This song is amazing. Lost my dad to lung disease caused by mining. So proud of you dad. This song always makes me cry. Proud of you dad and all miners. Your all amazing
+Annie Laing . Hi Annie. My condolences to you and your family over the loss of your dad. It was sad to hear of the last working mine closing in December 2015, it took hard working brave men to work in those conditions. I hope the year ahead brings you happier times. Thank you for your comments. Martin.
My great grandfather was a miner in Wrexham, My granddad was a miner in South Wales and so was his brother, And so was my father who passed away last November..
Our dad passed away 4 weeks ago. We had this at his funeral. Amazing voice and a very sad day but this song reminds me of my beloved dad. R.I.P DAD xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

+mineworker I use to play the Hatfield Club and Rossington miners around the mid eighties with a band call West Coast. Had some great nights. All the best .
Live in Nova Scotia.. The list of Men and Boys that lost their lives and limbs in these mines around here rivals the losses of the two wars that were fought. Incredible amount of folks received debilitating injuries in these mines...May they all rest in peace...
I am at a loss for words, this is the very best!!!!!! I am a 'Dam Biulder' in the 'diversion tunnels' a hard rock miner of over 50 years. "GOD" bless all the miners that we have lost to the mines. RIP> ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Dav.

This song has recently be used in a video about the memorial to Daw Mill here in north Warwickshire. I used to be able to see the winding gear from my bedroom window and you have never seen a pit top works demolished so quick the used it to fill the shafts. Four years on UK coal has gone bust and they want to build a container depot on the site. Thank you for this amazing version of this song

Nice Tune.... This was played at my girlfriends fathers funeral on his request upon his death. Was played on entry into the crem. He was a hard working man all his life even after losing his leg in a pit accident.
Still singing I hope, it would be a pity to lose a voice like that. Enjoy the borders. We used to live in Livingston for many years, but have come to Cyprus for the weather. First time I ever heard this song was on a cruise from Limassol, song by an ex Welsh minor. Like you, you could ever every single word. Hope you are well. If you decide to appear somewhere, please let me know. We are in Scotland for two weeks in November.
Are you still coming to Paphos. If so, we,d like to buy you a meal and a drink. We still play this song almost everyday. It'on in the car, on our tablets, on mp3 when walking the dog. Boring I know but when we like something we stick with it. Hope you are well.
I am now 76 years old now and worked 30 years in the mines, To put things straight it was Maggie Thatcher who forced the Miners strike, I would not P-ss on the woman if she was on fire
im sorry but im going to have to disagree with u,yes u lived that and went and worked down there but ur not seeing the bigger picture,u wanted to paid more money then u were digging out,but she supplied food parcels for u,it wasn't her fault, look at wot we have now to wot we did nowere days u get naf all. she gave us a lot and kept taxes low, school voucher have gone,u cant work cause u don't have enough money to pay rent, wen she was in charge everyone was treated the same, now the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer
Actually, the miners strike started in 1972, 7 years before Thatcher. At that time, you demanded a 43% pay rise and rejected the 7-8% offered. You picketed power stations and steel works and ports, and the NUM tried to stop the movement of ALL fuel supplies, which led to a state of emergency being declared, and a 3 day working week. You continually held the country to ransom, and if you added up all the costs including those of the national health service, mining was no longer a viable option when there were cheaper options available.
Hi Stephanie. Sorry for the delay in replying. Retired from tours just some local stuff these days, busy trying to improve my fiddle playing. Cheers Martin
