Marvel Senior Exec Promises Peter & MJ Never Get Married 

Let's be honest .Marvel is going to eventually have Mary Jane and The Black Cat as Lovers . They can't do it in Live Action because Movies actually have to appeal to a large audience . But they have tailored their Comics Universe to a Niche of a Niche audience . And that Audience ( That there has been no proof actually exists ) only Cares about one thing in Comics . And we know what that one thing is .

The villains are in control of Marvel. Same with DC. Peter Parker is the new Peter Pan. He's made to be a kid or teen forever. Because they dont want him to grow up. Because they dont want you to grow up.

Marvel has been in a losing streak since Disney bought it, no incentive create new characters, keep recycling crossovers and race swap. Don't waste your money.

This is because people buy all ASM issues just for collection without reading. Sales will never be low enough for Marvel to start listening to the fans. Batman by Tom King was the exception.

I guess Spidergirl has once again ceased to exist. Also, I remember a few years ago, they finally had Gambit and Rogue tie the knot, and I'm pretty sure the marriage lasted less than two years in real life, which probably translates to about 2 weeks in universe.

Marvel and DC need a company wide reboot and to fire everyone from top-to-bottom and get new people to handle tbe reboot. Only way we'll get REAL change.

The greatest deadly sin is pride, and Marvel's editors are living proof of that. They know very well that a married Spider-Man would sell better, but undoing OMD would mean admitting that the fans were right and that pride won't let them.

No surprise at this point. After 15 years I just have to accept that both characters never will be happy together again. But Marvel it's so coward because Peter and MJ stayed married for 20 years and now they don't allow Peter grow up like character. There's no hope for modern Marvel anymore. The entire 616 comics line is dead now. Now the mangas and indie books are the only ones options for us old readers.

Even if marvel decided to have Peter and MJ marry in the main continuity I wouldn't even care anymore, because after everything marvel has done with MJ since one more day over time I've hated her as a character. I much prefer to have her and Peter married in an alternate universe like ultimate marvel because those version of the two don't have that toxic history with one another that the main 616 versions do. Also i got say that mandate they put in for Peter and Mj is bizarre. So Peter is allowed to be married with kids but just not with Mary Jane.

I'm sticking with 90s comics Spiderman where he and MJ we're expecting a daughter, Ben Reilly was more of a brother than a clone, Aunt May died, and everyone felt it, and everyone was excited about the future with Spider-mans Daughter. Ever since the Quasada divorce, we've suffered greatly and barely any new Spidey stories hold up to his expanding his legacy. It's a mess more than anything.😢

Are there any legacy ASM fans left at this point. Again, this is why manga and manwha are dominating the market. Those have endings. Maybe not every ending is satisfactory, but they end before bullcrap like this happens.

The continuity in both Marvel and DC is what made me to leave. Because, Even If they do...they will be rebooted, OVER AND OVER AGAIN. To me, peak Spider-Man was the 80-90 version, and the Strascynski one...at least in development of characters. I don't care about the present and possible future of the comics.

How do you screw up Spider-Man? I had been reading Amazing Spider-Man since Issue #39 (VOL 1), and last winter I gave up on the book. Until Marvel hires a "real" writer to scribe Peter's adventures, I'll just reread the old stuff by Lee. Ditko. Romita, Thomas, Conway, Wein, Andru, Stern--you know--the creators who knew how to write, (and draw) The Amazing Spider-Man!

Well, the storm is over, but bad news is that the damage is too far gone to repair. It's like Marvel is metaphorically suicidal. Plus, what Tom Brevoort is saying is the most WRONG thing you can say about a storyline. The person who gets to decide what is wrong and what is right for these character is the CREATOR. Not the company. If anything, executive meddling ruins media worse than cilantro does food. Execs need to stay on their side of the line. Period. Stan Lee is probably crying up there. Mind you, I think he's been crying for a while. It's like as though these vultures were just waiting for him to die, so they could run his work through the mud. This is past the point of stupidity. This is evil. And they're using social justice and modernity as shield to get away with it. It's despicable. This is why I made a vow to NEVER sell my work to Marvel. Something that was said pretty early on and it sent me down a rabbit hole was and I’m paraphrasing “that if they would defrost Peter’s growth then they could have Miles be the teen hero” and almost reflexively I thought “yeah right marvel can’t write good teenage minorities” (I might not have said the word minorities but I’m trying to be PG) and then it hit me because I hadn’t thought that ever before but they really do suck at writing or telling compelling stories about young people of color they can barely write superheroes of color but civilians? Like what they go through when the mask is off? I can’t think of any popular story from marvel featuring a young black character and its beloved not just everyone but black people on the overall. Don’t get me wrong DC is no better but they get away with it because they bought a black comic company and merged the already iconic characters like Icon, Rocket, and of course young black Jesus Static no kidding he’s like the Superman of brown people every little chocolate boy dreams of being The Virgil Hawkins and what? I’m glazing? Sorry got off topic but that’s my point because they can’t or won’t write Miles Peter is going to continually suffer for it and until Miles has not just made Peter redundant and outsells him I don’t think things will change which sucks since I like both for different reasons.

They only do this stagnant bullshit for three main reasons: 1. They keep Spider-Man like this because they treat him like they treat other stagnant characters just so that the new young readers can somehow relate to his life since he is marketed towards teenagers. 2. He is being replaced by Miles Morales, Ghost Spider and Spider-Punk so that the straight white male can be replaced with a B.I.P.O.C. inclusivity Spider-Man, a female diversity Gwen Stacy, and a L.G.B.T.Q. + representation Spider-Man so that the brand can be advertised as "progressive". And finally, 3. Bob Iger and the Disney Mega Corporation, Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios are doing their best to bide their time until the rights to Peter Parker are no longer mandated or relevant. By that point in time, the Amazing Spider-Man comic book will be totally digital and the comic book company of Marvel Comics will be shut down. So for those of you out there who still enjoy collecting and reading the Amazing Spider-Man comic book, say your goodbyes. Peter Parker's days as Spider-Man are over. The new standard is coming very soon, and they only want female, non-white, and non-straight young fans to buy and read that comic about that super hero. They aren't in the business of making and selling books, and characters for old fans. Not anymore.

You have to remember, the entire idea of Peter and MJ breaking up over One More Day/Brand New Day was due to Joe Quesada run on Spider-man because he felt it was too hard to write stories for Pete as a happily married man. Then when he was in position of power as a Senior Exec/Editor he put in a mandate that One More Day/Brand New Day can never be retconned by Marvel. Ever since then, I've felt betrayed by Marvel and Spider-Man comics since everything that happened was very out of character. Now we see how much people loved the coupling of Pete and MJ, with Ultimate Spider-man outselling the flag ship series up to 10 to 1 depending on the issue. In ultimate he's not only Happily Married, but has kids with MJ and is trying to balance his super heroing with his love and work life. We're proving, with out wallets, what we want to see with Spider-man going forward.

Peter has not had one interesting relationship since the marriage ended. Michelle? Carlie? That’s about all I can remember and those characters were paper thin and no memorable stories came from them. Joe Kelly put him back with Cat in a pretty gross two-parter in ASM (Kelly was the worst of the round robin writers by far, with no grasp on Peter’s voice), but that didn’t go anywhere and subsequent appearances by Felicia have made me never want to see them back together. Now, they have him with some completely forgettable nurse. This is why the marriage had to go? So he can have relationships it would be stretching to call failed because they don’t even really exist?

Wes, you're a family man yes, with kids? Would your wife be OK with you going out, putting yourself in danger (for no pay) even if it's to help others? Perhaps be gone for weeks to months at a time? Miles was more interesting when he was in the OG Ultimate universe. Marvel have a moving timescale that is roughly 4 of our years is roughly 1 year in universe. Spidey 1st appeared in (June) 1962, that is 62 years ago. So 62 : 4 = 15.5. Spidey was 15 when he was bitten, so 15 + 15.5 = 30.5, so Spidey is early 30's.

I've always said that trying to keep Peter as this single, broke bachelor is basically trying to force him back into a role that no longer fits him anymore. Same with Mary Jane, trying to force her back into the on again/off again girlfriend is forcing her back into a role that no longer fits her anymore. I stopped reading ASM a long time ago; Zeb Wells certainly hasn't brought me back either. So if they're NOT going to get back together, have Mary Jane move to California! It's bad that the new editors/writers were never mentored by the former-successful Marvel Legends from the past like Chris Clermont, Peter David and more. Most modern creators claime to be comic fans since childhood and being inspired by the Legends. Still by tying their life to this medium never consider to consult with them about the future of this media. Nothing is always perfect but some good ideas and word of advice would give them a clue of what a core audience want and why staying true to the character and source material always matters.

At this point don’t buy, read, and talk about Amazing Spider-Man. Let the book die and put your time and money into Ultimate Spider-Man and books that are at the quality of Shadow of the Goblin. This book is clearly not getting any better and is getting worst. This book is not for the fans because everyone is pissed. Ultimate is great and is what the fans want from a Peter Parker Spider-Man book. I hope this creative team makes history and gets Amazing cancelled then hopefully Marvel will course correct.

With the economy and everything else right now, a regressing Spider-Man might be more relatable than Dok realizes. A lot of us are losing at life, and it's not for a lack of trying. Of course, that doesn't mean the audience in a similar situation wants to be reminded of it in the comics they buy (it's escapism, after all). And a character like Peter Parker that has been shit on so much over the years, it would be nice if he could start winning more often than not. There's the underdog and then there's the losing cause.

You know, as a beginner of comics and buying them from the closest CS in my area, this is just a poor corporate decision. I'll admit that my knowledge of Spider-Man comes from basically almost anywhere except the comics, and decided to rectify that by getting into Wells era... boy, what a disappointment, and even more so now when hearing this decision. The best couple in comics era through the 80's, 90's, and 00's, the best thing you can do for both fans and the company, if not the industry, and it's mandatory to never let them be married again nor let Peter ever grow. I think I'll just buy the Omnibuses or epic collections for the next run cause Marvel is telling me through Lowe and Brevort that they despise Spider-Man and everything he stood for.

Spiderman and Mary Jane will get married when the copyright expires for both of those characters. It's fundamentally the duration of copyright that leads to these cultural dictatorships.

As fans of Spiderman it seems like the only way we will get good quality stories nowadays is when the classic creators return to do a special limited series. I can't understand why Marvel Comics was in such a big hurry to retire these very talented writers to begin with; only to be replaced with alot of lousy writers who shouldn't actually be working in the comic industry at all. But perhaps Kevin Feige's secret strategy is releasing a new Spiderman movie every two or three years would eventually replace all of the monthly Spiderman titles published by Marvel Comics. Which would be a very stupid thing to do since the monthly comic books is what continues to keeps the Marvel Studios in business. When is Disney finally going to wake up to the fact that Kevin Feige is still a problem for them. It's impossible to make supposedly non woke movies, but continue to publish mostly woke comic books. It's a recipe for disaster. Simply because the moment the fans stop buying the comic books any interest in what movies that Marvel Studios decides to release will sink faster than the Titanic did when it tragically hit the iceberg back in 1912.

You'd think that the Rebirth-era Superman and Lois and young-Jon would have shown Marvel that there was a real market for married super-heroes. To say nothing of Ultimate Spider-Man (volume 2) and the nostalgia for the pre-OMD comics....I understand that it's too late to retcon OMD outright (20-years is too much continuity to wipe away, regardless of how unpopular the initial story was) but, still, they could at least go in a good direction starting from where they are now...Anyways, I own exactly 1 post-OMD Marvel comic in the 616 universe, and it's a Moon Knight cross-over with Conan and Solomon Kane, and I only bought it for Conan and Kane.
