"Sometimes when it all comes together ... you become the film you’re making." - Martin Scorsese in 1990, as told to T.J. English.
In this new episode we have a previously unheard conversation with legendary director, Martin Scorsese, on how he's framed his movies and his life. The early foray into making a movie as a kid, toying with becoming a priest, and where his parents fit into all this. And wouldn't you like to see a Scorsese Western? Enjoy!

@Corpsefoot Gaming Interesting. I don’t know a lot about him, but I have heard of Tokyo Story. I know that in Japan, Tokyo Story is the best film ever made, even more so than Citizen Kane, which is quite an accomplishment. I’m not sure if that’s the specific work you refer to, but I can understand what you mean, even though I have never watched any of his films. 😅 I am lacking a little in the foreign-language film department, compared to my knowledge of American cinema.

@johnnymarin5035
@johnnymarin5035 3 года назад
@@obamaspaghettitoiletsauce9150 yeah this is true but Travis is literally a western satire. At least this is the case when Scorcese put him on film. He's bases on John Wayne's characters in the famous western "The Searchers". Travis is pretty much a modern cowboy with his sensibilities and his code of honor that compels him to do the things that he does, rescuing damsels in distress and what not, despite the fact that they, and the world didn't ask him to do it. Instead they reject this mentality. Scorcese rejects that mentality and tries to dissect it for what it is. This is the basis for Travis Bickle. Good day sir.

One of the things I like about the westerns, besides the beautiful settings, is that you can make your hero do impressive "heroic" things without the morality of good or bad attached to it. He just does those things because he does them.

@Corpsefoot Gaming not a cop-out; the point. What difference does it make if you can read the mind of greed? What motivation makes greed heroic? And why would heroism be required? If you can't answer that, then you're starting to get westerns.
@MountedDragoon
@MountedDragoon 3 года назад
@Corpsefoot Gaming and? In Westerns, the author's intent is often to have characters imitate heroism without being heroic. Not always, but often enough to be a feature of the genre. So what exactly is the disagreement or point here? How is acknowledging a trope a cop-out? Do you understand that by western, I mean cowboys and not Europeans?
