Mrs Merton was unique . Nothing else like it. Caroline Ahearne made it her own but she had a wonderful audience of genuinely nice people behind her who made it something else yet again. There was always a sadness at the end when it was announced that Annie or George had died. A wonderful show where well known people were willing to be teased. Nothing malicious and certainly nothing offensive. Sadly, this kind of show would never be commissioned today. Maybe tomorrow.
That may well be the best interview program I've ever seen. Martin Clunes has the opportunity to show just how clever he really is when answering these ridiculously funny questions. Wish I'd been able to see the whole series.
An IQ of 176 & so talented! Aherne wrote & acted in many great comedy shows; we were robbed by her too early death, but lucky to have her at all, RIP RIG 💜 x *For those who need it explaining: The TV audience being older is part of the joke...
I know the host is only pretending to be an older person, but Martin is only 35 about to turn 36 here I wonder where all the younger people are, amazing how Martin is pleasant to any audience. Martin said once in an interview that all sorts of people liked MBB.. He was really irresistable here, no wonder his wife said yes when he asked her to marry him that year. My favorite interview is in 2009, Digital Spy, one on one interview, green room, he is on a sofa talking about series 4. Gorgeous
When was this interview? Martin Clunes in those days was a bad boy. Sniffing cocaine for breakfast and drunk every night, according to his first wife Lucy Aston and by his own admission. He also started an affair with Phillipa, and married her soon after his divorce.
Good old British humour is dead today! killed by political correctness! Apart from the odd exception, comedy and TV in general has been sterile & phony since 2000 onwards. celeb this, reality crap that, Xfactor or love island? ugh! just effing ugh!! what bland, soulless times we live in today.
