If I place them in terms of Megadeth, then he'd be my absolute favorite guitarist, but if I pull them outside that context, just as players alone, I'll take Al Pitrelli over all of them, followed by Poland.

Japan is literally the cleanest country on the planet, also the foods there are healthy I also think marty eats a vegan routine, that's why he's skin is so bright and somewhat looks young
They were perfect, dave's melodic heavy riffs combine with marty's exotic arpeggios, that's what made megadeth so unique that was the best lineup early 90s megadeth was the bomb

A very cool dude. Love that he plays those songs still and with the same attitude he had when he was a kid picking up guitar for the first time. Doesnt get more honest than that as a player.
To hear a great guitar player talking about times when he was learning and struggling with certain things is inspiring to keep on playing even when you're beating your head against a wall trying to learn X, Y, or Z passage or techniques. You just got to keep playing and remember how much we love guitar 😊
That was really cool. I'm glad he mentioned the metal riffs that have so many minor changes throughout the songs,I admire how these bands remember it all particularly when it's really subtle. How Dave Mustaine can sing and play those intricate guitar parts simultaneously is amazing, although you could say the same for Geddy Lee and a few others. Great video
He's a laid-back type of guy, im surprised he went along good with dave mustaine in the early years considering that people said that dave had a douchebag personality/thinks he's the best than others and had anger issues but they turned out pretty well, always remember one does not survive the mustaine business, and he actually survived it... Until the breadline solo, years later junior got fired too.
I get a kick out of the fact Marty struggled with some Johnny Ramone riff while many of the rest of us would not even attempt to play some of the things he has played over the years.
I went through classical with nylon strings and never got very far. Went to jazz guitar and got stuck in boxes. These are the notes in the first position, this week 2nd position, 3rd week 3rd position. I gave up. Then metal broke out with metallica and van halen and I then realized get out of the box. But when Marty came along I was blown away. This guy hits more notes than the guitar has.
One thing you learn from watching thrash metal guitarists talk about their influences is that Kiss is single-handedly the most underappreciated band in the history of rock and metal. I don’t think I’ve ever seen an 80s metal guitarist not give them huge praise.
"My finger just would not hold down the string, and it hurt so incredibly bad, that I'm like 'Well, I guess I'm not cut out for guitar because there's no way my finger can do it.'" A sentiment every beginner has had - just focus on other stuff, then come back to what's giving you trouble and you might just find it's easy. If not, keep focusing on other stuff and come back to it. Repeat as necessary.
Marty, I was a 19 y/o AF guy at Hickam and saw you at a school auditorium show where the power went out. You continued to play despite loss of stage lights and sound. Amazing!!! I also bumped into you at Music Mac and Easy music center. Love your Megadeth stuff esp Train of Consequences!! Peace man, Doug.
I love Marty - always entertaining, and one of my favorite guitarists. I got into guitar because I saw Marty live on the Rust in Peace tour and stood amazed he played those solos note for note, 20 feet from my eyes. 30 years later, and I still can't play those super fast sweep/arpeggios - you know, the techniques Marty says he never trained to play, but can play flawlessly at 220 bpm. The guy is a prodigy.
Marty will be late for his gig tonight as he is experiencing delays... I really like the fact that Marty highlights so many great female guitarists from Japan on Rock Fujiyama, including Li-sa-X, Sakura Yoshida, and my favorite, Hal-Ca of Asterism. 🎸
Ah yes, the A-form barre chord. Glad to know I wasn't the only one who felt it was impossible. Took me a whole summer to get it down. There's no other way to play the Ramones authentically, so it had to be done!
Marty was always my favorite metal guitarist. I look at his solos on the Rust in Peace album like he looks at Ace Frehly's solos. Especially Hangar 18. Jesus he's so melodic.
As far as the Runways playing that riff a little different each time, In all due respect; I think it came out of being young and a lil' sloppy cause I use to do that too(& still do! sometimes)haha. But that's cool Marty, I didn't know you were a Ramones & Runaways fan.
