Thanks for sharing I found this interesting and well articulated. I like the terns used , soap boxers , gotcha guys and meta hounds, and no resolve for it , I'll probably use those terms. And I liked the stuff about wing chun for those reasons, the realistic environment training is very important, we did most of our learning to breakfall on grass , wooden floors and concrete. Spacial awareness is so important for effective self defence. Thanks again.☯️
There is something respectable about a lot of Chinese TMA just training in like… parks? Not only is it a bit more realistic in terms of setting, but I’ve always liked that culture of just being able to head to the local park and see teachers doing their thing. I’ve done some training like that, but am admittedly very spoiled by mats lol
1:39:50 what type of person would you want to be your student? Teaching brings many types of people with many persona's and physical abilities. Anyhow cool discussion and Handsome face!😅
A good question. Basically just people who are respectful to one another and willing to explore. Some of how all that would be set up is still kind of ambiguous to me. I think there would have to be some kind of structured basic curriculum for truly new students. Were I to hand out ranks (and I’m not sure I would), the “black belt” tests would probably involve demonstrating that you’ve made a technique or set of techniques your own, however. How that manifests, I’d need more time to think on. I think the main point, though, are people who aren’t jerks and are willing to learn. I’m not even sure I’d want to be “the” teacher necessarily. If we have skilled people from say, wrestling, Karate, Muay Thai, and then whatever I’m doing, I’d be fine with rotating instructors. We’d just have to make sure everyone is on the same page in terms of underlying goals. Admittedly, this probably is far from the most efficient way to design a training program. But basically I’m more interested in fostering a kind of “martial exchange” group as opposed to a super-structured true-blue training hall. But some structure is also probably necessary to keep things from spiraling into non-focus. I know kind of a wishy-washy answer, but hopefully that gets close to what you’re looking for. And thanks for the compliment on my face! I’ve somehow convinced my wife of the same thing, I think!
I don't want to rain on the parade but Jason was training with the Gracies before his ufc appearances and a lot of the combat aikido instructional material was repackaging what he learned from them.
Yeah, later I double checked the history on that, but still what he demonstrated in the dvd was fine, cool stuff, just goes to show that most of aikido locks are universal techniques just lower precentage ones
