How many times is Hickman going to set something up with potential just for those that come after him to fuck it up?

I thought America Chavez was supposed to be a singularity, not existing in any other universe, like Rachel Summers/Grey is supposed to be. They really just cannot get continuity down at Disney Marvel

Imagine wrecking up most of the series in a universe with a single issue.

So the story is someone going through history, and removing heroes to make themselves look important by overwriting their achievements? Are you sure this isn't the most honest self-insert for a modern writer?

My problem with Ultimates #2 wasn't the politics (despite its heavy-handedness) but it's the fact that Steve doesn't have a rebuttal to Midas.

A bad comic story is a waste of good comic art.

The Punisher = white militia in this made me roll my eyes. Midas (introduced in the 616 as a Marvel Boy villain) is obviously being used as a stand-in for Trump. Given the recent assassination attempt I'm done with the one sided, Right Wing = Evil, take in comics (and in entertainment in general). We need to turn down the political heat + I can only read the same fucking message so many fucking times. I liked Deniz Camp's 20th Century Men but he was a lot more nuanced in that. Tomorrow I'm telling the comic shop to take this off my pull list.

A generation of comic-book writers who were not even taught actual American history. This nation was built on the backs of a lot of people, and slaves where only part of that story: Irish indentured servants, french trappers, native American tribes, English colonists, revolutionists, and on-and-on-and-on. Even the white house that supposedly had slave sold infront of it (which is false) no longer exists, as a little event called the *Burning of Washington* happened in 1914, wherein the original white-house was destroyed. By the time it had been rebuild - the current Whitehouse's construction was finished - slavery was largely already being outlawed in many places, including were DC is today. Furthermore, much of the modern nation we know of today - from the technology, to the roads, streets, buildings, civic systems, etc - are by products of a much later time, when slavery was abolished in most places. This is just illiterate and uneducated people with pointless degrees who think they can write, when they honestly have nothing to say beyond regurgitating talking points of others who parrot things.

Definitely a flawed book because Hickman Ultimate Universe mini (expensive as #%^*) was supposed to set up the world as it exists in the Maker’s image. Basically it’s ripping off the world set up in Wanted by Millar. It’s not that the USA never existed but some time after Captain America was frozen, the Maker made sure the country went in a different direction. Essentially this book is the Marvel version of the Authority. The world is going to do as THEY say. They’re “liberating” one country after another, expanding their roster.

Read over the issue a few times and I thought the book was really solid. People might roll their eyes at Midas but I honestly felt that he was more than just some cheap caricature of capitalism. The guy actually served as a really good foil for Cap. Incidentally too, Cap does say to Midas that they know what’s going on underneath the White House (not specifically to who) and that’s why they decided to attack. Speaking of which, America Chavez joining the roster is no skin off my back. I doubt she’s going to go around saying crap like what came out of that cringey mini in 2016 and frankly I’m curious what her new backstory is. The stuff about mutants disappearing after the 60s - 70s is actually going to be a plot point in Ultimate X-Men based off the recent solicitations. Though I’m more interested in what sort of deal the Maker made with Galactus and what exactly happened to the Punisher.

I’m still irritated with the Arrowverse wasted all our time with John Diggle, and him, possibly becoming green lantern .

Deniz Camp is 100% a writer to avoid, if you see his name attached to anything, do not buy it.

I can't get too worked up about "rich white man villain" when decades ago we had the likes of Obadiah Stane, Lex Luthor, Justin Hammer, the 616 Midas, Gregory Gideon in one of the earlier FF stories, the Kingpin, etc. They've been creating characters like this since last century. As for corporations being unethical, that's kind of standard for them, so much so that it isn't even left-wing to say it. You think that the 💉 wasn't motivated by corporate greed?

I flipped through this on the stand and as soon as I saw Chavez I was out. Even put the latest ultimate Spider-Man down. These were kinda the last chance for Marvel for me, I had already written most of it off, but was trying the new Hickman run ultimate stuff, but this is it. Done.

I agree. Gave up Ultimates on #2. Just sticking with Ultimate Spiderman and hoping there isn't much crossover with the rest of the line.

Ultimate Universe line with the exception of Spider-Man are all boring . Ultimate X-Men is not X-Men it just a girl boss team . Ultimate Black Panther is good art mid story . And this new Ultimate is a step down for the Mark Millar Ultimate's

When i lived in Central America i'd occasionally run into one of those would-be activists huffing about how "America" should refer to both continents. And I'd always ask them, oh, how many countries in the Americas have "America" in their names? And they'd either rethink their position or get stroppy.

I believe Deniz Camps was going for *Cynicism of America vs Steve Rogers’ Idealism of America* I Found out Midas is existing character who originated from *Grant Morrison’s Marvel Boy* Midas still wore the same the Golden Iron Man Costume. I am gonna read Marvel Boy, if Midas has a same personality and brags a lot just like the Midas from this comics 6:44 How Midas Brags about the cynicism about America. That’s point for a villain to say. Midas literally told Steve *“your vision is Narrow, my vision is wider”* Midas say all this so he tries to antagonize and break Steve Rogers. Midas Brags is not jarring compare to Mickey Mxyzptlk from Dark Crisis Young Justice or Doctor Psycho from Dark Crisis world without Wonder Woman. Or The Sovereign from Wonder Woman. It would in fact be awful if Steve Rogers agrees with Midas. But no, despite what Tony told Steve, Despite everything Steve saw in the Hologram room and Despite everything Midas Say, Steve did not give in. *Steve Rogers still hold his beliefs and ideals of America’s Freedom and Justice* When he save America Chavez, he said *“great injustice was done to you, but things will be better now”.* That is where I believe that is something Steve told her and what he is telling himself. Steve wants to believe and still fights for a better future. I agree with you that The Ultimates saving America Chavez without explanation is forced but I do understand what Camps trying to say. I understand Deniz Camps way better than Tom King. Tom King writing The Sovereign and America in Wonder Woman is objectively 10 times worst. And I just read Tom King’s Sheriff of Babylon, all 12 issue and I still have no idea what Tom King is trying that say in that book. I seen Perch’s videos about Captain America. How modern writers made Steve always question himself about America. Or Writers say it too difficult to write Steve Rogers. Or the infamous line that Steve said “America is dead.” I am not Captain America fan but I seen many videos Steve Roger’s being cynical about America. At least Deniz made Steve have strong beliefs and ideals of America’s freedom. When Steve said Save America, Midas responded save it, you barely now it. That gets flip around when Midas he love America Chavez. Steve love her you don’t know her name. Which is true. Midas have been exploiting America Chavez for profit that goes against Steve’s beliefs. I feel like people upset about the politics in this are unintelligent or just used to looking for things to be upset about. This is a different world. The politics is not “white billionaire bad” in this book. It’s such a reductive boring way to look at this. It’s a guy who overthrew the government and then actually making the US into this awful version. People are just so sensitive to a little commentary, this was my favorite Ultimate book so far.

I give up this book in the first issue. Again the Ultimates are portrayed like a bunch of killers. This sucks. I will just follow Ultimate Spider-man now. This new Ultimate universe stinks so much.

You missed the mark on this review so bad that I’m considering giving Mark Waid another chance.

I’ll still be reading Ultimate Spider-Man and Ultimate X-Men. The latter is the book with no X-Men, however it’s a lovely book. The only problem I have with it is the title, tho it serves as a distraction from the travesty that is 616 X-Men.

This book is the poster child for why editing/editors and having a real leader with balls is non existent at the Mid 2.

Well when you got a Japanese writer/artist writing Ultimate X-Men (in name only) set in Japan just doing whatever the hell she wants and have absolutely no ties to the rest of the Ultimate Universe you get this mess.

Wow. Another promising premise set up by Jonathan Hickman ruined. Who could have seen that coming? Again, there is no consistency among the different series. Well, Marvel did tell us not to care about continuity, so... 😣😒. At this point, I only hope that at least Ultimate Spider-Man is written well and that a real Ultimate X-Men series is launched.

My favorite book of the week. Really enjoyed it. They are still setting up the team. Last issue introduced Hank and Janet. This added Chavez. It didnt really need much setup.

The last few Marvel books I bought were 3 to 5 years ago. Nothing I read felt important. Three books that meant nothing and one was the new Spidey book by Bachalo! It still didn’t feel important. Felt like it was a throwaway story.

Boy oh boy, it's frustrating seeing these characters being misused over, and over, and... Anyway. Why is it so hard to find people who aren't keyboard activists, who love the history of the Marvel Universe as much as the actual art form of telling a decent comic book superhero story? We are out there... But it's at the point where association with the big two feels like a poisoned chalice, and nothing short of a complete do over with a 100% staff overhaul will do. That, and getting free from the grasp of Disney Corp. Until that happens, I'm afraid we will continue to see our modern mythology corrupted and twisted into a platform for the social reforms of the corporatised agendas. I shudder to think what Mr Kirby would say if he could see what has been done to his creations.

The new Ultimate universe seems to be going the same way as Krakoa. The ideas and issues by Hickman were great, but then the rest of the writers ruin the whole thing.

I think you made a mistake here, Wes! Captain America sees flashback of American history in some kind of holographic mode. So, X-Men that Captain America see, is in the past. Not recently. Even, probably before the Maker mess up with history. So, it still make sense. You just misunderstand. Oh, and Juan Frigeri art is good. Even better than John Romita Jr. or Humberto Ramos.

Is that Sunspot and Wolfsbane? Why are they here and not in Ultimate X-Men? They need real X-Men characters in that book desperately.

I lost all interest in this series with Chavez

Yeah this was a bad issue but I'm not gonna completely give up on the guy because he wrote one bad issue. He wrote two mini series I liked, Bloodshot unleashed and Children of the vault. For me the worst part of this issue was how yet again the Punisher and his fans are portrayed as bad guys.

I hated the fact that this version of punisher or punisher logo portrayed as symbol of domestic terrorism.

I give this issue a 5/10. I would have given this issue a 10/10 if America Chavez would have been revealed to be a Korean lesbian, with short pink hair, and several facial tattoos.

America Chavez? The big exciting revelation is the mystery and the excitement and the racial and political agenda-pushing of America Chavez? The most boring propaganda prop in any Marvel universe is our payoff? I can't stop laughing.

This is utterly laughable and infuriating. I was really hoping to get a solid Ultimates team book when they announced this new universe. It appears this is my punishment for having any kind of faith in Marvel. I am just waiting for Steve Rogers to die by issue 6 or 12 (if it gets that far) and they give us Captain America Chavez. I'm pretty much done with the Ultimate Universe at this point, the only exception being Spider-Man.

Unfortunately agree. But tbh even ult spidey, after the luster of married-with-kids Peter runs out, I think there is a high possibility that it’s just going to be trash too. These first issues were ok, but not great. I feel like everyone if giving it extra points just for the marriage being in tact

I leafed through it and when I saw that Chavez character and other things in it. I immediately put it back down. The story is blatantly anti American. And to have Captain America go down like the biggest p&$$y yelling tacky stupidity, is just criminal.

Yeah its a step-down to the 1st issue and the execution could've been better and I enjoyed it but I do have to admit it has a huge plot holes. And In my opinion deniz camp is hit or miss like his bloodshot run, ultimates #2 and I know you'll disagree with me but I thought 20th century men were good but #2 of u2 is a step down and im saying it as a person who actually liked this comic like he has potential to make a great martian manhunter comic. And the new ultimate universe is not perfect but at least it has better titles than most of 616 like compared to titles like zeb wells spider-man, Steve Orlando iceman, and jackpot. And to be fair the ultimate universe was always political.

thank you for saving me the trouble and money of reading number 2 of this comic. sadly i saw signs in the first issue but i was hoping for the best, well you verified my fears and no i wont be buying this issue or any future issues either...i dont see this ultimate universe making past a year honestly. soon as Hickman leaves ultimate spiderman its gonna go completely off the rails...

Sorry, I really enjoyed this issue. Great story, art and action. And I completely agree with the writer that rampant capitalism and billionaires are ruining the West. If you have a problem with that, then you have a problem with reality. Stuart.

You have said everything I felt after reading this issue. I had to double check to make sure I was reading issue 2 because it felt like I missed an issue. As soon as I was done reading it, I removed it from my online subscription list. Just a really bad comic.

Bought the first issue because they showed the suggestion they were going to rehabilitate Hank Pym. Got #2, and rehabbing Hank isn't enough. Done.

So it took less than six issues to ruin this book. Looks like only USM is left, let's see how long it takes to ruin that one.

I will say I enjoyed Ultimates #1. Having said that damn this 2nd issue is the definition of bad. Everything Wes said here about it is spot on. No need to say any more then that. Now I don't know if I'll ever bother with #3. What was the editor on this book doing? Can The Maker remake the editor so he does the job of not delivering a obvious bad issue to the readers. WTF20.
