Unbelievable live performance. No tricks, no gimmicks, no "enhanced" vocals, just sheer talent. Love Marty's guitar playing and his singing is exquisite. Super trio harmonies and what else do you want?!!!!
@daveweed2765
@daveweed2765 2 года назад
Not as simple. This was a staged performance on film. Marty Robbins is not playing the Mexican Guitar and I have serious doubts he is actually singing. There are just not enough live action and it sounds exactly like the recorded track. I'm just saying because I play guitar and nothing live from music to vocals ever sounds exactly the same as the recorded track that you here on the radio or albums. On this song clearly Marty Robbins is playing rythem guitar and making a show of it for the Camara. Then you have the Mexican or Spanish guitar with individual notes playing the lead. Just watch it and listen again. Not to mention the lead sounds more like softer sounds of vinyl strings instead of metal.
@rayray8687
@rayray8687 2 года назад
@@daveweed2765: You might play the guitar but I have worked in the music business for several decades as a writer, performer, singer and musician and have been involved in video production, editing and arranging and I can assure you this video is NOT lip-synched to the original recording - in fact it doesn’t sound anything like it in terms of either vocal or instrumental tonality. Anyone experienced in music production can see at a glance that this is a genuine live performance, something Mr Robbins was extremely good at. And btw, the guitar off screen in this video is normally described as a Spanish guitar or a classical guitar and the strings are made of nylon, not vinyl.

I’m a metal fan… But there is something amazing about this whole album. It tells stories in a way none of the progressive metal songs I like could. You see these stories in your head. They play like short films in your mind as you listen. I adore this kind of songwriting. No hidden meanings, no overly complex stuff. Just pure storytelling.

How I miss real country music, like Marty Robbins, Merle Haggard, George Jones, Johnny Cash, to name a few. El Paso is an amazing song, written and sung by amazing Marty Robbins. It's so sad to lose so many of the great singers of the 60's, 70's and 80's. I'm not really into today's country music; it's just the not the same. I also love "My Woman, My Woman, My Wife." Nowadays it is difficult to find a version of this song that includes the 5th verse. Dunno why it has been dropped, but having grown up with this song, it really destroys it by making the cowboy seen callous when the 5th verse is his horror at what he just did. I REALLY appreciate this video. One of the best from a master of the cowboy ballad. We miss you Marty.

It was dropped to shorten the length of the song. Columbia records shortened the length because most stations liked a song to be no more than 3 min long. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_Paso_(song)

"El Paso" Out in the West Texas town of El Paso I fell in love with a Mexican girl Nighttime would find me in Rosa's cantina Music would play and Felina would whirl Blacker than night were the eyes of Felina Wicked and evil while casting a spell My love was deep for this Mexican maiden I was in love but in vain, I could tell One night a wild young cowboy came in Wild as the West Texas wind Dashing and daring, a drink he was sharing With wicked Felina, the girl that I loved So in anger I Challenged his right for the love of this maiden Down went his hand for the gun that he wore My challenge was answered in less than a heartbeat The handsome young stranger lay dead on the floor Just for a moment I stood there in silence Shocked by the foul evil deed I had done Many thoughts raced through my mind as I stood there I had but one chance and that was to run Out through the back door of Rosa's I ran Out where the horses were tied I caught a good one, it looked like it could run Up on its back and away I did ride Just as fast as I Could from the West Texas town of El Paso Out to the badlands of New Mexico Back in El Paso my life would be worthless Everything's gone in life; nothing is left It's been so long since I've seen the young maiden My love is stronger than my fear of death I saddled up and away I did go Riding alone in the dark Maybe tomorrow, a bullet may find me Tonight nothing's worse than this pain in my heart And at last here I Am on the hill overlooking El Paso I can see Rosa's cantina below My love is strong and it pushes me onward Down off the hill to Felina I go Off to my right I see five mounted cowboys Off to my left ride a dozen or more Shouting and shooting, I can't let them catch me I have to make it to Rosa's back door Something is dreadfully wrong for I feel A deep burning pain in my side Though I am trying to stay in the saddle I'm getting weary, unable to ride But my love for Felina is strong and I rise where I've fallen Though I am weary I can't stop to rest I see the white puff of smoke from the rifle I feel the bullet go deep in my chest From out of nowhere Felina has found me Kissing my cheek as she kneels by my side Cradled by two loving arms that I'll die for One little kiss and Felina, goodbye

I learned to play it on my guitar and played it for him on his 70th birthday 2 years before he died in March of 2000. He sang it with me. I'm 70 now! Great memories.
