Martin Heidegger is arguably the most important philosopher in the past 150 years or so. Being and Time completely transformed the collective thinking around thought, existence, and our conception of time and it's relation to the human condition. He threw a wrench right in the middle of modern, enlightenment era thinkers, and their practice of ontology. He transformed the backdrop in which we analyze philosophy forever.
This is the first video in a three part series over Heidegger.

I've subsequently read that the young Heidegger embodied the trait of being "stunned" by everything he encountered, by the "mystery" of life; that he walked in a state of "being with" as opposed to being a mere "observer." He was like our great poets, for example, Wordsworth. What "was," what "is," is the view itself. The phenomena itself. And so, his dedicating his great book to Husserl.

Heidegger dealt with a human being from a functional perspective; that is, he considered that which a human being "is" is most primordially that which a human being is up to, or, you could say, a human being most importantly "is" that human being's purpose, or, as Heidegger would say (in translation) a human being is best described in terms of that which a human being "cares about." When considered from this perspective, not only the human being, but everything that exists, shows up in terms of that which the human being cares about. You can contrast this to a lot of other descriptions of a human being: an academic description, an analytic/diagnostic description, or a linguistic description. If what you want out of life is what you want out of life, these descriptions tend to be impotent. Heidegger's more functional description goes right to the heart of human functionality, and thus, human productivity, and human empowerment. That's why it's received so much attention. BUT Heidegger's philosophy had a serious deficit. Reduced to it's bottom line, it's about how to get what you want out of life, but it completely ignores what you should want to get.

You did a fabulous job not to sound too inauthentic, but you really did. I loved it! You will find the concept of "interbeing" in Buddhism (especially as explained by Thich Nhat Hanh) to be exactly the same as Heidegger. When I was five, I had a mystical experience of the shattering of self into the vastness of the cosmos, of being the cosmos. When my individual self reassembled, I felt this little consciousness didn't need to worry about anything because this "I" was all over the place.
