Unbelievable, Jennifer Capriati after being the teenage genius and being billed as the new tennis superstar, she fell from almost the top in that shoplifting and drug arrest and after many years she remade herself and came back to win several Grand Slams and many other tournaments and became number 1 in the world, wonderful Jennifer Capriati!!

What an amazing match by both players, powerful ground strokes , long rallies and no excessive grunting ! Kudos to these two champions

6 straight ao finals by hingis was amazing. But ıt's sad she lost last 3 finals. After 99 rg final, she was never had same mentally.

right? 2002 was brutal I remember cause I was 10 and she was my favorite player at the time, I thought she had it won for sure

Technically as well, after 99 she changed her forehand, it became more topspin than flat and lost speed on it. The serve lost the bite it had from time to time

Her game got outdated as power players finally hit prime. Mentally is the last excuse. She was just not good enough

Even though Hingis lost due to a brilliant match by Capriati, you could see how Hingis still absorbed power well and her groundies including her forehand were very deep. Later on in her career, her forehand in particular got weaker and shorter and she seemed to loose power and aggressiveness. She was never the same after her foot issue except in doubles.

Jennifer’s forehand that tournament 😍😍 She totally deserved to win this tournament beating Hingis, Davenport and Seles back to back all with her good play. Physically this is Jen at her best too. The best highlights of this particular match on RU-vid! The score line may be one sided but it was a little closer than that and these highlights make justice to that. Thank you!

with being 5-0 in head to head , Hingis thought she had the trophy already before the match after beating both Wiliiams sisters.

@@olaraayCapriati can thank her lucky stars that Hingis' tank was empty after beating Venus and Serena back to back.

Capriati was in such great shape at this time and completely outplayed Hingis, which was hard to do

Hingis scored back to back wins against the Sisters and still couldn't lift the trophy. A tough pill to swallow but it showed the kind of uphill battles she was facing to win another slam

Grandísimo y merecido Triunfo 😍para Capriati después de un Tormentoso pasado. (" los Sueños se convierten en realidad si Crees en ti " Comentaba Jenifer después de Ganar. 🏆

It's a pity Hingis' tank was empty after beating Serena and Venus back to back. The match against Serena in particular ranks as one of the top 3 ever women's matches at the Australian Open. At least.

ppl keep saying hingis career hit the tank cuz of lack of power. i see plenty power here, she strikes the ball above medium here, more than radwanska i think

Capriati looking so fit and aggressive. If she were in this good of shape and going for her shots like this in the big moments more often she would have won another 2-3 majors. Her forehand here was scary good!

I never noticed this at the time, but you see that Martina started hitting her backhand with an open stance (like the Williamses) and when she is moving and forced to hit more instinctively, she still hits with the closed stance. Those backhands actually seem to be more effective than the open stance. This may have been a mistake that cost her some GSs

hingis varies her games a lot, lob, drop shot, sharp angles etc. most players who lost to her just depended on the same pattern, & she was quick to read them. Besides, she didnt wait a long time to change the direction of the ball. her confident was amazing. sad, she was born not to appreciate her opponent like some other players. too intelligence could outweigh your humility.

Jennifer capriarti won a great match and deserves everything after a falling from grace after to much attention was put on her to succeed as child prodigy she was put under enormous pressure by her father her country and the press I'm so glad she succeeded she was a very humble human being and I'm a huge fan of hers she was so talented and amazing and a very stunningly attractive young lady love Anthony Fed ex lol

Jennifer’s game sure wasn’t pretty, but it was effective. Hingis’ days of winning singles major titles was over at this point in her career as Serena and Venus took over the #1 and #2 rankings in the world. Capriati was expecting a hug from Hingis at the end of this match, and Martina was like, “Nah, a handshake is good enough for you!” 😂🤣😂

I beg to disagree regarding the No.1 ranking. hingis was still ranked No.1 in the world until October 2001 when she abrubtly ended her season because of her first ankle injury. She returned to action during the AO 2002 ranked 4 in the world and clinched another finals down under.

And? She became irrelavent to win slams. Coulda would don't count. She had lost to Venus in last two slams. And by us open 2001. Serena destroyed her in Miami. That she had to retire as she couldn't beat 2002 serena with her powerless game@@fundhund62

Capriaiti is not even that much of a power player
@ManSizeSextet
@ManSizeSextet 3 года назад
She really became more of an aggressive counter puncher in the second half of her career (moreso in 03 and 04) but it paid dividends with three slams. In the 90s and especially her duels with Monica, she was more of a ball basher.
@mikeg8375
@mikeg8375 3 года назад
She was much more patient in terms of when she went for super powerful shots, but when she did go for them they were as big as anyones... she just didn't go after her shots enough especially after 2002
@cupidslover3
@cupidslover3 Год назад
She could be very powerful on her day but I would say was a level below Davenport, Williams, Pierce, Seles. It was a lot of arm which is why I think her shoulder gave up on her. Having said that she was a phenomenal aggressive counterpuncher and could be incredibly consistent. She was certainly very tough to beat and one of the few players Serena struggled with in her prime.
@olaraay
@olaraay Год назад
@@cupidslover3 its funny how match ups are key factors, capriati head to head with venus and davenport is awful yet her head to head with serena was ok, u would think serena would be the hardest to beat
