Martial Blade Concepts Volume 6
Featuring Michael D. Janich
www.staysafemedia.com/martial-...
The first rule of knife fighting is "have a knife." And while carrying a knife helps, you don't really have a knife until you have the skills to get it into action when you really need it. In Volume 6 of Michael Janich's acclaimed Martial Blade Concepts video series, you get those skills.
In the most comprehensive video of its kind, Janich leads you step by step through every aspect of the carry and high-speed deployment of defensive folding knives. First, he lays the foundation of your knife-opening skill by explaining the mechanics of one-handed openings and the advantages and disadvantages of thumb studs, disks, flippers, blade holes, assisted opening mechanisms, and the Emerson "Wave" opening feature. He then teaches you the most effective methods of manually opening your knife, including thumb openings, handle-swing openings, ring-finger openings, ultra-high-speed inertial openings, and the best tactics for use of the Emerson opener.
With that foundation set, Janich guides you through the various methods of carrying a tactical folding knife, providing little-known tips and tricks on tip-up and tip-down clip carry, pocket carry, inside-the-waistband carry, and belt-pouch carry. For those who operate in non-permissive environments, he also reveals numerous deep-concealment methods that enable you to keep your knife completely hidden, yet get it into action instantly.
Finally, Janich puts all the pieces together and presents detailed instruction in the mechanics of drawing your folder from various carry positions and instantly flowing into a high-speed opening-even during the chaos of a life-or-death street encounter. In the process, he reveals his personal secrets that enable him to draw and open a folding knife in one second or less.
No matter what system of knife tactics you practice, the ability to carry, draw, and deploy your blade quickly is critically important. The knowledge and skills presented in this video-along with sufficient practice-will ensure that you have that ability when you need it most.
For academic study only. Color, 1 hour 32 minutes.

I bought the instructional video about 14 years ago, and found it helpful. But I got more involved with muaythai, and lost the video. Glad you got it on youtube now.

The one time I needed to use my spyderco military for self defense the rush of adrenaline was so powerful I didn't trust myself to flick it open. Even though I had done it millions of times I had to very deliberately use two hands to open it.
@raydrexler5868
@raydrexler5868 Год назад
Using two hands to open the knife can be a good tactic. You have the ability to shove or grab at your opponent’s hand if they try and stop you. It’s usually better to frame him out with the other hand but you can put your off hand elbow between you

Never even heard of centrifugal opening before this. Didn't think it'd work with a short little spine lock at first but tried Mr. Janich's technique with my delica and, lo and behold, the dang thing snapped open.

Just because you have a knife to help protect you and even have the skills to use it doesn't mean you have the mind set to. A knife is a very personal protection device. Your right up in someone's face ready to really hurt them. I don't mean go put some ice on it hurt I mean go get stitches or ever a pine box kind of hurt. If you don't have that ability don't use a knife for protection. Cutting or stabbing someone is totally different then spraying them with pepper spray or shooting them with a gun. Very good video btw

Yeah a knife should not be your first line of defense. But in a life or death situation a knife would really help.

Sweet! I was stoked to see that Mr. Janich included his inertial draw in the promo vid. After ten minutes of practice I think I have it down. He described his method in a Personal Armament podcast, but it helps to see it.

Make sure you practice that draw so it works 10 out of 10 times. Cold hands. Wet hands. Time yourself and make sure you can deploy it and get in a ready stance within 1.5 seconds. Always keep the tip pointed at the opponent.

Great lesson. Very realistic this is the best draw deploy against a ambush attack. Great info although i flipped a folder open one time ATS-15 steel, it closed on tip of my index finger. Off with the finger very sharp. I advanced to Edc fixed w/holster (hardready). Quick!

Do you mean ATS-55 or ATS-35? 55 was proprietary for Spyderco. 35 was a "super steel" back in the day. Was it a Spyderco?

Even if your style of knife doesnt come with a trainer buy 2 knives if the same model and make one dull. Now you have a trainer. $$ but solves that problem.

Maybe a knife stashed like in the movie "From Dusk Till Dawn" dude with the crotch gun, would be tactical. With a tactical hip thrust the attacker can be rendered sterile.
