Martin, the best of the best tone wise. There might be builders like Collings that do cleaner builds, but they won't have that sound. Nothing touches a Martin imo

@@Tzadeck as it should. How much for a new D-18? Can a D-16 handle medium strings? I know that the D-15 is a guitar that is not meant to be set up with mediums per Martin's recommendations. If martin were honest, every one of the guitars they sell would come with a rod tool.

@@openpalmjustice A D-18, I think, sounds better than any other guitar in that price range. Compare a D-18 to a J-45 or a similarly priced Taylor, for example, and the D-18 will usually win. So, for the quality I think the price is fair. Granted, sometimes you see nice Eastman or Larivee guitars that are high quality but priced a bit cheaper than a D-18. I'm not sure what you're on about when it comes to the medium strings. There are acoustic guitars that can't handle medium strings, but it usually means the construction is lighter, which has its own advantages. It's not 'better' for an instrument to be able to handle medium strings, and it's up to the musician to decide what they need for the sound they want.
