I noirmally don't like the bright sound of taylor guitars. But wow, this AD27 not only has as much bass as the martin, it makes the Martin sound muffled since its so much clearer and better intonated. This might be the first Taylor I like. Its actually got alot of warmth lol. The Taylor wins here.

The particular Taylor was a straight up ringer after a string swap. The guitar sounded better than any other AD27 that I have picked up, even when compared to the second generation AD27s that are completely different than this one. I'm happy to say that this one went to a new home that takes good care of it and uses it to lead a praise ministry. Zero regrets about owning this one and I'm happy it went to a loving new home when I sold it.

@@guitarsandgears3948 theres also the ad22e I found out and I'm nto really sure what the difference is they both sound really good. I would actually prefer iether over the martin15 series. Put i'm poor and I already own 20 year old dx1 spruce top that still sounds good, bu8t high action. wanna get new guitar i can hopefully put a lower action on and right now i'm torn between a seagull s6 1982 collection reissue with the shorter scale length. or should I get a dreadnought jr. Just want a couch guitar but i'm really partial to a warm sound. don't really want a small boxy trebly sound. I'm thinking I should just get the dread jr streetmaster over the seagull s6 i fear the s6 will bee too bright and buzzy sounding for me. wish I could try them in person.

I've played a few Seagull acoustics, but never taken one home from a store with me. And it's not that they aren't good guitars. It's just that I have a really great 1986 Fender Newporter that I've had modified to have a bone nut and bridge that sounds so good that I cannot justify most inexpensive acoustics. If you're looking for a good couch guitar that isn't crazy expensive, go try a Taylor GS-Mini. We have a GS Mini-E Koa model that absolutely plays way above it's size and price. And they are all over the used market, so you can get a decent deal on one that someone probably just doesn't play anymore.

@@guitarsandgears3948 ya I was thinking of getting that or a drjr10 streetmaster. I ended up with a Martin D10-Sapele top since it was on sale and came with a nice martin hardcase. But I have to say I am disappointed. My Old 21 year old made in usa Martin DX1 has smooth edges, smooth neck edges and smoothed out frets and smooth tuners. The new higher end model with the D10 actually seems like much lower quality. There is also literally no saddle left just to get it under 7/64th and I can't dig into it like on my old guitar without the strings clacking against frets so its forcing me to improve my technique I guess. But man, I don't care what anybody says they are not making the guitars like they used to. one of the resons I didn't get the Drjr shortscale version is because of hearing everyone clacking the strings against the fret, that thing sounded almost unstrummable. I probably should of went with the taylor gs mini, but I'm a bass head. I got an all sapele dread that has a real colorful boom i love when picking. The Martin also has perfectly even frets unlike the alvarez and fender I tried, and It also doesn't smell like toxic chemicals. lol

Another thing I figured out after looking up the prices and background of the Taylor AD27 is that this one, which came to me in trade, is actually a 2020 model. So it is about a year and a half (or a bit less) old and has had the strings and bridge pins changed. The addition of the K&K Pure Mini would, I thought, make it slightly less resonant, but that does not seem to be the case. So the Taylor is a bit older and is also a bit more expensive than the Martin. I don't think that would sway my decision if I went in to buy one of these guitars in a music store. I think, even today, I would still choose the Taylor if they both sounded the way they do in this video. But I also chose the 810WMB back in 1998, when I went in to buy a Martin D28 and came out with a Taylor.

The Taylor bridge pins are rosewood pins ?

The Taylor bridge pins, from the factory, are black, but I do not think they are ebony. The ones that are currently on this guitar are ebony bridge pins. Look very similar, but are an upgrade, albeit an inexpensive one.

Both guitars are amazing, and as much as I love Taylor - if I had to pick one (At the same price or 150$ more) it will be the Martin D15 it's not D28 but it's a really good Martin

I am really interested in how different the Martin will sound as it breaks in. Because the Taylor, which I figured out is actually a 2020 model, is just over a year old and has had the bridge pins and strings changed. So when the Martin is a couple years old and has some new strings on it, I think we are definitely going to have to do another video to see how it has aged.

@guitarsandgears3948

Over time, the Taylor really did open up and come into its own. But I still liked the feel of the Martin better than the AD27, so I kept the Martin and let the AD27 go to a new owner who loves it way more than I ever did. The American Dream series is still, in my opinion, the best entry level Taylor you can buy. I would definitely choose it over the Mexican made Taylors, simply because it had a feel that was distinctively Taylor American made. That said, I'm seriously thinking about letting go of the Martin D15M because I feel like it's more of a novelty than a player for me. It fills a spot in collection, but does it really need to? I'm not sure anymore.

I have a 96 d-15 . The weird thing is that it came from Martin with a three piece back. Not like a 35. The back is in three matching straight panels. Form martin.

As a beginner guitarist would you share the first chord progressions and stum pattern. Sounds great and the Martin sounds richer and deeper.
@guitarsandgears3948
@guitarsandgears3948 2 года назад
The chord progression is Am-C-G-F twice, then F-C-Am-G-F-C-E. I'm playing a finger strumming pattern that basically is thumb down from A string, middle up from high E string, then alternating them back and forth, with the thumb only hitting the A and D strings, and the middle finger strumming up from the high E to the D string. Also, in the opening Am, I'm alternating the 1st fret B string (C note, then open B), which is why it sounds different than a normal Am. If you'd like to see it in slow motion, I can make a video of it and a couple of the other patterns that I use in these videos.

I first started learning chords about 30 years ago, but never really took the time to learn to play until about a year ago. It wasn't until after I started this channel that I really sat down and took the time to practice like I should. I've always loved the guitar but it just wasn't something I took seriously until I retired and had time to actually focus on it.

I love the way the Martin sounds. It is, by far, the best sounding Martin D15M I have ever picked up. But the AD27 just has something about it that I cannot put down. It is the same thing that drew me to the 810WMB when I went into Strait Music Company to buy a Martin D28 back in 1998. And I'm happy to have the D15M, but the AD27 will always be my first choice between these two guitars. Probably because I'm a strummer more than I am a flat picker.
@rmzzz76
@rmzzz76 2 года назад
Never was a fan of the D15m, the 000-15m is excellent. To my ears Taylor guitars lack a certain depth to the tone, they have less character and this video is just another one where I'm hearing that lack of character when put up against a similar spec Martin. Gibson's also have much more character/fuller tone. I'm not saying they sound bad, just a little less definition unplugged and a bit more overall balance. So that could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on what you're looking for. I think the Taylor's are a dream to play, they feel very good in the hands and when playing live with a pickup into PA or amp those nuanced differences are mostly lost anyway, so I'd probably use a Taylor for stage use but a Martin when unplugged playing by myself or with a small group of friends.

@guitarsandgears3948 2 года назад
In my opinion, the Martin might actually have the edge in this one. The AD27 is an amazing guitar and the sound quality is unmistakably Taylor. But there's something about this D15M that just feels right. And I'm not sure if it's just THIS ONE, or if it's all of them now. `If you can find both of them at a guitar store, you should definitely pick them up and hold them, as individual feel is kind of subjective and some guitars will just feel better made than others.

I heard someone once say that, in general, on a Taylor guitar you hear the strings more, and on a Martin you hear the wood more. I think I agree with that. Nearly every Taylor I've heard or played has a certain metallic brightness to the tone. Martins tend to be full and woody sounding imo. I hear that difference here too. Both guitars sound great, but I just ultimately don't like that metallic aspect in the Taylor's tone. It reminds me of a dulcimer. I don't hate dulcimers per say, but they aren't really my jam.

I love my Gibsons and enjoy my Martin and Fender. But my Taylor guitars are what I'm going to choose pretty much every time if I'm in the mood to just play. Nothing specific, nothing plugged in or performing, just pick the guitar up and play. And it's almost exclusively because they are so easy to play.
