There's a difference between the way that Jackson tells a story, and the way Tolkien does it. Freeman nailed it, he'll always make it about the characters, but what I love about Tolkien is that the characters almost feel secondary, they just live in this world that Tolkien's made.

Tolkien and rr martin. They tend to put the plot/story first and that ends up making it feel as though characters are objects stuck in a game. It sometimes feel that a couple characters haven't been given justice just for the sake of plot.

I'm glad that Martin is opening up more about his personal life a little bit, and I'm not saying that because I'm a fan and wish to know about his family, I'm saying that because, it's difficult to see an actor you like be defensive about a lot when asked certain questions. I mean a year ago, regarding his kids, he'd say, "None of your fucking business," whereas here, he's answering like no problem, "6 and 9."

EdHead1974 I do have a heart and I do love children and I've been raised in a big family and I will have children one day. I just think there's too much importance given to the actors' private lives in talk shows - especially Ellen, whom I love - today. Congratulations on your new baby, alright... But in this context Jimmy makes no sense at all. Being applauded for having children ? Come on. He came to talk about his film. Graham Norton does not do that in the UK and we don't either in France.

EdHead1974 As a French, I am also trying hard to understand why Americans need to cry over love and feelings all the time. I love my family, they know it, we don't feel like we have to cry and go "awwww" because we love each other. In the end, the whole thing gets really cheesy. But that's my opinion and it doesn't mean there aren't a lot of things I love in American culture :)

I always heard French people had trouble showing emotion, but I never believed it until now. While I agree applauding for having older children is kind of weird, having an emotional connection to family is not "cheesy." I love my family, too, but we don't cry when we say I love you. I don't know where you heard that myth, but it's not true. If you're just basing it off of American television, you're misinformed. While some families can be over-emotional, most are not. Just like the rest of the world, Americans love their families and would do anything for them. And if it prompts tears, so be it. It only means that we love each other that much more. Showing emotion does not make you any less of a person; it makes you human. :)

I don't agree at all. Grrm does not have the epic battles and adventure that Tolkien has. I feel that asoiaf is a more modern epic Shakespearean type of series. I like asoiaf a lot but he concentrates on too many viewpoints that the general public really could care less about.
