I really like your approach of first releasing small clips from Jonathan Pageau and Martin Shaw, fascinating insights by both of them. I am highly anticipating the full conversations! Great work sir!

"You're not allowed to say 'this is the way' anymore" Was Paul, or Peter, or anyone else in the first couple of centuries 'allowed' that? No, we're free to say it, and we should say it with the confidence that comes from looking at present-day social disasters, and being able to point out why Chesterton's Fence was there in the first place.

Thanks for this introduction to Martin Shaw. I’ve looked at several videos with him now and he’s very very interesting, (sort of in a similar vein to Paul Kingsnorth.)Through Martin I have also discovered a wonderful man named Malcolm Guite who also has a RU-vid channel. Thank you. 🙏

Been there, done that. Stood on the Areopagus in 1983. Stood in theater of Ephesus too. Back then, I visited Nikos Kazantzakis' grave ... because I love Zorba the Greek.

I think I’ve seen some of the metamodernists pretty much say they want a religion around the unknown god!

Wow! Martin Shaw is the man! Try his Substack, too! He is well-earthed, therefore I can follow his thoughts much better than Pageau's. .

Whilst we are to bio-logically steward the ecosystem through forms of memorial celebration that causes a flourishing of all kinds of expression such as cups of tea, there is a tendancy in the English speaking world to overromantasise our relationship with God who is obviously Jesus who is obviously King of kings; an obviousness which should result in our obeying Him by honouring everyone through a consideration of their perspective and a responsible bio-logical response; I'm happy to call that one way.

I disagree with Martin -- I think one can easily get the sense that the Gospel of Mark is contrived, albeit as he noted the Gospel has a certain character that seems to have been designed to appeal to a target audience that was Roman particularly, and it's reputation for a culture of doers, builders, warriors, and administrators. Believers just think it was the Holy Spirit doing the contriving.

I thought Mark has been symbolized as a lion and the theme is to show the messiah, the lion of the tribe of Judah. More of a conquering king and on the move as was stated in the clip.
@bscottc1
@bscottc1 5 месяцев назад
@@TheDrb27 The Lion is not a symbol for Mark, but rather Marks Gospel (maybe this what you meant?). It symbolizes the attributes of his gospel that focus on Christ the King - the Lion of the Tribe of Judah. The line of King David. In other words someone a Roman could respect for his power and status -- not the lowly subjugated Jew. To be clear, these are not my ideas, although having read the Gospels many times as well as early Church and ancient history and the Church fathers, I do agree with the Commentaries on this. So we seem to agree. What I disagreed with Martin on was whether one could believe the Gospels were contrived.

@@bscottc1 I thought the Lion from the tetramorph was used before the Gospel of Mark was called that.
@bscottc1
@bscottc1 5 месяцев назад
@@TheDrb27 Indeed, I agree with this view also, and it goes to why I think the Gospel is contrived. The tetramorph as associated with the book of Mark most likely points back to the book of Ezekiel and the time of the Babylonian captivity. The writers of the codex later defined into the book of Ezekiel borrowed the Babylonian zodiac tetramorph to show that YHWH was not defeated and gathered his people back to Jerusalem, just as Jesus rose from the dead (Christus Victor).
@TheDrb27
@TheDrb27 5 месяцев назад
@@bscottc1 I think where you are seeing the story as contrived, I’m seeing it as an integration. I also see the tetramorph as an integrated view of the seeing the world through the four elements. That view is older than just Babylon as well.
