I agree with Rick about talking to the watcher. At that point all is lost so it doesn't make a difference. Now the sacred timeline is no more does that mean evil doctor strange has a chance to escape that end and jump to a different timeline
@@ZealStarMedia If he is supposed to be Uatu (who is a Watcher, in particular, The Watcher of Earth) then... he's definitely interfered and interacted a few times in the past. Considering that everything was ending and only Strange would be left in the end, it probably no longer mattered if he had a few choice words for him, especially since he was just basically confirming that Strange fucked it all up himself and this is what he gets.
He definitely revealed himself in the end, his body wasn’t blank, he was hiding before when Strange sensed him but he definitely revealed himself in the end and spoke to him
Our Strange chose his career so he lost his hands...This strange chose her so he lost her. The absolute was losing what he cared for most driving him to become a sorcerer. Ours started off selfish and became selfless...This Strange was selfless and became selfish...
It kind of sours you on love a bit. To see time and again that what was supposed to be beautiful turn someone into a piece of crap. Seeing the nature of man depend so much on something impermanent until it destroys them and everything around them. Love, like anything else, can be just as destructive as hate.
I absolutely love the fact that you actually paid attention , not to say that No one else did but you caught on to everything including how he was vs how ours was
*Every Timeline in the MCU Multiverse* Wong "Don't do something Reckless" Dr. Strange *Literally does something Reckless the second Wong is out of sight after saying it*
Benedict really sold with the voice acting this episode. At the end when he's in anguish, just crying out to literally nothing, you feel so much for him. We know he's not a bad guy, that through all of the episode he just did what he thought was right, that he could fix everything by any means and it isn't till it's too late that he realizes that he's gone too far. His pleas for only him to suffer, for everyone else to be okay, he really didn't want to hurt anybody but he doesn't realize the damage he causes till everything's gone
@@chrislee3601 I know!!! So simple but it feels so emotionally hitting. Just like Tom's "I don't wanna go". Sometimes the best performances are not in the writing but the delivery
It helps that Benedict had voice acting experience voicing characters like the Grinch, Smaug, & even Dormammu himself. Same couldn’t be said for Sebastian Stan in the first episode.
He did ask how many nights will he sit in the sanctum sanctorum with the power in his hands to bring back his love but never gathered the courage. At one point he just had to try to do what he wanted to do all this time. I think seeing Christine die again and again made him more adamant on bringing her back . He just forgot the price he will have to pay to bring her back to life.
I really think every episode of this show has gotten better. If they manage to top this one I'll be shocked. It was everything I wanted from the show. Great to see the "villain" win then suffer the consequences of their actions. I loved it
I think the divergent point that made this universe different from the main MCU was the fact that in this reality he was a better boyfriend and was still with Christine when the car crash happened, while in the MCU they had broken up beforehand and so he drove alone that night. But the car crash still happens and leads him to become Dr. Strange so he can save all reality from being wiped out by Dormammu.
the two things strange could have tried, Equal exchange, cause himself some misery that would trigger him learning the arts, like loose his hands,,,, two take a page from endgame, ressurection in the present rather than changing the past
Anyone noticed that the Watcher talked to him because he applied the same concept of Loki finding Lady Loki’s hideout? No matter what you do, it won’t change anything if everything is about to get destroyed. So the Watcher wouldn’t change anything if he talked to strange since the outcome would be the same.
Fun fact, if you look at when Dr. Strange was holing back the universe from collapsing, you can see he's using both the Mirror Dimension and Chaos Magic to keep everything from being destroyed.
The absolute point in time is just one which can't be changed without causing a paradox. In this universe, losing Christine is how Strange got his powers in the first place, so he can't use those powers to save Christine, or it'd be self-contradictory. So in our "sacred timeline" universe, Stephen injuring his hands would be the absolute point in time, unable to be changed without causing a paradox, and thus unable to be changed at all.
Also makes a lot of sense. Here we see strange and cristine are more close. Indicating tha he is a lot less selfish. In this universe if he had loss his hands probably wouldnt happen anything. But losing cristine was to much
Also if you think about it the absolute point was actually Strange losing what he loved most. In the original timeline he loved his career most so it was his hands that he lost. This strange chose his love life instead od his work. He was the opposite of ours.
@@Cwronaga216 I'm not sure about that. In the movie, he did ask Christine to come to the event with him, but she turned him down because she had a "Strange Policy" not to date colleagues, especially him. I don't think he's less selfish in this universe, I think she just decided to date him anyway, and maybe his time with her softened him up a little.
@@IceMetalPunk His starting personality is different in this one. It seems his relationship with her was way more involved and he was more focused on her. He probably focused more on her in this timeline than he did in the original MCU one where he was more concerned with his work. His character wouldn't make sense if that wasn't the case this time around.
@@Cwronaga216 I don't think that's his starting character, though. I think that's who he turned out to be after being in a relationship with Christine, but before that relationship he started out the same as the Strange we know.
If the infinity stones get their power from their universe, at the end of universe strange become the centre of it and stone get its power from strange and it become red accordinly to evil strange
I did not think that this show would go so far as to have a tragic horror story, and goddamn did it end tragically. I was actually scared for Stephen’s mind and soul the entire time. And when he was pleading for Uatu to save his universe only to be shown how it was all his fault, chills. That final scene of Strange just whimpering “No, no, no, I’m sorry.” has to be one of the most heartbreaking scenes I have seen in years.
"One life, one choice, one moment can destroy the entire universe." - The Watcher I don't think I will ever forget that line and That conversation between Strange and The Watcher at the end of that episode gave me chills man and to just see Strange crying "I'm sorry" when all the universe is destroyed because of him was heart rending and I was so sure things would work out but it didn't. What if...keeps getting better and better. I never expected an episode like this. It was genuinely scary to see Strange crack to the point where he sacrificed the universe and still never got the one he loved. But like The Watcher sticks to his job description man. He does not interfere. Somebody give the man a raise cause he is doing his job haha. (Me trying to joke because this episode really cracked my mind). Also the Watcher didn't reveal himself. Strange was just absorbing power for centuries that he got powerful enough to perceive him and even communicate with him. The Watcher doesn't interfere. WOW. Way to go Marvel for not being scared to cross the line.
Well there are many watchers and they aren't supposed to interfere but uatu, the watcher We are following, has interfered many times in the comics cause he has an admiration of humanity and believes they are worth helping.
@@laughmouth That didn't count as interference in my opinion. Lemme explain...Strange triggered an apocalyptic event and as Loki has taught us nexus events do not occur during apocalypses because everything is getting destroyed anyway so the Watcher talking to Strange did not count as interfering. Also, the watcher never spoke of his own Accord but replied to Strange. Strange was the one that beseeched him and he dignified him with a reply. In fact he specifically said he would like to help, punish Strange instead but he wouldn't interfere. That's how I see it anyway.
There's something incredibly heavy about where Strange is left at the end. This small ball thing is the only thing in all of existence. He destroyed the entirety of space-time and the universe, but now when it's too late to go back and fix it, he realizes what he's done and can do nothing but look back and regret
Ohh... I have a theory. In the final episode, the final title will be: "What if... the Watcher Interfered?" Thought about this some more and thing the title is more likeable to be. What if... the Watcher Intervened? He said it in episode 4 which makes it more likely.
@@yesse871 I didn't mention them in a relationship because it wasn't actually confirmed. They had dated previously, so this could have been flirty holdover from that, or they could still be dating, we don't know.
These dark endings really make you appreciate the main storyline even with Stark, Steve, vision and Natasha being gone. It could've been much much worse. And in ep2 hearing the universe ends cuz Ego got Peter, is nothing compared to actually watching it all end 🤕 how much darker can they go
I remember someone pointing out the contrast of Strange living half a life in this episode while in the Trailer to No way home he criticizes Peter Parker for trying to live two
The two Dr. Stranges in this story are a perfect illustration of the Philosophy of the Jedi Order. The original is a self absorbed prick with no attachment to others and the skill to help others in rare and extreme ways. Once he loses his ability to use the skills he knows he draws upon his supreme will power attempting to regain his ability. In doing so he learns to feel humility and through that true compassion for the rest of the world. What if Strange is a great guy full of love and the skills of the original. Once his attachment is taken from him he turns from the benign nature of his skills and tries to replace them with a new set of powers to fill the void in his life regardless of the cost to himself or others.
The universe to Christine: "... and fuck you in particular!" This episode is like if the writer had watched Steins;Gate the night before and wanted to make a whole episode out of it.
This felt more like an origin of Dormammu than a What If story. Like after the end of the episode Strange is left in the empty world with nothing but his grief and madness until he's turned into an all consuming monster that spans throughout time and reality. And while I know this isn't the case it is still fun to think how Dr. Strange's greatest enemy could be the worst version of his own self.
@@JustKrin The only thing is that dormammu seemed confused by the time loop strange put him in, which wouldn't make sense if strange did that before becoming dormammu.
The very end really got to me. If anyone has ever felt extremely alone and very sorry for what they’ve done, I’m sure they can relate to this. Him saying “I’m sorry” repeatedly and so desperately as they pan out... it made me burst into tears. This was an emotional masterpiece.
I actually thought this was going to go in another direction. I thought that Strange would actually find a way to change an Absolute Point, by sacrificing his hands instead of Christine and erasing his memories, becoming our Dr.Strange. I was so hyped for my idea 😊
I loved that they showed the empowered Strange being able to perceive The Watcher once he started to absorb the different creatures. That gave me shivers all the way to the end of the episode
Benedict voiced the dragon Smaug in the Hobbit movies and has done other Voice acting work. So he’s easily the actor with the most VA experience. So it’s no wonder he did such an awesome job! Also can’t wait for the zombie au episode!!
The most depressing episode I've seen😭👋 Benedict Cumberbatch has shown a phenomenal voice acting in here, I'm looking forward to see more of Dr. Strange in What If, plus this soundtrack sets up perfectly the emotional and intense scenes.
I would guess a fixed-point is created by a subsequent event. For example, Stephen Strange becoming Sorcerer Supreme is such a significant event that it makes her death a fixed-point because it was his motivation.
I have no words to describe this episode. It was epic and at the same time heartbreaking to see Strange plunge into madness to the point of wiping out his entire Universe to save Christine.
The absolute point is that which would erase Dr. Strange as the Sorcerer Supreme. It's different from the rules of time travel, but similar. You can't kill the past version of yourself that leads to the current version of you-- the universe wouldn't allow it. Strange insisting on bringing Christine back eroded the universe/folded it upon itself. He basically accomplished the opposite of the Big Bang.
He technically already interferred just by watching and Steven noticed. It's called the "Observers affect" meaning someone or something will act differently if they feel like there being watched. Like being at a new person's house and being on your best behavior
A fix point in time happens when the act of changing it is leading to destruction of the world or the act that change it is related to it to happen in the first place which is a paradox Example: strange gain his power only because he goes to kamertaj after the incident , he use this power to change what happened, but if that incident never happened then he never went to kamartaj so he never gain the power he used to change that incident , which gonna lead to a loop and a paradox in time
Cumberbatch has a lot of experience with voice acting from audio books, poetry reading (ode to a nightingale), narrating tv programs (the South Pacific, BBC) to radio sit coms (check out “Cabin Pressure” a wonder of British radio sit com ❤) he knows how to work that voice…
Our MCU Scarlet Witch is not as powerful as this Dr. Strange Supreme... At least not yet. She's supposed to destroy the universe in the future according to the darkhold. This is an example how things can go wrong if you mess up with time and reality.
Part of what made this episode amazing is the lack of cringe humor. No constant jokes like episode 1 and no creepy "lavender" moment like episode 3, even though the rest of episode 3 was great.
I honestly love the stories in What If, makes me wish they did it with actors not in a cartoon way but I do understand that some actors have retired from Marvel.
I love marvel but am not someone who usually enjoys animated shows(except for dragon ball). The way this was put together to me is just absolutely phenomenal!
After seeing the roll out and ramp up of these episodes it's super intentional, and people complaining about the first two episodes are mad short sighted. If every what if episode was depressing and world ending it would both be boring and unoriginal. Having varying tones starting with uplifting and moving into more complex ideas is mad smart to ease people in.
I actually almost had that same accident once. A car came speeding up on my rear and wasn't breaking. I only avoided getting hit by swerving at the last second into another lane. The guy barely avoided hitting the car that had been in front of me by slamming on his brakes late.
Okay so the answer the question of where Spider-Man was during the last episode. He was a kid, you actually see him at the Stark expo, he's the kid with the Iron Man mask trying to kill the robot. (Also yes this is canon the execs at Marvel Studios retconned it to be canon). So yeah at this point in like 2010 he was just a brilliant kid living with his Aunt and Uncle. He got bit by the spider about 3 months before he showed up in Civil War
In Civil War (2016-17 in the MCU timeline) it's stated that Peter(16yo) got bit 6 months prior. So, in the events of that episode, Peter would in fact be about 10 and not bitten yet bit lol
Just on some of the comments before the show, about if Spiderman is Spiderman yet, it is semi-canon (ie does not appear on screen but according to the creators) that the kid in the Iron Man mask that confuses one of the drones for a moment during the drone attack at the end of Iron Man 2 (which is this time frame) is Peter Parker. So while he is in universe, he is still a preteen kid.
I thought that the absolute point was created because Strange went back to save Christine, but in order to do so he had to use the powers he seeked because Christine was dead in the first place, creating a paradox. He can only acquire the power to come back if Christine is dead.
There’s a certain anime this channel has already reacted to that reminds me of this episode… it would be a spoiler to list the name, but the sequence of Strange going back in time to save Christine definitely made me think of this show.
This Episode was so amazing Strange suffering was such a tragic thing and I really felt bad for him and him being powerful enough to hear and see the Watcher shows how crazy powerful he was
Just a small thing but they announced that Peter Parker was the little boy Iron Man saved from the hammer drone later in the movie so he was for sure not bitten yet! Great episode!
It feels like the Doctor Who special the Waters of Mars (co-starring the former Minerva and soon to be Eternal Gemma Chan). A particular woman's death was a fixed point, because of its importance. The Doctor tried to change it. She ended up dying anyway. It was a fixed point. It's going to happen no matter what you do to try to change it. Changing it in itself could lead to death, just by another means.
I think the absolute point in time is probably the Time Machine paradox thing, in this universe if she doesn't die he doesn't become a sorcerer, he doesn't get the time stone, therefore he can't travel back in time so he can't save her. I'm not sure where the timeline diverges from the sacred one, I'm guessing it happens before the events of the show wherever he has a better relationship with Christine and isn't a selfish jerk (so maybe some time ago he didn't decide to be the bestest surgeon ever in the world, as much, and cared more about her than his career).
It isn't that Strange is necessary for the universe, but if Christine doesn't die, he doesn't go back to prevent it. That's what makes it a fixed point. Undoing it prevents the circumstances that undid it.
To answer where was spiderman in Avengers, remember, in IronMan 2 it was confirmed the kid with the IronMan Mask was Peter Parker. Do you really imagine that kid fighting with the Avengers? :D
I wonder what if the trick is you can’t stop, delay or get rid of a absolute point in time. But if you know or can peer into different timelines/universe and find another absolute point of equal value and switch the placement. Maybe then that strange could get her back and his universe, but for example if he switches the absolute point of our strange which is his hands. He can get her back and his world with his life lived, but now the absolute point for him is his hand damage. Might set up the evil strange for multiverse of madnesses.
The cool thing about your discussion is that it made me realize that probably "absolute points" are a problem only for time travelers, it's not about Dormammu, it's the paradox of someone able to change the timeline preventing himself from having the power to change the timeline, same paradox of "if I kill my granparentes". So I wonder what Kang absolute point is...
It so crazy that dr strange is now trapped in the mirror dimension bubble arguably for ever since her can use the time so he can survive forever I wonder if he’ll come back as an evil strange lager
I think her death is an absolute point in the depicted universe because without it, Dr Strange would not become a sorcerer and hence come in possession of the time stone and thereby go back in time. Hence, the only past he has access to is one that is consistent with him having the power to go back in the past, and the only past that is consistent with him having the power to go back to the past is one in which she dies.
Peter Parker was the small kid in iron man 2 wearing the iron man mask. Who gets bitten by the radioactive spider 2 months before the events of civil war.
I just want to know how this strange meets captain carter. That scene in the trailer definitely peaks my interest. He has to get out of his little pocket universe somehow.
Been waiting all day for this reaction. Such an amazing and heartbreaking story that I have a feeling will be connected to upcoming doctor strange stories
Okay but since Kevin Feige confirmed that the little kid wearing the Iron Man helmet in the end battle of Iron Man 2 was Spiderman that would mean he would be dead in that universe because Tony wasn’t there to stop whiplash which means Peter got killed
