Man , nothing but pure knocking it in the ass troubadours getting it done in exceptional fashion ! Country , bluegrass , rock and roll , blues , gospel ... thank you Marty music is all relative !
I've loved this song since first time I heard ! One of my Uncle's had been teaching me a little guitar one day he said son go fetch me that little case from beside my bed. I'd never seen anything but the case no idea what was in it so I jumped my little rump up to fetch it. He handed me that big huge red Gibson ES 335 boy what a day of firsts I'd never got to hold sweet thing before. I finally got to holding in a way I could try playing he said remember that tune I been showing you start working on it on sweet thing. When he opened the little case and pulled out the prettiest weirdest little guitar. I was trying to make the chords on his guitar but then I recognized he had a mandolin he touched the strings a few times nodded his head at me and count it off a start her up I'm gonna jump in another first for me , so I started the chord progression he'd been teaching me for awhile. When he jumped in with the mandolin and started singing I heard the Orange Blossom Special for the first time. I reckon I was about 8yr old so that was 55 years ago and I still get chills up my back then for some reason I get tears in my eyes. Sure miss my Uncle's something fierce they were working men that loved to get together if Momma and my Aunt's were around it was Gospel music but say if we were camping and fishing or hunting. "Those tools of good music" were brung out and they taught me old Irish or our mountain music or country music they loved Ernest Tub songs. Dang I got sumthin in my eyes..
Thanks so much for posting this. I was so disappointed that I had to miss this, since I only live 5 minutes from the Beacon, and because Marty Stuart and his Fabulous Superlatives are my favorite country band, Period! My favorite is Apostle Paul Martin. As always, they were incomparable, and they are the reason real country music still lives on.
Saw them at Drury College in Springfield, MO 2-25-15 -a fabulous show and very well received by all ages. Merle Haggard was there too and awesome as usual.
My favorite band, singers and TV show...Marty Staurt has his own brand of music, it may not be for everybody, but there is a large segment of people who love his music. You don't like it....there's lots of other choices so move on...Marty has been having a bad hair day the past 35 years....but at least he has hair.
