You know Marty Stuart is so gracious and so talented. Any of his shows are just a joy to behold. And Johnny Rivers I've loved you since back in the day! GREAT SHOW!!!
His performing gets most of the attention, but he also had a huge run of success as a producer, bringing The Fifth Dimension and Jimmy Webb to the public.
Johnny still has the great voice. Playing with Marty and his band, they have created the best version of "Poor Side of Town". Fabulous! This sounds better than 90% of the new music coming out anymore.Don't worry, Johnny, you are in many people's Hall of Fame.
It's pure talent, without egos getting in the way. When musicians all pull together in the same direction, amazing things can happen. God bless the real players, they do make a joyful noise unto the Lord (translation for the non-believers: they kick mother f-in ass).
Bruce Riley Totally agree. He will always be the greatest cover artist in the history of rock. On top of that, his covers matched or at times even exceeded the originals.
Johnny Rivers is astonishing, this version of The Poor Side Of Town is better than the original. Seen so many legends fade, it's criminal that he's not a huge star still with his warm, wistful voice.
I think Johnny would have managed it fine like many others have done, but then I think huge success has ruined many and even killed a few. I think what we have go with Johnny has been great the way it played out. And you know even if Johnny doesn't realize how many fans and appreciation he has it sure seems like he has and does truly enjoy what he has and is doing, and that is the most important part.
Thanks Lester. Could never get enough of Johnny Rivers. It is a travesty that he was never inducted into the Rock "N Roll Hall of Fame. He is a genuine talent, on the scene for nearly 50 years!
i do and i have figured out why ....jr vibe/sound/no matter what genre is better than taking every "provensupplement" in the whole world. "Geritol for our generation" and this Stuart gi=uy
"Summer Rain" is probably one of the five best American songs ever and its is one of the most underated songs. "Summer Rain" actually gains in popularity every year. Rivers has a voice that stokes up emotions and can capture magic in all songs that he does.....
Well said Dale, will add that his guitar playing is so under rated when you consider that back in the day, he was singing and smiling into the camera at the same time. You don't hear many major 7ths or augmented chords these days either.
@@paulbillingham6769 Really interesting. He waited around after his show at Camel Rock Casino near Santa Fe, NM and signed everyone's autograph that wanted it....He was a complete gentleman. No arrogance, very nice guy.
@@themainstreetremedy6146 He did the same thing in Nashville 4 years ago! Must have been 750 people in line. He signed everyone's album, poster, etc. and had one of his staff members take photos while he posed with every fan.
Yep I'm just listened to it twice in a row. Haven't heard it in a long time and I forgot how good it is. I've always loved the song rain by Jose feliciano but it's way too short. He should have made it three times as long. Also rain by Uriah heep.
Johnny's always been one of my favorites. Of course I love his Whisky A Go Go stuff, but if you like Poor Side Of Town, I really recommend that you check out all of the Rewind album. It is one end to the other all great songs. He covered a lot of songs in his career, but no one does 'em like Johnny does. He still performs and does a lot of great guitarin'. And who cares about hall of fames. They are all more problems than they are worth. We all have our own favortites. God's got Johnny's spot in his HOF one day.
I love his music. I think that "Realization" is one of the greatest albums ever recorded. Plus, Johnny Rivers recorded the Fifth Dimension and Al Wilson on his Soul City record label.
Fantastic show! Johnny Rivers is as great as ever. I love his voice, guitar playing and songs. A big influence to me and so many others. He deserves so much more recognition!
I saw Johnny Rivers a haft dozen times or more in my 20s back in the 70s he was playing every free show in the Washington State Parks around the Seattle area usually put on by the Rainier Beer Brewing Co. Local radio Stations and the bigger night clubs, a great show every time , he also played lead guitar on every song , an excellent guitar player ,it was legal to drink alcohol in the state parks back in those hippie days , they always had kegs of beer , , ,
Great legendary performer. Johnny has done some of my favorite music my entire life. A voice like Roy Orbison...an excellent entertainer like Elvis. Rivers is an American treasure....Such a wonderful singer and rock star...Johnny helped give rock radio stations their Golden Age with his songs. He is really one of the best ever.
I’ve seen Johnny twice at Billy Bob’s Texas back in the early 2000’s. He always puts on a good show and is one of the nicest guys you may meet. He always hangs out at the end of his show and sins autographs and chats with fans. Great guy.
Saw this in re-runs on RFDTV yesterday. I loved the quote from "Secret Agent Man" at the beginning of the outro. Johnny was definitely checking out Cousin Kenny's action on that. Marty Stuart is just the coolest human on the planet.
Marty's great as ever, but so is Johnny Rivers ....He's so underrated: that it's really unbelievable. A R & R icon who means so much more than 'his Whisky a Go Go' days suggest!
My favorite artist ever...After seeing so many shows, and meeting artists. Johnny Rivers put on my all time favorite show outside of Santa Fe, New Mexico. A true gentleman, humble, sounds like he did in 1964. He is absolutely the best entertainer...Every live show is great. You have to see Johnny while he is still touring. NOT TO BE MISSED EVER.
I really did´nt know Johnny Rivers was that good. Sensationel singing and guitarplaying. I remember him from the radio in the 1960´s. These days he´s even much better ! Thank you for first class intertaintment!
I always have loved to listen to Michael Bloomfield and never strayed. But Mr: Rivers came through Santa Cruz and he played two sets and I wanted to hear more he really changed my world of music. I keep looking for him playing live somewhere, but no luck. Johnny Rivers just puts a smile on my face thinking about fantastic memories. Thank you Mr: Rivers.
Love Marty, his beautiful wife Connie Smith pure country! Love Johnny Rivers too, he definitely should be in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame! Marty is Great! 💕
Don't worry about him not being in the RRHOF. Its a complete fraud. His music says everything. Great performance. Of course. A real pro. Martys band 👍👍👍.
Most guitar musicians have a particular style, but not Kenny Vaughan. He creates so many different sounds it is a real pleasure to watch and listen to a great entertainer.
Wow! I've drifted a long way down life's river since first hearing Johnny Rivers sing this in 1968. Grateful he can still sing it so well and that I can still hear him!
I wouldn't place a lot of stock with the Rock n Roll hall of fame. Like Micky Dolenz said, it's a club, and pay to play. Johnny sounds as great as ever.
