Since Benedict Cumberbatch has been announced as the sorcerer supreme, I cannot see anyone replacing him. He's like Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark or Chris Evans as Cap. The movie hasn't even been released yet and I feel like he already owns the role. He'll blow us as Marvel fans away with his performance. Also, I feel that this will be the best marvel film visually. That alone would be oscar worthy, imo.
For the part of Doctor, Benedict Cumberbatch can be conceited and full of himself as he showed us in Sherlock. AND for the part of Sorcerer, Cumberbatch can also be a badass as he showed us in Star Trek 2.
I think Patrick Dempsey would be good for the role because of how much of a fan he is of Dr. Strange. He has a connection to Disney, he plays a hot shot surgeon on TV every week, and it would be cool to see him play a darker role
Being a marvel fan for over 25 years and being a collector..... I must say you are truly the professor.... Can't wait for the next class, may I recommend ghost rider, many have no idea just how powerful he is. Keep up the great work.
Hugh Laurie was my pick and you are the first person I came across who agrees that he would be a good pick for Dr. Strange. I believe Hugh would do the character justice if picked for the casting. But Aiden Gillan is also another person I'd be on board with for casting.
I was originally against Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange but after seeing what he's capable of and seeing how much he looks like him with a goatee, I was sold. after seeing the teaser, I am super excited to see his portrayal of my favorite Marvel character.
I think you should do a new Dr Strange video related video of the Extra Dimensional Villains, Entities, Forces and how they stack up to what we normally know of the known Entities and Forces in our Marvel Earth Reality. That would be an interesting video as it gives allot of people and fans so understandable basis to compare the threats and forces that Dr Strange combats and faces on a routine basis. Many people can somewhat understand normal villains and threats in the Marvel Universe, but many don't as much understand the threats faced by extra dimensional beings and entities among the Multiverse.
Ty for doing a balance of the back story without being redundant. I didn't grow up on the comics but hubby did.He likes how much you manage to cover in a short amount of time. Again,ty.
Having House gain supernatural abilities would mess with my headcannon too much. And I don't even want to get into the love triangle that Clea and Cuddy would make.
My pick for who should play Doctor Strange is "Oded Fehr". I think he has the look, he has the chops to carry a show, and most importantly he has the voice for it. In terms of voice he was the voice for Doctor Fate in the animated series 'Justice League Unlimited', where his deep voice had a very commanding presence that seemed strong with magic. When Doctor Strange casts spells it needs to sound commanding and magical. And this guy has that. He's also played a strong leader and fighter in 'The Mummy' movies, and he played a powerful demon on the series Charmed, where he was a main villain that was portrayed as both powerful and charismatic. That's my pick..
David Trujillo Luke Evans was also mentioned below. And I think he would also be a decent pick for many of the same reasons as Oded Fehr. Both have good voices, although I still prefer Oded for this role.
Well, as an old timer geek, and being a Dr. Strange fan since the 70's, a younger Tom Selleck would have been perfect! He already had the mustache down...
Liam Neeson hands down, having played a Jedi so well, he would have no problem portraying Strange, plus he has an intellegent and wise composure about him, and hand to hand combat experience through the Taken movies(though not a key factor, it is in Strange's arsenal and back story). Jeremy Irons from Eragon, mystic experience. John Glover from Smallville, could pull that role as well, very good physical build for him, plays an intellectual great, as well as being quite linguistically talented actor; having played Lionel Luther wonderfully. Sean Bean, best known from Troy and National Treasure, always has a great presence.
Your video's are the best on RU-vid, thanks for the work. You should add creator/contribution writers and artist throughout the videos, though I doubt there are many of us fanboys out here that like to get that nerdy into the history of characters.
Really, there are not many people that can even do an okay job at portraying Doctor Strange. Your choices were never mine. Doctor Strange is my favorite character, and I can really get inside his aura. He is actually my favorite character of all time period from any universe. The truth is, no matter what angle people come from in the upcoming movie, Doctor Strange will not be nailed. Doctor Strange is one of the most particular characters in the Marvel universe and really just in general in history. He is a very delicate character and not easy to master. I really don't know what to think about the upcoming movie. From the recent trailer alone, I feel very wary about this movie. There are already so many things I don't like. Most people I know or have seen are going for it, but I know better. It is easy for so many people who know very little about the character to get excited, but as for someone like me who truly truly understands him from the inside out from his very aura and existence, to his thought processes, to his motives and actions, and to his overall purpose, the feelings are not so great. It isn't that Benedict Cumberbatch isn't a great actor and doesn't master everything that he does, because he honestly does. The problem is the fact that he came in and had to rely on what others told him and how they wanted the character to be portrayed. He could have done research on his own and probably did, but that does not mean he had any sort of a hand of influence in the way that things went down. I think, all-in-all, Benedict Cumberbatch is a good choice for many reasons. I just don't know that Doctor Strange's universe is going to have justice done to it or his character itself will have justice done. Normally, I am pretty open to the idea of people wanting to mix things up with a certain storyline or a certain character. I actually love that sometimes. However, who is the character not to do that with? Doctor Strange. This is the one thing that I really ever wanted. The rest of everything can just be the way it is. I have actually been really upset the past few months. It makes me sad. I could really go on forever about it. I have my reservations about how the soundtrack will be also. I want to know what the real soundtrack is like. The composition used for the teaser trailer was also awful by the way as well. That was not the right music to have to get people interested. It could have been much much better. I hope that the actual and real soundtrack is way better than anything I have heard up to this point. As for an actor to play him, the other option that I really liked was Liam Neeson. The problem is, with some of the things he has been doing and some of the things that have happened over the past years, people view him in a different light than they used to (sadly), so the movie may have even been looked upon as a fluke or a joke. No matter that he would have had the capability to really bring the aura of Doctor Strange to life. There are roles that redeem people anyways and that restore the actor. It would have taken getting Neeson keen on the lingo of Strange and a few other things, but lots would have fallen right into place. The way Liam Neeson's voice sounds is practically perfect for Strange. His look is great... Liam Neeson is great at portraying characters who are mentors and who oversee other characters... but anyways, that is not going to happen. I really hope things regarding the movie of Doctor Strange start to show they are shaping up. This is the one thing that I have wanted... By the way, unless I just didn't hear it, the one thing you missed is the fact that the reason Strange practices medicine the way he does is due to his sister Donna's death. That heavily influenced why he chose to practice medicine the way he did and why his attitude was always so sour. Anyways, cheers...
Watching this video after having seen the Dr. Strange trailer has made me even more excited to see the movie!! I never knew much about Dr. Strange, but his origin story sounds like great material for a movie. By the way, the production quality of this video is amazing, and you are very well-spoken!! I'm glad I'm subscribed to this channel!
What a great thing to wake up to. Glad to hear you sound healthier :) I totally agree with Littlefinger playing that role. It was like an epiphany when his face came up. Alternately I'd like to see Mads Mikkelsen from the Hannibal series play the role. You know... last night I dreamt you had uploaded a video called "my birthday explained". I was so happy about it that I woke myself.
Jim Caviezel would have been awesome as Stephen Strange. When he appears for the first time as the Count of Monte Cristo, he looked very wizardly...lol. He played Jesus. He is a great serious actor, and I am sure he could have pulled the role off too.
I couldn't agree more, I also believe Aidan Gillen would be perfect for Doctor Strange. Gillen's acting in Game of Thrones for his character Lord Baelish is spot on for Strange, his posture, gestures, he'd make a brilliant Stephen Strange.
Hey, just going through nearly all your videos, one thing I think you should do to improve your view count and channel in general is shorten the intros, 3 second intro is good enough, anything over 10 seconds is kind of annoying when you just want to get to the actual content of the video.
I think Jon Hamm looks like Dr. Strange and is a decent actor. My only reason to give pause is he hasn't had a ton of big screen success but Mad Men is a great show and he is great on it. I think he could pull this off.
I would like Johnny Depp to play Doctor Strange. I feel like he has the look and even with recent failures he has enough star power to bring people into the theatres. Adrian Gillan would be good as well.
I enjoyed your background video on Dr. Strange-good job! The actor who immediately came to mind to me though as far as playing Dr. Strange was Hugh Laurie from House, M.D. Right age, right look, and a pretty good actor to pull it off.
Looks like Benedict Cumberbatch is going to play Dr. Strange. I would have never thought of him but he is such a good actor that he will make the movie more main stream for sure. Cheers! I really want to see it now.
Fun fact, after the Vishanti took his powers away in Sorc Supreme 49, he eventually got them back in a cut away scene in Untold Tales of Spider Man. I only know this because I'm a huge Dr Strange Fan. Heck my favorite look for him was Sorc Supreme 80-90, where his Cloak of Levitation was more of a trenchcoat. Wish they'd go back to that.
I see the perspective where all these actors being named to possibly play Doctor Strange makes sense in different ways, whether its looks (which is important in my eyes), experience playing a doctor, experience playing a magician, etc. I can't help but look at the casting for the previous films for Marvel and think of the more or less no names that knocked it out of the park and have become synonymous with the characters they are playing (Downey, Evans, Hemsworth, Ruffalo, Hiddleston) Finding a actor that has the look but most importantly the personality and wit and character and mannerisms of Doctor Strange is what I believe will make a successful film.
I'm really hoping for Joaquin Phoenix to get the role. I think he's a tremendous actor, he looks the part, and Marvel seems to already in contact with him. So I think it would work.
I think you overlook some actors for the dr strange character. My choices in no particular order would be Viggo Mortensen, Daniel Day Lewis, Johnny Depp, Colin Firth or the delightful Colin farrell
I love Johnny Depp, but I don't think it would be a good fit at all. I love the last suggestion for Dr. Strange & I totally agree. Remember he has to play the character for multiple moviez/ events.
I think Paul Mcgann would make the perfect Doctor Strange, he would throw a 100% of himself into that role where a better known actor might not, he got a bum rap with Doctor Who and is a much better actor than people give him credit for.
Thank you so much for all your research, and opinionated narrative. It deffinately helps to understand these stories even more. You do a great job! Keep up the good work!
Why do many people say that "The Hulk" is a horrible movie. I think, it just wanted to go with a smarter plot (a la Nolan's take on the Batman) and was somewhat interesting, but went a bit ahead when people wanted to see the "Hulk Smash" kind of a movie which was "The Incredible Hulk".
i think you are getting them mixed up. "The Hulk" was more of the "Hulk Smash" film. it didnt delve into the character the way it should have and the way "the Incredible Hulk" did. I was really turned off by the jumping across the country too.
ok, just to be clear, y'know that The Hulk came first and then was followed by The Incredible Hulk, right? c'mon, 'the incredible hulk' was as basic as action flicks get. 'the hulk' at least tried to do something more with it. I'm not saying it did a stellar job, but it was somewhat interesting (if not entirely). 'the incredible hulk' was ok, nothing particularly too interesting with a huge monster battle at the end.
Jim Caviezel. I have always thought he would make a supreme Doctor Strange, ever since I saw him in The Count of Monte Cristo, he really looked the part and his acting in the film shows he can go from being self centered to becoming the hero.
I really enjoyed your breakdown. That was fun.It was my understanding that Benedict Cumberbatch would play Dr. Strange. Once the thought was put in my head i started to except it.
I'm super excited to watch these knowing what I know now about the Strange movie. Benedict Cucumberbatch! Can't get enough of this guy, Sherlock and then Star Trek, despite not being critically revered. I'm very pleased that he'll be playing Dr. Strange, he's my Jason Isaacs. Isaacs was pretty good in soldier, despite nothing else about that movie being good.
Personally I feel Viggo Mortensen would make a great actor for the role. He has a certain mysterious quality about him that I feel not many actors can pull off, and for him its naturally occurring.
Way to take a typecasting route to your actor picks. Benedict's gonna nail it. He's fantastic and I have to admit, I'm damn excited to see him in a Marvel roll. I was a little worried about the look, but the production photos I've seen thus far look great. As for content, my guess is they'll go the Cap route and open with the origin story and pull it into a wider plot. I really hope they do it as well as with Captain America and not with flashbacks. Flashbacks would be a letdown. Especially for those of us who aren't as familiar with the comics.
I love Cumberpatch. He has done great work and commits to movies. But if Hugh laurie was doctor strange I would have been more excited for the upcomming film.
Bill Cosby It still very well could be an origin story. Remember, Zola's algorithm detected future threats to hydra. It could be just predicting that he could pose a threat to Hydra in the future instead of meaning that Stephen Strange is already powered up and ready to face off against Hydra. Just my thoughts on the matter, personally I hope it is an origin story for all the newcomers
this episode was spot on. all i wanted was yours & Marvel Comics' take on the character & see how much of it was relatable to the film... by the by, you forgot Bill Bixby for the telly series. & speaking of back stories, i certainly hope when they introduced F4 in MUC, there is no origin story for them. we've seen it 2x already. in Hulk film with Edward Norton, i thought they would introduce Reed, because he was call Mr. Blue...
My dream Doctor Strange would be Oded Fehr! He looks just like him to me, and he's been so diverse in everything I've seen him in from television to movies. His kickass in action (ex: resident evil series) and also has practice playing some mystic character types (Ardeth Bay in The Mummy and the voice of Doctor Fate in Justice League) He would ROCK as Steven Strange and would be a wonderful addition to the MCU
What are your thoughts on Benedict Cumberbatch playing Dr. Strange? I am new to Dr. Strange and I admit the movie trailer brought me here. I do think it would have been an interesting choice if they would have went with Hugh Laurie.
I've always thought Oded Fehr would be an interesting choice. Even before he personified Doctor Fate on Justice League. He has a pretty close resemblance, too.
Maybe one day, Doctor Strange will meet the Planeswalkers of Magic the Gathering. They find out that he out classes them in all schools of magic. I would love to see that.
