly beautiful voice who dueted with Sylvester on "A Song For You"/"Could It Be Majic" on that album. Anyways, Martha and Izora unexpectedly walked in whilst Eric and I were performing and to my great delight, joined us on stage for about the next 2 hours or so. They were dear friends of Eric. We all spontaneously sang the night away, singing many soul classics, one after the other. A particularly fun memory was when I was singing Lionel Richie's "Three Times A Lady" specifically to Martha. Suddenly, whilst I was singing, Izora jumped on stage behind me, waving a big white hanky, repeatedly singing at the very top of her voice (Yvonne Elliman's) "It should've been Me" 😂🤣. It was extremely funny and is now of course a most delightful/treasured memory.
@@suchisthismystery2814 Thank you so much for sharing this memory with me. I had the chance to talk with Eric on Facebook about his past work. He is so talented ! I would have loved to see you guys singing soul classics !!! There are so few videos of Martha from that time :/
@@soulfulvoices2341 What a small world! 😊 Eric is phenomenally gifted. Sadly, like Martha, he never got the recognition and public success that he deserved. Their voices at that time were truly heavenly. Yes, it's such a shame there isn't more video footage of these great artists from those days. They were overlooked sadly, or worse still, used and discarded by the rotten music industry. There were others also, great talents that never got their chance to shine!
She was the voice behind black Box and c&c music factory they both done her dirty but she had the last say when she sued and won finally getting not only the respect but recognition she deserved
@Just the Voice Her voice had you almost speechless. almost stuttering! Lol . Martha's voice is a power house. I had the album back in the 80's. That song gave me chills and in tears. She said Aretha Franklin is her idol . Great influence. Love her voice. 🤎🤎💕😊☺️
Not me watching this reaction back then and listening to this song yesterday thinking it's the first time I've ever heard it 😲 those vocals got me shooked again.
One of my all time favorite vocalist and she is due her flower...EVERY SINGLE ONE OF UM...And the dayum straight better give um to her before it's too late 💯 she carried oooon on this song. Sylvester knew exactly what he was doing finding Two Tons of Fun,he knew she was a rare gem 💎 so many ppl hear at (It's Raining Men) and take it for a joke without actually getting into those vocals. Martha is one of the greatest singers on earth 💯
Martha is the voice behind that 80s/90s Dj project Blackbox with them Mega global smash hits like "I don't know anybody else" ..."Fantasy"..."Right on Time" ...Please do a video on "i don't know anybody else" ...Martha's BEST RUNS ever on that dancetrack ❤❤❤❤
MW is one of Luthers, Princes, etc favorites!! SHE IS A BEAST!! The Keke Wyatt of her day with tinges of Aretha, Whitney, Denise Williams, Patty, EVERYONE!
Can you please react to "Same script, different cast" by Whitney Houston and Deborah Cox? Please and thank you very much. You really are missing a masterpiece if you didnt listen to that song before
Martha is amazing. Please check out her work with Sylvester in the late 70's. She, along with Izora Rhodes, were his background singers, known as Two Tons O' Fun, who later became The Weather Girls. If you can, listen to Sylvester's live album "Living Proof", they all are amazing on that, especially their version of "You Are My Friend". It's classic!!!
One of my favourite vocalist of all time, some of her other songs you should check out are Now that your gone, when it’s my heart and give it to you, she also has great vocals in The Weather Girls - land of the believer live and Gone away
Man it's from the singing duo Two tons o fun........ Martha Wash and Izora Armstead( R I P) I wish you all do these reaction videos get your info right Martha's singing has nothing to do with Aretha Franklin............. I appreciate that you love her singing but please the information right
this is an amazing song and Martha Wash is highly underrated. That being said this song, while it is actually Martha Wash singing, is actually from her group Two Ton's O' Fun, from the 1980 album of the same name. Now if you want another great song sung my Martha, check out The Weather Girls with: No one can love you more than me from their album Big girls don't cry. you will not be disappointed.
I’ve purchased this album when it first came out. One thing that stood out emotionally is that she sang it personally. You can hear it. From the range to what we all could relate to, very personal.
I still get chills. I wouldn’t compare her to Aretha Franklin though. Martha is unique and in a class by herself. He said “speechless”. Now listen to it again and again. Do yourself a favor and try to get your hands on their album, “Backatcha” (Not available AFAIK) Listen to “Cloudy With a Chance of Rain” and the country-tinged “I’ve Got To Make It on My Own”. You will be awed. An incredible vocalist.
This song was co-written by the legendary Sylvester whom she backed for years before this release with she and Alzora Rhodes under the moniker Two Tons of Fun.
She's in her own universe like 0:08 all the girls that you mentioned! So I guess this is your first time ever hearing her??? Please stop the comparison All of the girls that you mentioned they have their own stratosphere no comparison Aretha is Aretha and Martha Wash is Martha Wash remember that!
damn first celine dion-my way and then this, 2 of my personal favorite gems. Martha's voice is like the perfect blend of power and warmth just like whitney is. I think u'd also like gladys knight's version of 'the way we were' live (also Dolly Parton's version which is adorable), minnie riperton's "everytime he comes around" which i think is produced by Stevie Wonder and mina's"ancora ancora ancora"
