They soon forget that Martin wrote the characters himself. No one came and asked him to do it. All those characters he played, he himself created them. I remember in the '00s, BP were complaining about the hood movies of the '90s, but I saw those films as art and really in depth portrayals of the hood life and the human condition, particularly with Boyz N the Hood and Menace II Society... the so-called "positive" movies that BP put out since the millennium started aren't really all that positive to me, because it shows debauchery, infidelity, betrayal, uppityness, family infighting, violations against children, etc.. There's just less "bodies" being left on the ground, so to the respectability politics Ebony/Essence crowd, that means "more positive." I disagree and those movies just aren't great cinema, either.

In LA, we had LA GEAR (it was in other states too but it's from LA). That was huge back in the day but the company went under but the guy that created it later created Skechers... so sometimes you can revamp or change but it takes a dedication where you're only doing that and nothing else.
