You can only admire him for putting his family first....and passing up such a huge opportunity, not to mention the money he passed up. He doesn’t have to worry.... he’s so talented he knows lots of other things will come his way !
I'm a huge fan of Martin Short, Mel Brooks, Nathan Lane, and Mathew Broderick! To here that Martin was asked to play Leo on Broadway and turned it down breaks my heart. O well family comes first! Nathan and Martin need to be in a show together very soon!
This couldn’t have been easy for Martin to talk about. In hindsight it was the best possible decision he could have made, time is something you never get back. And he also saved himself from the pain of regret for the sake of success and ego gratification.
From what I heard, Martin was not just offered the role of Leo in The Producers. He was the very very first person who was ever offered a role in the show. Even before Nathan and Matthew were even thought of.
Ugh, I'm so sad to hear this. I saw Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick in The Producers on Broadway. Nathan Lane was amazing, of course. Matthew Broderick stunk up the stage and nearly ruined the entire experience. He hasn't been a good actor since about 1996.
I dunno. I saw it 3x w him in the role and he was fantastic. Half the time he was actually a bigger hit w the audience than even Nathan lane- whose character is meant to be much more of the comedic role. Guess everyone’s taste is different though. To each his own ☺️. Luckily he did play the part eventually. There’s a couple clips of it on YT available actually. Did it alongside Jason Alexander.
