Calgary did not trade him. The GM (Al Coates) was fired and the new GM Craig Button had no interest in retaining St. Louis. He was left exposed in the 2000 NHL draft, went unselected, and Calgary actually bought out his contract. He then signed with Tampa as a UFA.
