Did not back this simply because it is to expansive. Even only base pledge of $130 with no EU friendly shipping + vat is at least $200 with all extra costs added. Insane. Might pick up game on sale later on. No rush for this one with thoose prices.
Marvel Zombies on a budget: Pick up Zombie core box at retail. Print Heroic trait cards and skip the Resistance box altogether. Replace multiple man, sprinters, etc with zombie minis from your other Zombicide games. Those minis are better anyways. Use spawn cards from other game or use S.H.I.E.L.D. agent spawn cards as your zombie spawn cards.
This campaign was a great negative example of "less is more". I'm a completionist so when CMON started adding extra stuff to the campaign - as expected - I was seriously considering backing this project but the more they added the less enthusiastic I got. I love Marvel and I'd be happy to play this game but the thought of spending money on a pile of plastic that I won't be able to store was scary. Galactus is ridiculous but even without it, this game is way too much. If I buy just the core game I won't be satisfied because of the content I'm missing out on, if I buy it all I won't be able to store it anywhere and it will be a burden. Most CMON games had the same issue when the real content is on the boards and cards and all could fit in one box giving the players infinite variety but I can't have that unless I buy all of the plastic with it. I was ready to spend up to £200 but I'd rather have none of it now. I'll just play on TTS for free thank you very much.
My feelings exactly. I was very optimistic and excited to begin with but as the $ went up my hesitation increased. It got to the point where I decided that if I can't have it all (without slaughtering my wallet) I don't want to have any of it at all. I wholeheartedly hope everyone who stuck with it enjoys it, but it's simply far too rich for my blood.
@@SPICYMONKEYXD And in case you hear that a certain expansion is absolutely amazing you'll have to pay through the nose to get your hands on it. A real feelbad moment.
While not interested at all in this campaign, I have had this problem with many other games I wanted to back but as they continued, I decided to drop out of.
I have serious issues with CMON and agree with you 100%. Clearly we are in a minority as this game is having massive success on KS. I really think CMON should change their name to FOMO. It is much more fitting and as much as I wanted to play this game.. I too have to just walk away.
@@SPICYMONKEYXD I genuinely do not understand this sentiment, "I decided that if I can't have it all I don't want to have any of it at all." Is this a desire for completionism or what? I would like to understand.
It's not 1 to 5% getting Galactus. It's more than 7.000 backers when you add up the Galactus & Devourer pledge. That's almost 30% that's getting Galactus. Insane...
That is crazy! I think what he meant by 1 to 5% of backers that will actually use it in game frequently. 6,900 of those Galacti are going to collect dust on shelves.
I have been following your videos for about a year now and your Chanel was one of the main reasons I got into board gaming. One thing I’m hazy on and can’t seem to get a clear answer on is how to resale games. I early on went on a buying frenzy trying to buy as many games as possible to fill my shelf lol. Half of them I have learned are not games I would ever play again. A video detailing from beginning to end how you go about reselling your board games. Like all the way up until u drop it off at a ups store would be really helpful! Thanks again Alex!
I always appreciate these end of campaign videos- they’re so helpful, thanks!! At first I wasn’t sure if I was going to pledge for this but with all the content available and the two ways to play it just seems so cool. And I know you said it’s the worst deal, but I’m just going with the Resistance Pledge (I don’t want to track anything down later, lol). I’m also adding the Hydra & Sinister Six sets because I really like those characters! Probably will also grab the tokens and extra dice… =P looking forward to getting it to the table (in two years, lol!)
Not every Marvel character will be in this game thus no one will be a completionist. Once you realize that it makes it much easier to pass on the ALL IN.
So happy I'm not interested in this at all, saves me a boatload of money haha. So many amazing games can be bought from that amount. I've really changed on that since I started with the hobby. With Massive Darkness 2 I was very excited and did a big pledge, but since then my interests and priorities with boardgames have changed, I'm trying to get not too big ones but with better gameplay, so a tradeoff between storage and quality of the game. I feel now it's just way too much stuff, both Massive Darkness 2 and this one even more so probably. So I'm going to sell on my Massive Darkness 2 pledge without opening it. Also part of the decision is the FOMO practices of CMON, which I'm trying to avoid now.
I'm in for the base pledge for sure because of the SG. The only extra I am considering is the Sinister 6 expansion because it's the only one with KS exclusive extra that I like. Although I must admit that them adding the character cards to play as Thanos and red skull as exclusive instead of in the retail box annoyed me a bit.
Exactly the same..just also considering the Sentinel box as they will be only avilable in KS. After that I will get in retail the X-men Resistance an maybe the Hydra box. The Thanos and Red Skull card piss me off as well..
I’m not sure that the resistance pledge is such a bad deal. The typical base game usually runs at about $90 but there’s usually only 1-2 multi pour minis in that and there’s never been modeled bases. Now every mini has a modeled base and a significant number of them are multi pour designs too. That’s before accounting for the IP. I would not be surprised if the base game(s) of this actually retail at $110 typically. Possibly more, if you look at the fact that green horde is usually $100.
Thank you for the video, really. I have never play Zombicide (once the first ed when a friend backed it, but I don't really remember anything). So I was concerned about how much I would like it... but is Marvel and the miniatures are awesome. I originally selected the Galactus edition, I have the money but still was feeling bad for wasting it. So many cool expansion have been released that was thinking of changing to the Hunger pledge instead and say bye to Galactus. This video truly bringed me peace. I have finally lower it to the first pledge and only added the artist exclusive pack. All the rest I can take it later if I like the game for a much lower price, and the few extra exclusives do not truly make me feel bad. Galactus is still awesome though, and I will be envious seeing you unpacking it hehe
Great video, great advice as always. I'm definitely in the "It doesn't matter what you say, I'm getting it all!" camp. I've got the Devourer Pledge + Dice + Tiles + Plastic Tokens. I'm probably going to take a long break from Kickstarter (we'll see) after this pledge, so I'm going out with a bang CMON's 50th! Plus Michael Shinall designs great games!
these videos are strange.... i know that i will get no new info from watching it. but i still like to watch it cause i want to be engaged with the KS :) so thanks for doing them!
This was excitement, followed by revelation for me. This was the campaign where I just simply said, nope, no more. I have all of Invader and haven't tabled it yet. I have so much stuff and Nemesis Lockdown arrived today. I just don't need another massive thing like this. For CMON, I may be done until they do a new seasons of Cthulhu Death May Die. They offer all sorts of cool stuff, but I think I am full up on minis. So this campaign is impactful. Not only did I not pledge, I ended up not buying a copy of the all-in for the Great Wall. I really feel like I am turning a corner. All this and Perseverance and a ton of other stuff is on its way to me.
Kind of makes you envious with someone who plays 5000 hours on Skyrim - with lots of mods etc - works out super cheap . For the $800 all in - you can get 10 to 30 odd great games - already highly rated. The only thing is C'mon on core is normally good value + can sell expansions and get the core for near free . It's mainly about socializing with friends etc - Someone into car racing - could chew through $500 bucks in 1 night on tires or whatever. But you are right each year bigger and better , or just more games coming out - plus you also want to join that social league, go hiking , do macro-photography, build stuff , read more books etc . My take is back a few that really grab you - pick up other good stuff on sale when proven . I suppose you could set up 2 budgets for the year - 1 absolute money , 2 absolute time - then fill those gaps with existing or coming
"Nobody should get this. Of course *I* am, but no one else should." 😆 This is what I needed. The more complex this campaign got, the less interested I became to the point that I'm probably not backing at all. But the Box 1 + S6 now and Box 2 later suggestion puts me back on the fence with only a couple hours to go...
You have much of the same sensibility that I do, and I really appreciate it. You are a generally grounded advice giver, but horrible at taking your own advice outside of a few exceptions. You are mostly an all-in person, while also recognizing that it's not a good habit. And as much as you are a hypocrite in that respect, you always try to make sure others don't make the same decision that you do unless they truly have come to that decision after a good amount of thought. It's a realistic struggle that I don't think I have seen anyone discuss as much as you.
My brother and I split the cost for the devourer pledge as soon as we saw the sinister six add on as a team vs team PvP. His favorite character is Venom and mine is Black Cat and we're super competitive against eachother so this is a huge must have for us
In terms of expansions, the Fantastic 4 and the Hydra Resurrection seem to get most of their value out of the Resistance Core box. Due to story elements and the new Zombie type. But for SOME reason there is no pledge for Resistance core only with stretch goals. These pay walls in the campaign are ridiculous.
More than helpful Alex, thank you! And thanks for "keeping it real" or at least trying to help us keep it real. For those unable to keep it real, such as yourself, there's a support group at 7:00 :)
Great video, I have gone for the Hungry pledge. Played my first game of Zombicide over the weekend, retail 2nd ed, and I really enjoyed it and more importantly my wife really enjoyed it so felt more justified spending that much ☺️
I am angry with myself for backing the Devourer Pledge because I'm clear-eyed about how ridiculously overpriced it is. That being said, this set is a love letter to my childhood. Marvel comics and zombie movies were mainstays of my imagination growing up. Buying this means that there are probably a half dozen other (and possibly better) games that I won't be buying this year, but that's not necessarily a bad thing considering my backlog. This may also be my last kickstarter, and will most likely be my last Marvel game. I'm all Marveled out after this. If next year CMON shows up with DC United, or DC Zombicide, on the other hand, I can't make any promises.
Great video and I agree wholeheartedly, however does the scenarios and replayability come into the mix? I’ve never played zombicide and don’t quite know but you have played them all and had a chance to play a few scenarios of this one. Is mixing the characters in the scenario enough to keep it interesting or would the community scenarios or an expansion be required?
@BoardgameCo/Alex: I have to ask - having played both prototypes and if you can only pick up, since both being beer and pretzels dice chuckers, would you pick this or the bloodstone to purchase? Because that’s the dilemma I’m currently facing...Thanks in advance!
You forgot the “Making Bank” pledge level. Buy everything, 2 copies, sit on them for two years, sell in aftermarket and double your money. And buy the core sets for yourself to play
I'm considering this but the making bank price point is so high! You're talking almost a $1000 bucks to break even. Think this could sell all-in for $2000 at the height of the popularity of the new marvel zombies animation?
You forgot the "you live in a country where shipping doubles the price tag" tier. As I live in Brazil, this tier means I can only laugh at the absurdity of these prices
Great coverage in this video. Like the variety of pledge recommendations you provided felt honest and gave options, and I didn't even really consider the PVP group but thats a cool catch. For me I have held off backing one of the Zombicides for a while and I am getting the Hunger Pledge super stoked for it. Hopefully I love the game as its going to take up so much of my limited shelf space but worse case concur it will hold its value and I could easily see use of the minis for proxies or usage for other games.
Great video, thanks. Initially I was going to get the two core boxes. Everytime I looked at the campaign again, though, I seemed to add something. So I have ended up with everything, all expansions and addons, other than Galactus. As I'm spending that stupid amount, I am now planning to spend another $20 to pay somebody to tell the wife....
With an all core systems buy in at $240 I wasnt sure what to do so. I have found myself driven by the hype and burned a couple of times now so I have decided to drop $1 on it and see how I feel when the PM is out. If I find myself tabling zombicide more often I think I will grab it if not. I have a pile of marvel united and zombicide already and im sure I will be happy with them. Now for future me you want resistance pledge with hydra, sinister 6, gaurdians, artist pack, and tokens. Do not get fantastic 4, Galactus or sentinals. Dont let me down future me
An interior designer would want you to order the Galactus so that your room is balanced by the Cthulhu on the other side of whatever is between them. Symmetry is important.
I went all in thinking it was going to be way too much money. Ended up late pledging too many bones with the extra money I saved up for what I thought this would be.
Personally, I'm thinking $310 On Core Pledge and all gameplay expansions bar Galactus & Fantastic 4, picking up X-Men later or $430 for the I'm Hungry Pledge to get it all.
I had little interest in this but have backed for $1 since the reveal of the Sinister Six box with a versus mode. I thought this IP would lend itself perfectly to being a player v player game rather than just a lazy reskin of Zombicide (which I generally enjoy). As it stands I'd likely only up my pledge to $180 (depending on shipping) to cover the main game, sinister six and all the exclusives then getting the XMen expansion at retail. I'm dissapointed to see they haven't done a cheaper version of the Galactus optional buy that replaces the huge mini with a card board tile. CMON failed to do this with the massive Cthulhu mini in the Death May Die campaign and it effectively put gameplay elements behind a huge paywall.
Totally agree on wanting an alternative Galactus. For me it’s not even the $, but the space. I don’t have room for that giant figure. I’d happily take a tile instead.
@@charlesz5443 It's not even like CMON could say doing 2 versions would see sales of the big boy model drop. If you are going to get that one, you're going to get that one. Those people are getting it for the model so there's no way they'd drop that pledge if they really want it. If anything sales would go up as more people would be buying at least SOMETHING over just a few people getting the current version.
This much content deserves a deeper and richer gameplay experience. That would ensure you'd keep coming back to the crunchy decision making long after its release and without even needing new content. Yes, this campaign offers near infinite combinations of characters etc. but why would I care about that if none of drastically alters how I approach the game. Spirit Island is the perfect example for this. The gameplay is so juicy that simply changing a few variables (Spirits, adversaries and different events) completely change how you approach the session. I don't see that here at all.
This is it to me. Even calling Zombicide a 'system' is a stretch it is so barebones. All these characters seem great in theory but the gameplay itself has so little variation that I just don't see the majority of people spending the amount of time on it to warrant the expense.
@@mickelboy182 Couldn't agree more. For many this will be their first time with the Zombicide formula but no one actually reviewed the gameplay because all we get is "It's Zombicide". Well...does it hold up in 2022? Is there a reason to explore the seemingly endless content on offer? How fresh will it feel after 20 games with the core? How different is one game from the other? My pledge sits at $1 and it may very well stay there
I was thinking along the same lines about waiting on Resistance to get at retail for cheaper. Then I realized the SRP on it is $130, meaning when it hits online retail, it's going to go for... $110, not $80 or $90... crap. If you're in the US, you're only going to save about $15 on shipping, IF it goes to retail (which it probably will).
Thanks for the great overview of the pledge levels. I'm going the completionist route. I love Marvel, so I expect this will be my forever Zombicide game. I don't expect any future Zombicide game (pirates, ninjas, or whatever) being a better game for me. We'll see if that holds up once CMON announces their next Zombicide game. :-)
Did you stick with the completionist route by going with the devourer pledge even witb the crazy shipping? I'm on the fence myself and am taking my time before ordering in the PM to see if it's just fomo
So... I don't want Galactus, but I do want Silver Surfer... I'm wondering if I could sell Galactus for enough that it'd make sense to get the all-in devourer pledge. Hmm...
I found Zombicide to be decent fun but I was always fine with retail with most CMON coop games because I rarely cared about the characters to be interested in the exclusives. I wasn’t going to back Marvel Zombies at first because I didn’t want to be stuck with just playing as zombies… but being able to play as heroes and putting so many of my favorite characters into the exclusives and really packing the game with so many of them eventually won me over to the all in. I don’t think I’ll ever play with every character but I’ll be happy that I can mix up the ones I want every time I want to play Zombicide. Also, the other person in my game group that normally gets the Zombicides decided to pass on this one because they are into Crisis Protocol so I had to pick up the torch. If he went all in I was going to be happy with just playing or borrowing his copy.
I was looking at only core box or as you said core and sentinels, but if the co-op box doesn't hit retail I will be screwed. I also saw the Ankh expansions were not that much cheaper on retail (and exclusives were very minor). Thanks for the video!
Aleks is doing a great work simplifying the whole campaign. It is obvious right now that CMON did a good campaign 28000 people voted that they wanted more plastic than gameplay and are willing to wait 2 years to get what they paid for now. I think this will be another crucial campaign that will set the whole boardgame industry further...get IP, add bunch of plastic and just as one campaign ends ride the FOMO and lunch another one. Thanks Aleks for being honest and on the ball on this one.
I have a bad issues with FOMO. It wrecked me hard with the Marvel Xmen united. This one has taken a lot of effort not to go all in. Just doing 1 expansion and the artist pack (plus both games). Edit: this video really helped me. I canceled the resistance mode and added 2 expansions. I'll buy the X-men stuff at retail.
Tight finances, back for $1 today and then try to make the money over the next couple months before Pledge Manage, even then Pledge Manager is open for atleast another month. Sell board/video games you never play, pick up a temporary part time job, etc. Thanks Alex! I love bonus 80ish characters, so I am definitely backing the base game + sentinels as a minimum.
Was there any images or examples of what the competitive mode is? Looks like it is just 24 teamwork cards of which you could print out along with the unique rules.
Hey Alex, can u tell me what size all the dice in the Zombicide games are? 12mm, 16mm or any other size? and do all released zombicides have the same sizes of dice or do they differ? Hope you can help me :P
I’m going with Hungry Pledge + Artist box. I really wanted Silver Surfer but not Galactus but oh well. Maybe someone will sell Silver Surfer at a crazy marked up price 💸
I backed the Resistance Pledge with the Clash of the Sinister Six expansion. I'm quite sure they will be another campaign since they're lots of characters we haven't seen, I'll get the rest of the expansions then
Thanks for the anti-FOMO, really helped me decide to lower my Devourer pledge to Undead. I'll probably end up adding the KSE add-ons like Sentinel Strike and Artist Box in PM then wait on the rest after retail.
If Kingdoms Forlorn wasn't around the corner, I probably would have opened my wallet for this. Looks like fun, but I'll have to see what it's retail later.
I agree with your thoughts... And am still going with a Devourer pledge + plastic tokens + one extra set of dice... Why? Well, we've never played Zombicide BUT if finding out about CDMD we'll after the KS was over and paying through the nose for the R'lyeh Rising figure has taught me anything it's that of we hate the game I most likely will get my money back.
Sticking with $1 for now and will decide in PM. I know it is bad to go for the $240 pack but tempting just so I don't have to worry about X-Men being cancelled for retail. Though I doubt that would happen.
And here I am, with my 1$ pledge debating "do I event care about game?". I do love sculpts, I really like Marvel. But I don't crazy about the Zombie Heroes. I would like to play It one day, but it's much worse to decide what to choose when I care mostly about Heroes gameplay. I still wonder, if instead of Zombicide they would use DMD as a base system (with Thanos/Ultron etc. as Elder Ones), would It be a bigger hit? Very good video, hope I won't need it on the future. ;)
"...even though the fact that we both know Galactus is one of the worst ratios of gameplay to dollar ever out there, we're still just going to go ahead and say, you know what, we're going to let ourselves get this..." SPOT ON lol! A part of me wishes I wasn't that guy, but here I am instead clearing off the shelf space for something that won't arrive for another 2 years.
So if you get the zombies side, does each character card have instructions on how to play, each character as the main character or as the brute equivalent?
I was thinking recently that the All In here-and for probably most if not all big ass box games-only makes sense if you can take it as a tax deductible business expanse! 🎭
I've just been waiting til this whole thing would end so they can (hopefully) announce what their next KS will be. If it's Zombicide Evolution for Teburu I'm screwed. If it's "Army of the Dead: A Zombicide game" I'll laugh my butt off. If it's something new, fine, whatevs. I really hope it'll be an old IP sequel though, something like Arcadia Quest 3, Rum and Bones 3, Xenoshyft 3, etc.
It was on its way - CMON dropped the ball a few times, but later course corrected when it was necessary, but lost a few people on the way. As it stands, it is now the 3rd highest board game funded on KickStarter.
When you guys have played, what’s the max dice one person has rolled? Only thing I’m on the fence on is adding dice stuff this point! Took almost a year off Kickstarter. This and Tidal blades pulled me back.
This will be my first Zombicide game and my first CMON game. The way CMON piles on the meme characters (TV/film/pop culture references) in their campaigns is always a turn off for me. And I appreciate they are unable to do that with the Marvel license. I don’t read too many comics, but I also bought and downloaded the first Marvel Zombies collection on Comixology in the past few days. After getting through the first chunk of comics, it’s hard to not add Galactus and Fantastic Four, as they are core to the story and theme. I’m all-in on everything.
Edit: I ended up cancelling my pledge, post-campaign. There were a few things bothering me about the design, including the focus on playing as zombies, no items, and the design of the brutes. I also had Marvel United and did’t want another Marvel game. Also, I picked up a copy of the actual graphic novel and I hated it. It then made sense why the walkers, brutes, and runners were so weird - in the comic, only heroes are infected, not normal humans. But I’m now all-in for DCeased and I’m really happy about my decision. From what I can tell, all of my issues were addressed.
Hey Alex, great video! Regarding your remarks on the competitive mode, I want to mention that even if we don't know if it's going to be a good one, we have Marvel Crisis Protocol (MCP) out there that's already been enjoyed by a lot of skirmish gamers. And you can easily find the rules of MCP and the cards in PDF. Now, if you compare the price tags between Marvel Zombies (MZ) and MCP, it's a huge win for MZ. And I say that having made the maths this morning to know if this was worth it considering I have to pay 20% VAT in France. Based on that I still have a question for you and any member of this great community willing to share his or her opinion. Here it is: I know I'm getting the 430$ Hungry pledge, but I don't want to give up on the Silver Surfer that's included in the Galactus add-on (for which I don't care much otherwise). So what would be the smart move ? Get the 615$ Devourer pledge and sell Galactus or do you think I shouldn't get it and try to find the Silver Surfer on ebay or else afterwards? Thanks!
Thank You Alex for your insight. Ended up dropping my Hungry pledge for Undead + Sentinel add-on. If the X-men resistance core box doesn't come to retail, be ready to sell yours to me ;)
As a person who already owned a Zombicide game, and also went all in on Marvel United and MU X-Men, I’m really struggling to convince myself to back this game. But after watching your video, I feel like getting the undead pledge maybe worth it considering I will get all the extras already with the lowest pledge. 3 more hours to go what do I do?!?!
If you don't get any expansions but you do get the tile set, will you be able to play all of the scenarios that would of came with the expansions? I assume you might have to search for the additional rule books online in pdf format. Getting the core pledge for sure! I know i want the game someday and missing out on so many characters makes the retail version garbage. I might get the tiles if it means a lot more scenarios, also might get sinister 6 since i like those villains and the competitive gameplay adds a lot more content in the PM if i have the extra dough. Will get xman resistance at retail since I'm probably doing 1 wave shipping.
I'm absolutely not getting Galactus or the F4 boxes. I'm currently sitting at the base zombie pledge, and will likely add Hydra (for the extra zombie mob and boss). Everything else I'm waiting and watching for now. ... Also my basement flooded last fall and I have to pay for repairs so that has to come first. 😅
I went with the base game and got every expansion except the sinister 6 or artist boxes because I am interested in neither. I am still on the fence about fantastic 4. That said, everything I am interested in I am getting because I have been burned multiple times (not just united) by CMON not putting expansion content in retail, even when it was not KS exclusive. They do this very often. With CMON you can really only count on for sure that the core boxes will go to retail. So I am in for $310 plus shipping. I might end up getting a set of dice and maybe the plastic tokens (not sure on these because the ones I got for BP were bad), but that's it. So I will either end up at $310 plus shipping or $260 if I drop fantastic 4. Either way there is way more content than I will ever use and I am only interested in the zombie version (have KS BP for the hero play I want) so I will likely end up selling more than half the stretch minis and maybe some from the expansions. Will end up just keeping enough of my favorites for variety.
$240 pledge for me with Hydra + GotG expansions, so $330 total. I don't mind so much since I have the Undead or Alive coming this year that is going straight to eBay now. I don't need that much Zombicide since they withheld this game while running that campaign, which is pretty shady of them. It will be my last one from them for sure though.
In the end I've decided to put $10 in and try to sell my zombicide 2nd edition plus some other games to fund this and make room for it. I just love marvel and this seems like a version of zombicide I'd enjoy a lot more than 2nd edition. I do really enjoy 2nd edition though so it's a high bar
